Went through the whole process, supplying photos, documents etc. the car was sold in auction and then…. Nothing. The dealer who purchased the car via auction never contacted me and all communication with Motorway was responded with a standard template - the same one over and over again “Thank you for letting me know. Your buyer should be in touch within 48 working hours” Again and again. Very poor, service using scripts and templates so have decided to sell privately.

Hi, Thanks for your review, we're sorry to hear you've had a negative experience. Usually we expect buyers to make initial contact within 2 working days from the point your documents have been approved. We then expect the collection to be arranged and completed shortly thereafter. Whilst we appreciate that on occasions delays can happen for reasons beyond our control, this is absolutely not how we want to be represented and we apologise for any inconvenience caused to you as a result. We can see that you have since been speaking with a member of our Escalations Team and have confirmed that you are now in contact with the buyer. However, If you experience any further delay then please do not hesitate to reach out to us directly. Kind regards, Sam Sales Support Specialist

I sold my BMW X5 on Motorway.co.uk. The day the car was auctioned the winning dealer somehow managed to take out finance on my car without me even accepting the deal. It was a BMW dealer who I was going to purchase my next car from who advised me that there was finance on my car which was a surprise to me as I have never financed the car. The finance company was also surprised but we managed to figure out who had financed the car after I had to give them all the details about where I had advertised the car and who the winning dealer was on Motorway.co.uk On the day of collection the dealer turned up with a friend, straight away feeling up the car and as soon as I walked out to meet them they started with accuses of respray here and there despite the car being in almost perfect condition. The car had never been resprayed and had full service history from BMW Park Lane. I had been totally honest with the condition of an 8 year old car. The dealer then started moaning about how I got him onto a train all the way down from Bury and the car was advertised a gold standard but at best it's a bronze. That comment really annoyed me for which I nearly did not sell at all to him. I dropped the price by £649 which was a big mistake but this was due to the pressure from both people. Even then they wanted another £1000 off. I ended talks and walked inside telling them that this was never going to happen. They drove from behind the car to the front and stopped, they got off and came and said we will accept the price I had mistakenly agreed to. The process from there was straight forward as money was paid into my account, paperwork given. I had created my own buyer/seller receipt which we both signed, dated and timed. Although I still got better than the book value I still feel I let the car go at least £500 cheaper than I should have. This was defiantly a lesson well learned for me. If you do sell on Motorway.co.uk then make sure no matter what pathetic accuses the trader/dealer makes do not lower the price. if they walk away let them as they will most likely come back.

