Its not the 1st time weve rented a holiday home from them, and not the 1st time its been a disaster...although at least this last time we didnt have family and grandkids in tow.
This time we got into the house ok. But the oven was so dirty I couldnt use it, fridge was dirty, everything thick dust, tv broken, had to report this as soon as we got in,or get charged. We had gone to chill out and watch tv..so ended up 1 of the 3 nights without a tv. Owner kindly drove across Yorkshire to bring us a replacement and compensated us for not being able to use the oven..however if the property was checked and cleaned as we expected it to be, there would be no issue. We left a day early as the dust and muck made me poorly, unfortunately. Kettle. Microwave, utensils, toaster.. everything was manky, sticky dirty. The bathroom shower leaked, and smelt fusty.”
“Prompt and efficient booking. Great cottage in fantastic location. One of the best we have stayed in. Very high standard. Good experience, but it took a little time to get a response from Sykes Cottages when we had a question about our bookings. Would have preferred to speak to a person, our issue was finally dealt with and we were happy with the outcome.”

“We found Vicarage Cottage to be perfect - the accommodation was brilliant, lovely big, light and airy rooms and very clean. Everything was provided that we could have needed for our self catering holiday - pots, crockery etc and all good quality.
The garden was secure for our border collie and there were lovely local walks within a few minutes of leaving the cottage. Ideal location for visiting the truly beautiful beaches and countryside. Would highly recommend.”
“Ideally situated, well-furnished kitchen, modern bathroom & shower, all very comfortable. Plus a lovely front garden that we were able to enjoy fully thanks to the splendid weather. And the view on the Strait is first-class ! The owner has been very kind when I needed their help. I rented this cottage for the first time two years ago, came back with pleasure and will be back again ! Highly recommended.”
“Port Donnell cottage is a perfect place to enjoy the peace of Rockcliffe. The accommodation is spacious and tastefully decorated. There is everything you need in the kitchen and a good size table in the dining room for eating. We've been before and will go again. Our favourite thing is the shell beach where we spent many hours just watching and listening. We heard a cuckoo on our visit. We took our own fold up deck chairs rather than sit on the rocks this time. Although the garden is not totally secure it was fine for a black lab who doesn't wander. There was a deer in the garden some mornings.”
“Our late April stay was wonderful. The house is well appointed and well equipped and clean.The furnishings are well considered for for a family with dogs and the enclosed garden extremely helpfull. The location is peaceful with some gentle local walks in great scenery. The are pleantly of local attractions, waterfall walks, coffee shops etc and virtually everywhere we visited was dog friendly. I would happily recommend to friends and family.
If you have time a walk on Lunan or Montrose Bay and picking up a few Arbroath Smokies for breakfast on the way back is charming way of passing a day.”
