“A lovely stay, we were very lucky with the weather and managed to really make the most of our stay. Had some lovely dinners at great pubs they recommended. Kids loved looking after the chickens, feeding the pigs and a tour of the farm. Brilliant holiday”
“A super relaxing remote location with shared boundaries to 2 other properties, not entirely private but not up close and personal either. Plenty of parking. Great decor, plenty of open space. Odd things forgotten (eg oven gloves) but the owner Jayne will sort anything you're missing within a very short time. The hot tub is kept spotless and checked daily. Location wise you do need a vehicle but several nice eateries within 10miles (we liked the Dragon and the Nags Head) visit Powis Castle and Gregynog Hall if you like stunning grounds/gardens and Scones. Highly recommended for a quiet getaway and a 5* property owner.”
“We had a lovely week in this cottage, the place was clean and tidy with all the facilities we needed. The situation is great for local shops a few minutes walk across the main road and attractions accessible via the A149. The waterside is very close allowing me to launch my kayak from the free pontoon after a short trolley trundle down the street. Cycling on virtually traffic free local backroads was a daily pleasure. I would reccommend this property for active types or just for a week of relaxation.”
“Unfortunately myself and my partner could not made our time away to celebrate my 60th birthday due to a family emergency. My son and his family did go ahead and spend the time at the house. They had nothing but high praise for this property. Very clean, high standards in kitchen equipment and the whole house was amazing. They loved the garden area which the children had great fun. Bonus was the hot tub down to the robes, sliders that were provided. They had some lovely days out at a farm which the children enjoyed holding the animals.
Hoping to book it again do we can enjoy with them next time.”
“What a fantastic stay at Pennat Uchaf. Thank you for a wonderful stay. The home is lovely, clean with all amenities well thought out. We not only enjoyed the time in the house but the surroundings are truly breathtaking. We would highly recommend having a Tesco delivery to stock up. The owners are very attentive and responsive, prior to and during the stay, making the experience five star. Great location to travel to different areas within an hour I.e. beach, halfren Forest m, Elan Valley and Gigrin Farm. Thank you for a home away from home!”
“We had a lovely family stay at Top Lodge. There was plenty of space for the four of us, and the location was excellent for exploring the Lake District.
I can't comment too much on the holiday park itself. The restaurant area looked a little tired, and the main access to the lake seemed to be more suited to boats than swimming. However, we enjoyed the evening entertainment, and both of our girls had great time.
All of the hiking destinations we had planned were within a 30-minute drive, which made it a perfect base for our trip.
The lodge itself had everything we needed to prepare quick dinners and breakfasts. We loved that it was tucked away at the top of the holiday park, giving it a more secluded feel, and we really enjoyed spending time on the outdoor patio. We were lucky enough to visit during a heatwave, and the lodge stayed wonderfully cool and comfortable throughout our stay.
The lodge is loved and probably used often and some of the furniture is beginning to show signs of wear, so few updates in the future might be beneficial. However, what mattered most to us was that everything was spotlessly clean and well cared for, which made our stay comfortable and enjoyable.
We all agreed that we'd love to come back.
Special mention to the owner, whose communication was excellent from start to finish. The instructions were clear and easy to follow, and we were even offered an additional free night when no one had booked after us, which was a lovely and much-appreciated gesture.
Quick tip- as we didn't booked through holiday park, we had option to purchase a pass to use the pool at the reception area. Unfortunately they didn't have any slots available at our stay. Instead we went to Choice health centre, only 2mins drive away, paid £26 and had swimming pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi all for ourselves!”
“A lovely, comfortable and characterful cottage with great views, spacious master bedroom, comfy lounge, well-equipped kitchen, and a garden where you can catch sunshine into the evening. A perfect sized cottage for 2/3 people. Good for birdwatchers too - we woke to the sound of curlew and could also watch swallows and housemartins swooping around the local area. Anyone wanting to take walks from the door into the Dales countryside would enjoy this cottage.”
“Could not recommend Watch Tree Lodge highly enough. One of the best lodges I’ve ever stayed in. High quality interior and exterior fixtures and fittings including the best bed, pillows and linen I’ve experienced in a rental accommodation. Everything you could need is provided. Bonus points for having two fridges as when you’re staying for a week one small fridge just isn’t enough.
Steve and Jayne the owners were friendly and incredibly helpful and went above and beyond to offer assistance to me.
Very much looking forward to returning at some point”
“Great place for two people and everything was as described. You can tell the owner is a builder by trade as it is impeccably fitted out (although, given that the last week in May was so hot, we did not need to light the stove for the central heating). Bee Garth is at the top of the garden of Orchard House with a path created by the owners down to the railway station (for Whitby and villages en route) and the local pub (or on to Castleton village over the Esk). Sounds of owls by night and cuckoos by day were complemented by oystercatchers, curlews, lapwings and pink footed geese - the lack of wifi made sure this was a really relaxing break - it is easy to understand why people return here.”
“Lovely clean, modern lodge. Extra little touches like tea and coffee and washing up liquid was a lovely. Site was also immaculate and sp peaceful. Looking to book again later in the year.”
“We find booking through Sykes cottages an easy process. We recently stayed at The Granary in Bedford. We had 3 generations, we had such a warm welcome on arrival from the owners, the granary was well presented, very clean and had everything we needed and was extremely comfortable. We loved the very friendly dogs, Lottie and Narla and the beautiful surroundings. The wildlife and lake were a bonus, we had such a relaxing stay and loved the walks from the farm. We would so recommend this home from home accommodation. We loved our time there and would love to return.”