Hi Usman, Thanks for your review. We’re sorry you were unhappy with your experience. In some cases a dealer may take a stocking loan against the vehicle they intend to purchase as this speeds up the buying process. They are able to cancel this loan if the sale does not go ahead as planned. Whilst we do of course appreciate that you submitted all of the required photos that were requested by our sales team, there can be often be other issues, either known to you as the seller or otherwise, that may not be easily distinguishable in the photos alone. This is why it's common practice for all buyers to request and carry out a thorough inspection at the point of collection. Buyers are expected as part of our process to supply photos in evidence of any reduction, we use these photos to assess whether or not reductions are fair, with a view to regulating buyer behaviour on our platform. In this instance the buyer has failed to provide the photos we requested so we have referred this matter to our Dealership Management team and will reiterate our expectations around conduct and producing evidence for any reductions in no uncertain terms. Please rest assured that where dealers have been found to have acted improperly in the past, Motorway have always been very quick to take any and all necessary actions, including the issuing of lifetime bans, in order to ensure a much better standard of service in the future. You’re never obligated to accept a lower price of course, as it is a voluntary transaction for all parties throughout, but the vehicle must be as described in order to achieve the agreed price. Our Sales Support team is always on hand to assist if you experience any issue with your sale, but it seems we were not made aware of any issues at the time of collection so were unable to assist. We're sorry your experience with Motorway was not more in line with our usual high standards of customer satisfaction, but ultimately we're happy that you managed to sell your car and wish you all the best going forward. Best regards Arzumand Sales Support Team
AVIOD AT ALL COSTS We tried to sell our company van (5 years old and 80,000 miles on the clock). After the ordeal of listing and proving all the information, our van was then listed with Partial Service History, even though the van is on variable servicing and tells you when it needs a service, and we provided detailed service history from the maim dealer. The winning dealer then messed us around and came down to collect at very short notice for us. The dealer was a total shark and immediately started to try an pull the van apart, ran a diagnostic check that showed up a number of historical faults that were cleared and never came back. Boasted about how they had travelled to Manchester that day and had "walked away " from a much better version of our van. He also had the usual dealer stunt of having another person check the bodywork whilst trying to distract myself. Drove the van less than 500 yards and claimed that the gearbox, driveshafts and clutch were knickered. Reported the dealer to Motorway who then claimed they had to hear the dealers side of the story. Needless to say what came back was a pack of lies including claiming that the EML light was on, the van had an Add Blue fault (no it does not) and a gear box fault. The icing on the cake was that they suspect that there was frontal collision damage!! An HPI report would prove this is not the case!!!! We have mileage records for every single mile our van has been driven and can refute all these claims, but no MOTORWAY takes the side of the car dealer and wants you to provide evidence at your cost that the van does not in fact have the "claimed" faults the car dealer claims its has. AVIOD AT ALL COSTS Use Autotrader of another method to sell you car/van

Hi Anthony, Thanks for your review. We’re sorry you were unhappy with your experience. We’re looking into this and will respond shortly. If you would like to provide any additional feedback in the meantime, please contact reviews@motorway.co.uk. Kind regards, Gem Sales Support Specialist
Hi Anthony, Thank you for your review, we’re sorry that you were unhappy with your experience at the point of inspection. Unfortunately, if the buyer identifies any issues which were not listed on your selling profile, they may look to cancel the sale or adjust their offer to take this into account, as your offer is based on the accuracy of the information provided and advertised on your profile. In this instance, due to the additional issues, the buyer decided he did not wish to renegotiate and withdrew from the sale. In this instance, the buyer has identified that your vehicle had 12 fault codes which were detected on a diagnostic machine, there was a major gearbox issue which caused the gearbox not to go into third gear and the near side headlight misaligned which made the buyer suspect it was in a collision. We were not made aware of these issues prior to listing your vehicle. In terms of the re-list you requested, it would be standard practice for us to request that the seller gets any mechanical or internal issue to be looked at by a trained professional. Dealerships invest time and money inspecting vehicles for purchase, and face loss of funds on withdrawal, so we do need to take feedback about vehicle faults seriously. Once an acceptable invoice or report has been obtained, we will then re-list the car into another daily sale. This would be needed to ensure that the condition of the car is fully noted and the correct offers are made by the buyers. You’re never obligated to accept a lower price of course, as it is a voluntary transaction for all parties throughout, but the vehicle must be as described in order to achieve the agreed price. We're sorry your experience with Motorway was not more in line with our usual high standards of customer satisfaction, and we wish you all the best going forward. Warm regards Gem Sales Support Specialist
After going through the whole process we were then told that they only purchased vehicles bought from dealers. What a load of nonsense after several hours of mucking around. Total shambles! Be careful not to waste your time with these clowns.

