Very very slow. Although you can add documents throughout the year, you can't submit until a certain date, but then the checking takes so long that every year, the certificate is well out of date before the new one is approved and customers are chasing us every year for the updated document.

At SafeContractor we do operate a queue system owing to the volume of accounts we have to process. To counter this, we do offer a variety of packages dependant on the needs of our contractors. For example, those who are happy to wait don't need to upgrade, but for businesses where there is urgency the express package is more appropriate. They were very keen to sign me up lots of calls and once they got my money I got an initial couple of call to help me get started however after this I couldn’t get to speak with anybody to help me through the process of accrediting and emails we never acknowledged as received or replied to which left me hanging for weeks on end. They did provide templates etc to assist eventually but not 5 star service

The process needs to be quicker ! All you should be doing for established contractors who have been with Safe Contractor for many years is ask for all renewals, ie. Insurance, certificates if out of date, etc. this would save so much time. I and others in the trade feel that you are just trying to justify your ever-increasing price. Some of my colleagues have left Safe Contractor and have said no one ever asks for it so what is the point? We work for many blue chip large companies including Rolls Royce, Health Authorities, etc., and have only been asked once for the qualification.

The process itself is straightforward. Alcumus Personnel make it difficult. Not very personable and they do not take the time to discuss and understand the business (Business applying for accreditation/renewal).

The questionnaire itself is easy to understand and the auditors are incredibly friendly and helpful. The reason for the score is because the auditing process seems artificially elongated in order to try to extract more money from the client, which is really disappointing. The questionnaire is released so that it feels like you have to do everything instantly in order to stand even a chance at getting the accreditation on time, which completely spoils the whole experience. Overall, better than Constructionline, as I cannot fault the interface or your excellent staff. But the waiting process is ridiculous.

In regards to the membership date and accreditation date, you will keep the same membership date as the date you joined safecontractor, this then ensures your 12 month membership and you will then gain an accreditation date from the day you pass accreditation for a full 12 months. Our renewal was due on the 18 March. I submitted the H&S Questionnaire on 20 Feb which I thought was in plenty of time (Alcumus stipulate up to 20 days and it was exactly 20 days before renewal was due). Our application wasn't looked at until after the 18 Mar and then Alcumus asked for a statement re Construction Phase H&S Plan on headed paper. My answer to the question was clear and I do not understand why the same information can only be accepted on headed paper. In any case I submitted a statement on headed paper last year so I think it was obvious the situation hasn't changed. I feel like Alcumus look for ways to delay the accreditation so that a customer will pay for the fast track which is unreasonable, (if accreditation can be achieved sooner that 20 days then it should be anyway, a customer shouldn't have to pay more0).

The process of completing the Accreditation was good and also the way that I was kept informed was very efficient. I am now progressing to complete Part 2. However, having visited the online site on several occasions I don't understand why the Health and Safety section, which is shown as Part 1, is still showing only 43% completed when you have informed me it has been completed and I have a certificate to confirm that.

In terms of what you can see on your portal, as soon as you achieve your accreditation with us your questionnaire re-opens for your renewal for next year. The reason for this is so you are able to go into your questionnaire throughout the whole year and update your documents ready for the submission 30 days before your current accreditation date.
