“I found our accommodation on Sykes Cottages and booked it. Everything was easy to do. The App was easy to run and complete online payments. It made it easier to be the organiser of a break away for colleagues.”
“Warm and friendly welcome from cottage owner with good welcome pack. Lovely clean cottage with all the things you require. Very spacious property with lots of cupboard space in the bedroom. Lovely area with lots to see and do.”
“We had a great week at Little Bargate. What a beautiful, cosy, cottage, a pure gem and the garden was amazing. Walks straight from the door, plenty of local pubs that allow dogs and serve good food. Castleton is such a picturesque village with quaint shops. Thank you to the owner who was so helpful, such a lovely gentleman and thank you for letting us stay at Little Bargate, you should be so proud of this gem you have. We will definitely be back and will recommend your cottage to friends and family.”
“We have had three Sykes Cottages Holidays. Lots of choices. Easy to book. Good information given. Just had one disappointing accommodation, although the location was great.”
“Very comfortable and home from home holiday cottage, very welcoming on arrival.
Well placed for local amenities.
Thank you for the welcome gift very much appreciated.”
“Cute little place, and we were very happy. The location is unbeatable. There are lots of stairs about, and the bedroom itself is quite tight, but we enjoyed the comfy sofa in the living room on rainy days and evenings. Finding it was quite difficult and which parking spaces right around the cottage that are okay to park in is unclear (we got two separate notes on our windshield that we were in someone else’s spot despite no signage). Notably, the gutter to the left of the front door needs fixing, as there was very loud dripping water when it heavily rained - so I hope the property managers sort this out.”
“We stayed at Drifters last year and it was ideal for our needs so we booked again this year. However, on the day we were driving down to Cornwall, I had an email from John Bray’s to say the family bathroom and washer would be out if use for the duration of our stay. I could see this would cause major problems for us so tried to contact them, without success, despite trying to ring and email them. I felt their email was quite dismissive by saying “There are still 2 bathrooms available for use……We wish you a great holiday”
What they failed to realise was that the 2 other bathrooms were actually en suites, so INSIDE other guests’ bedrooms. In not having the family bathroom, the people in the other 2 bedrooms (without en suites) had to go into someone else’s bedroom to shower, etc. Also, we had a toddler with us who was used to going in a bath, not a shower. We also needed the washer for the toddler’s clothes, after days spent exploring or going to the beach. We ended going to Tesco to buy him extra clothes. We operated a rota system for the shower but mainly, it was down to me to get up early to vacate my bedroom in order to allow someone else to use my shower. Hardly a relaxing holiday.
Having given up trying to contact John Bray’s, I rang Sykes who looked into the problem for us and, although were unable to restore use of the washer or bathroom, they did offer compensation.
I am grateful for Sykes intervention on this issue but would hesitate before booking a property involving John Bray’s Cornish Holidays again as they did not seem concerned that we were not getting what we had selected and paid for.
One further comment on security and safety: there is no key lock system inside the front door, just a turnable locking knob which a child could easily undo. Our little one knew not to unlock it and go outside but it would be impossible to completely secure the exit, should a child decide to turn the knob and open the door.”
“For the second time we had a very nice stay in Manna Cottage. A lovely and cosy place and a very good starting point to visit beautiful Grassington/Darrowby.”
“Castle View Cottage was a really lovely property, it was very central to all the amenities and had plenty of room for us to enjoy. The terrace and orangery were great and the bedrooms very spacious. I would definitely recommend this property.”
“We have used Sykes Cottages now 4 times and found them to be very straight forward and reliable. We highly recommend them and intend to use them in the future. We look forward until then. Thank you”
“We have been to this house on numerous occasions. It is ideally situated just outside the centre of Newquay. Dog friendly. Equipped with everything you need. Our only negative is that whoever has painted to outside of the house hasn’t cleaned up after themselves. There was paint all over the plants and the garden furniture. Not a good look. Also I don’t know if we was the first people in the house for a while because nowhere had been dusted. You could write your name in it upstairs in the master bedroom. These negatives won’t put me off booking again it’s just needs highlighting.”