Hi Robin, Thanks for taking the time to provide us with your feedback, we are very sorry to hear that you had a negative experience. We will be more than happy to look into this for you to determine how your specific valuation was handled, but unfortunately we’re unable to locate your vehicle profile using the limited information here alone. Having said that, we do provide the following information on our website; If ownership of your vehicle was transferred to you from a family member and you have been the registered keeper for less than six months, we require either the proof of purchase or copies of both the previous and new V5C documents, showing the same family name or home address. If you are selling a vehicle within six months of buying it, we ask for proof of purchase from a dealership, as this is a short period of vehicle ownership and might suggest that the vehicle is in some way faulty. Dealerships are held to higher legal standards, with a greater right to return, which means that vehicles bought through them represent a lower overall risk. Whereas, privately purchased or auction-bought vehicles lack this purchase security - and, unfortunately, this means our buyers will not purchase them within six months of ownership. If you would like us to look into this for you then please send an email along with your vehicle registration to reviews@motorway.co.uk. Kind regards, Sam Sales Support Specialist
first quote from motorway£ 10500 second quote when car put for sale £9500 actual quote from the dealer £8300 . Which quote is correct is motorway totally unrealistic to lure you in or is the dealer taking the mickey. Total waste of time

Hi Stephen, Thanks for taking the time to review our service, we are very sorry if you were disappointed with your valuation or with the offers you received. Our estimates are based on industry guide prices, live market data, and our previous sales history and they are valid for 7 days. After receiving your initial valuation online you are invited to speak with a member of the sales team to discuss any specific details regarding the history, specification, and condition of your car. Once the condition of your car had been discussed in more detail your estimated selling price is calculated. Naturally any issues discussed on this qualifying call such as stone chips, dents, scratches, or any other mechanical issues will need to be taken into account which is why your estimated selling price may differ from the initial valuation. This is done to ensure that any prospective buyers are fully aware of the condition of your car before bidding in the daily sale. This also allows for highly accurate price analysis at scale, so in most cases offers come out on or around this estimated selling price price as an accurate representation of the vehicle value. However, this is absolutely not a cap on what you can achieve. We operate a blind bidding system, so buyers can't see what other buyers have offered, and although we cannot guarantee the same level of interest for every vehicle sold through our platform, where competition is high, a car may exceed the estimate by any margin. If you would like us to look into how your specific sale was handled then please send and email to reviews@motorway.co.uk and include your vehicle registration so we can locate your vehicle profile. Kind regards, Sam Sales Support Specialist
Looking at the reviews on here I wont be selling my car the motorway way as it says on your stupid irritating adverts on the radio, i will be selling my car privately as I always have done on autotrader.

I tried to use Motorway to sell my VW Golf but terrible customer service made me go with Autotrader. Having following all their instructions, taken accurate photos the Motorway agent then reduced the listing price by 15% for no reason. In the end I got two independent valuations done and then listed with AT, achieving 23% more than Motorways offer. My advice, do your homework and settle with a company you're comfortable with. Motorway didn't make me feel valued or interested in selling my car and as soon as you ask more questions, quick to move the goal posts.

