Frustrating - my certificates expired 31st January, 2023. I submitted the renewal as soon as it was released to me on the 2nd January 2023 - and then had to chase it as it wasn't being assessed. The comment I received was that it takes 20 working days, if this is the case I believe you should be releasing the renewals 6 weeks prior to the recertification date. It feels as though you are forcing businesses to pay additional fees for the express service. For smaller SME's this is not always an affordable option.

Good Morning, thank you for taking the time to leave a review for us. Congratulations on becoming accredited! I am sorry to hear that you were frustrated with the process this year. Submitting your documents 30 days prior to your certificate expiry date usually gives us enough time to review your documentation before your current certificate expires, I will however pass your comments regarding opening up the questionnaire 6 weeks earlier to the relevant management team. We aim to get to all files as soon as we can and within the 20 working day service level stipulated on the standard package, the response time you receive does depend upon the volume of work in our queue and the response time you select based upon the package you choose. In addition to your accreditation you can take also advantage of some great member benefits, they can be found here - https://www.safecontractor.com/benefits/ Best Wishes, Vicky

Good afternoon, thank you for leaving a review. I am sorry to hear that you didn't receive a response in the expected timeframe. Having reviewed your account I can see that you have raised this with our Technical Support Team who requested a priority Audit for you. I Hope that this resolved the query for you, however if there is anything further that you need please do not hesitate to get in touch. Kind Regards Vicky

Hello, thank you for your review. Congratulations on becoming accredited. I am sorry to hear that you have not had a positive experience this time around and that you found the process to be lengthy and impersonal. I would very much like to arrange a call to discuss your experience. I will follow up with a direct email to the primary contact on your account. Kind Regards Vicky

Each year the questions become more convoluted, with many unanswerable questions requiring a call for confirmation, the usual response being oh just ignore that and click n/a? This year's process has taken 4 months of constant reminders that this, that and the other document was required without any explanation as to what was the issue. To top it all we now have to complete a CDM requirement despite 4 years of being informed we didn't need this, we don't but SC has put "precision engineering" into a construction category even though we do not have anything to do with it.

Good Afternoon, thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. I am sorry to hear that your experience has not been a positive one this time around. The questions asked are based upon the work categories that have been selected and are designed to meet SSIP requirements. I am sorry to hear that you had trouble this time around, I will certainly pass this feedback to our Audit team. I am also happy to arrange a call from one of our Auditors to run through the requirements to ensure that this is easier for you next time around. If this would be of help please let me know. Kind Regards Vicky

This has not been a happy experience for us we had quite a few emails back and forward to the team. We then were booked on a training session but the lady was ill but no further contact to rearrange. Finally Jonathan Howe contacted us to offer practical help which meant we could quickly move to accreditation status - Thank you Jonathan. Luke Washington also took time to try and help however this was more from a sales perspective however the contact was appreciated.

It should be made more clear that the turn around time for a renewal is a month between submitting and it being reviewed

Hi Callum, Thanks for your feedback regarding the reaccreditation time. I'm sorry to hear you feel that our messaging wasn't clear enough. Would you be able to give any further detail on how and when it would have been helpful to receive clarification on the timescales for our audit? The process remains unchanged from last years audit with regards to the turnaround, which is our standard lead time of 20 working days. Becoming reaccredited is in our mutual interest which is why prior to renewal we will contact your 30 days in advance of expiry in order to reengage your business with the process and make you aware of the necessary timeframes. Upon submitting your questionnaire you should receive a confirmation message, dependent on the package you're one, when to expect a response. It may also be worth mentioning that you can complete your H&S questionnaire all year round, and then submit 30 days before expiry. Again, I'm really sorry that on this occasion we fell short in the level of service expected and if you wouldn't mind providing us with a little more context I'll make sure your suggestions are escalated to the right team. Kind regards, Tom

The extra charges for next day responses suggest to me the accreditation is more focused on money making rather than improving safety.

We completed our accreditation with Tom Cattle as our admin, we felt the service provided and the length of time taken to respond, or review our amendments to the pre-audit check were unsatisfactory.

The safe contractor process in line with the Common Assessment Standards is assessed by personnel who are only looking directly at the standards and not taking into account the risk profile and number of employees of the assessed company. It was a massive task to ensure we have each required element which is costly for a small company. We have two other SSIP Certifications and will not be renewing this in the future.

Everyone I spoke with was friendly however having paid the money up front, the wait on each part of the process was unacceptable. We were told they were very short staffed and there was a backlog but we had to chase and chase the whole way through which was disappointing and time consuming.

Had completed the assessment then got assessor feedback asking for more information some of which were already in the assessment Then got an email asking for more rams just how many do you need, Also asked specifically for a method statement and then asked for the risk assessments, why not ask for rams??? What a waste of time which delays my customers accreditation and just gets us annoyed. Improve it

With the help of our external H&S consultant we applied for renewal. The whole process however took much too long. To speed up the process we paid an extra £ 132.00, only to receive another list of questions which in our view could have been communicated sooner. Renewing the certificate has become over-bureaucratic and expensive. We therefore shall not be renewing our membership in July 2023. Hans J J Rip

Our standard audit time taken from all documents being submitted is 4 weeks for an auditor to complete your h&s assessment. Our team endeavour to assess all questionnaires as quickly as possible and to provide as much assistance as possible. However if you would like to upgrade your package to have an express audit included or to include assistance from our team of expert IOSH and NEBOSH qualified auditors then this option is available to you also.

Poor The fact that different people review submissions is a huge problem as they each seem to have their own idea what is required so you have the scenario of sending all the things that the first assessor asks for and resubmit and then another assessor reviews that and moves the goal posts and asked for a different set of requirements. This is not acceptable. The first review should detail all the things required and once they have been submitted, this should be it. PLEASE do not advise me that we can pay for a dedicated assessor! It's not good enough that this has to be an additional cost. I don't think that you appreciate that organisations rely on their accreditation to conduct their business.

The process within Safe contractor means that you do have dedicated assessors. You are assign a technical support officer at the beginning of your accreditation journey each year. The technical supports officers role is to support you with the submission of your questionnaire and ensuring there are certain core documents in place ready for audit. Once the questionnaire is complete and the core documentation has been provided this is then sent to a dedicated qualified auditor to assess your documents in line with legislation and SSIP regulations. This may result in further requests following an in depth audit of your documentation. Thank you.

Takes too long to get reapproved. You need to start a month and a half before you expire. Then the new date needs to start from the old date or after and not before

Hi R Kinge Property Maintenance Ltd, Thank you for your feedback. We truly value the insights we receive from our customers, and in response to your feedback, we've made an improvement. Previously, you could submit the renewal questionnaire 30 days before your expiry date. Now, we've extended that window to 60 days before expiry, giving you an additional 30 days to complete the submission. We hope this change makes a positive difference as you prepare for next year! Best regards, SafeContractor

I was disappointed with what seems to be a money-making scheme, whereby you offer a fast track service to push through the accreditation review. We chose not to take this option but it seemed to take forever to eventually get our certification. if you stopped the fast track service and concentrated your assessors on dealing with people on a first-come / first-served basis then this would speed everybody's applications up, instead of making extra money on queue jumpers.

I was disappointed with the communication from the team and the timeline for our audit. It resulted in our accreditation lapsing.