Hi Bella, Thanks for your review. I’m sorry that you were unhappy with our valuation process. I'd like to look into this further for you but based on the details you have provided we are unable to locate your profile. Please send us a unique identifier such as the vehicle registration, phone number, or email address you used to submit your valuation to reviews@motorway.co.uk and we will gladly look into this in more detail. For now, I will address the issues you have raised here. When you call into our sales team, we build an in-depth profile of your car which takes into account the condition, history, and specification of your vehicle using photos and details that you provide. This can include any negative factors that may affect the value of the car and what dealers may bid. This is what helps to take your generic valuation based on industry guide prices, live market data, and our previous sales history, to a bespoke valuation which takes into account the specificities of your vehicle. Your sales agent would have explained we would be coming to a final price through this process, but I apologise if you felt this wasn't clear enough. This is not done to reduce your price, but to ensure that all details have been taken into account, and your valuation is an accurate reflection of what buyers are likely to pay. It is not a cap on what you can receive, however, and where competition is high bids may exceed estimates. We always ensure that you're happy to proceed at the price we have set, which is a highly accurate data-driven estimate taking into account the specificities of your vehicle. For this reason, we will not list the car at a price above its value. This is a voluntary process for all parties throughout, so you’re never obligated to accept a lower offer or sell at any point. We wouldn’t obligate you to sell at a price you weren’t happy with, inasmuch as we wouldn’t force a buyer to purchase a vehicle they weren’t happy with. I’m sorry you weren’t happy with your final valuation but we are glad you ultimately sold the car and wish you all the best moving forward. Best regards, Dominic Sales Support Team
READ THIS BEFORE USING MOTORWAY Four Weeks ago I listed my car on MOTORWAY; it sold for £16,567 to SASCRON LTD who viewed the car and agreed to pay the SOLD PRICE. Nearly three weeks after ignoring my phone calls and emails SASCRON LTD negated on the deal. I bitterly complained to MOTORWAY who said they could not force the purchase to go through but would relist the car. Next day I received an email from MOTORWAY stating that the car had been sold for £16,116. Before accepting I called MOTORWAY to ask who the bidder was and they said SASCRON LTD. I obviously declined their bid. MOTORWAY then advised me to accept the second highest offer which was £16,111 from THE WRIGHT CAR COMPANY (AKA WRIGHT BROS LTD) which I did. 6 days later without even contacting me, they decided not to purchase the car. I've had to insure and store the car for four weeks whilst two independent dealers have decided not to proceed with the bids that they submitted to MOTORWAY. The WRIGHT CAR COMPANY called me this afternoon to state that MOTORWAY had deleted their bid from their system and that was why they hadn't contacted me. This is disputed by MOTORWAY who said the bid was still valid. So if you sell your car via MOTORWAY be prepared, as the process is not as slick or as quick as the advertising suggests. In fact knowing what I know now, I wish I had accepted the original offer from Cazoo.

Hi Philip, Thanks for your review, we are very sorry to hear that you have now experienced multiple issues whilst attempting to sell your car through our platform. We understand that the initial sale fell through due to the dealerships perceived issues with a letter of authority to sell the car, and payment not going to the registered keepers account. We appreciate however that the timescale for this was unacceptable, and as a result, once we had ironed out any issues with these factors, we agreed to re-list the car. Unfortunately Sascrons bids are made by several members of staff, and a staff member unaware of the previous sale, which had been under the purview of a colleague, did place another bid on the vehicle which was lower due to a change in the baseline valuation over that period. Once made aware of this, unfortunately it appears a member of the Motorway team incorrectly confirmed another existing bid with you which later turned out to be invalid. We recognise that this was a poor experience and have followed up with our team member. All existing bids selected as an alternative post-sale must be reconfirmed with a buyer to ensure they remain valid, as having lost the auction, that buyer may have already sourced alternative stock. I'm pleased to see however that we have since rectified the issue, and re-sold to an alternative dealer at the same price offered by the Wright Car Company, and that you have submitted documents to us this morning to proceed with the sale. We will retain oversight of this sale to completion to ensure everything goes smoothly. If you need anything further during your sale, please reach out to our Sales Support Team on 020 3988 3388 or salessupport@motorway.co.uk. Best regards, James Escalations Team Leader
Firstly, I had to send in photos 3 times. I got a quote on the first call. On the second call I could tell I was going to be given the run around by the amount of 'oohhs and aahhs and surprise, surprise the quote fell by £800. The final offer fell by £2000. Stay away

Hi Paul, Thanks for your review. Sorry that you were unhappy with your experience. Regarding any additional photos that we requested from you, this is because Motorway markets your car to UK dealerships, and presents a professional, standardised profile to maximise the offers you are likely to receive, and to secure a firm offer ahead of inspection. These include explicitly specified photo angles to ensure buyers can make accurate remote appraisals and offers, with any issues then taken into consideration prior to sale. Our app uses superimposed outlines to help you achieve these exact photos the first time, rather than taking and submitting photos that then need to be re-taken. Unfortunately some of the photos you had initially submitted were not suitable which is why we requested some retakes. Regarding your estimated selling price vs the final offer you received. Our estimates are based on industry guide prices, live market data, and our previous sales history, as well as specific details our sales team discuss with you regarding the history, specification and condition of your car. Once the condition of your car has been discussed in more detail your estimated selling price is calculated. Naturally, any issues mentioned on this call such as stone chips, dents, scratches, or any other mechanical issues will need to be taken into account which is why your estimated selling price may differ from the initial valuation. This is done so to ensure that any prospective buyers are fully aware of the condition of your car before bidding in the daily sale. This allows for highly accurate price analysis at scale, so in most cases offers come out on or around the reserve price as an accurate representation of the vehicle value. This is absolutely not a cap on what you can achieve. We operate a blind bidding system, so buyers can't see what other buyers have offered, and although not guaranteed, where competition is high a car may exceed the estimate by any margin. Unfortunately in this instance, there was limited interest generated for your car from our network of buyers, which is why your car only received 2 bids during the daily sale. We are sorry that this was not the outcome that you were looking for and if you would like to discuss this in more detail or provide further information then please contact us via email at reviews@motorway.co.uk. Best regards, Sam Sales Support Team
Feels like a scam. Sent loads of photos then buyer found a stone chip and deal was off. Now being re-listed for what will be a lesser amount. Constantly chasing for updates after deal fell through. Cancelled my insurance, tax and warranty on the back of the deal. Now left in the lurch. Never do it again!

Hi Howard, Thanks for your review. Sorry if you were unhappy with your experience. We have had a look into this for you and can confirm that the reason your original sale was cancelled was due to a breakdown in communication between the buyer and the assigned third party collections company. We will be following this up internally and will be keeping an eye on future purchases related to both parties to ensure that similar issues can be avoided in the future. However, I am glad to see that since posting this review we have been able to successfully relist your vehicle in a further sale and that you have now been able to accept a new offer equal in value to the previously cancelled offer. Nevertheless, we would like to apologise for any frustrations caused as this is not the usual experience we expect for our customers. If you experience any further issues then please contact us directly via email at reviews@motorway.co.uk otherwise, we wish you all the best going forward. Best regards, Sam Sales Support Team

Hello, Thanks for your review. You are welcome to sell your car in any way you like, and where any customer would like more money for their car than we are offering, we advise exploring alternative avenues. If these don't work out, anyone is of course free to try us again later. Motorway is set up for people who want a fast, hassle-free way of selling their car. They can do this from their own home, secure an offer, and have the vehicle collected from their doorstep. Although this isn't the method everyone would prefer to use, for many people it saves time, avoids tyre kicking, and allows them to secure a great price for their car. We wish you all the best in your future endeavours. Best regards, James Sales Support Team Senior
motorway the service is very easy to… motorway the service is very easy to use and i was very happy with the price quoted but the buyer Marshall Volvo Grantham wanted to collect the car from your home address and then provide you with a purchase invoice so you have a record of the transaction taking place. It will then be delivered to one of their branches by a fully insured driver. You will receive payment within 24 hours. give my 32k van to someone on the on the strength of a piece of paper saying we will pay you in 24 hours. not for me.

Be aware of the salami slicing tactics. They sweeten the deal with good initial offers and clever wording. Then you get stuff like, oh we are sorry this is the best offer we have had, "the market is saturated for this make and model, the offer is only valid until tonight and some nonesense about budgets". When the same sentence is stressed exactly 5x in short call you know what time it is. Have to hand it to them, great way to make some money. This is NaaS (Negotiation As A Service). For that they receive 5 stars for selling the car 1.

I think I got a fair price and the process went smoothly, except for the drop-off. It turned out that was at 'Aston Barclay' (who I had never heard of), but no-one at the office told me that when they gave me directions and post code, so I spent a lot of time looking for 'Car Buying Group' or 'Motorway' of which there was no mention anywhere! Even when I eventually tried Aston Barclay as a last resort I went into the auction area because there was no signage saying differently. very frustrating and unnecessary: It would be a simple thing to provide more clarity.

Hi Chris, Thanks for this feedback regarding confusion about the company name and signage at Aston Barclay. Aston Barclay do actually own The Car Buying Group who bought your car, but based on your feedback, this does sound like it is unclear at the Aston Barclay site! We have passed your feedback on to the right people regarding signage, and hopefully there will be a fix at some point and it will be clearer for everyone in the future. Thanks, Alex, Director PS. We offer price comparison at Motorway (rather than buy cars ourselves). We'll see what we can do to make this clearer in places :)
The whole process from start to finish was so easy. The website works brilliantly and was easy to read. The prices given we not only competitive (clearly beating the most well known website !!!). The prices also showed how long to get the money and any costs. Then the process with my chosen company was easy and I had the money, with no charge, before they left with my car.

Hi there. I'm sorry you were disappointed with the valuation you saw on Motorway. For the majority of cars we are able to provide very competitive valuations from multiple buyers. If your car is very new, very old, rare or unusual, it's possible we weren't able to provide a good set of valuations; and you may have seen a very low valuation from one of our car recycling partners. We are working to resolve this issue and also working to bring more car buyers to the platform all the time. I hope you will try us again in the future and have a better experience. Lauren (Motorway Customer Support)
I have found the whole process trying to sell via the Motorway traumatic! Firstly hey overpriced my car to advertise with them, then when it didn’t sell, asked me to reduce it. Then I accepted an extremely low offer to sell fast as I had put a deposit on another vehicle. The dealer who came was really late and I felt uncomfortable. Once I said I wouldn’t reduce it any further (he already had all the details of the vehicle and its mileage etc) I didn’t want to sell to him. He also pointed out that there was no spare wheel and the models mainly don’t come with one (it has an emergency repair kit). I found the whole experience with Motorway awful. Overpriced my car valuation in the first place and the dealer was less than professional. I have now sold my car - not through the Motirway, never again, I have part exchanged it with a reputable dealer for another vehicle. What a waste of time with them!

Hi there, Many thanks for your review, we're sorry to hear you were unhappy with your experience. In the vast majority of cases, offers will come out on or above the estimated selling price. Unfortunately, sometimes vehicles simply do not generate the level of interest required to reach this price during the daily sale, meaning your offer doesn’t benefit from competition between buyers which would usually drive it up. This can be for a number of reasons, including the current popularity of the make and model of the vehicle, or recent high volumes of a particular model in the market at the time of sale. Unfortunately, your vehicle generated limited interest from our network of buyers during the sale and only received 2 bids which were below your agreed reserve price. Unfortunately, if any issues are identified at the point of collection that were not listed on the profile then the buyer is within their rights to adjust their offer to take this into account. This is because your offer is based on the accuracy of the information provided and advertised on your profile. Whilst we do of course appreciate that you will have submitted all of the required photos requested by our sales team, there can often be other issues, either known to you as the seller or otherwise, that may not be easily distinguishable in the photos alone. This is why it's common practice for all buyers to request and carry out a thorough inspection at the point of collection. This is also why after submitting these photos you are asked if there are any additional issues that as a seller you are aware of that have not shown up in the photos you've already submitted. However, we are sorry to hear that the buyer may have tried to reduce based on the absence of a spare wheel, buyers should be familiar with a vehicle's specifications prior to collection in order to have realistic expectations during appraisal. We're sorry your experience with Motorway was not more in line with our usual high standards of customer satisfaction, but we’re pleased to hear you have now sold the vehicle via another means, and we wish you all the best going forward. Kind regards, Cam Motorway Escalations Team
Great communication. Everything went exactly as described by Motorway. The dealer was polite, friendly and professional. I got the agreed price without question from the dealer. Made sure all minor damage was declared and photographed which the dealer was aware of and expecting when he reviewed the car in person. Got £1500 more than We Buy Any Car offered. Very happy.
