I purchased a Premier Slate Stone Ultra-Slim Rectangular Shower Tray (1400 x 800, White) from Modern Living Direct, and it has been an absolute nightmare. The tray was clearly faulty, causing flooding across my bathroom floor due to a slope defect. Despite multiple professional assessments confirming correct installation, the company repeatedly refused to take responsibility. I provided video evidence and had two independent builders verify the issue. Their team instead chose to deflect blame and offer a token "goodwill" replacement — which I declined, as I’ve lost all trust in the product and the manufacturer. Since April, I’ve sent multiple emails and formal complaints. The responses I received were dismissive and unhelpful. I formally requested a full refund due to the product fault and the additional costs for damage and reinstallation, but this has been completely ignored. It is now July, and Modern Living Direct has stopped responding altogether. I’ve been forced to escalate the matter to the Ombudsman — wasting more of my time, energy and money. Save yourself the stress — avoid this company at all costs. They do not stand by their products, and their customer service is appalling. In response to Modern Living's reply on my Trust Pilot account - the customer service does not mirror what you are now saying, for example, I sent in a video of the defect with the professionals describing the problem. Your customer service team then said that the issue was the way we had installed the showerhead, when I sent a photo of the fact our showerhead is adjustable and can face any direction, you stopped replying. I have spoken to Citizens Advice today, who have advised court action. You will receive a letter via recorded delivery to your Bradford address in the next few weeks. Whilst a replacement was offered, this is not the issue - the issue is the consequential losses, which is what I have been advised to claim for. It would have been much more helpful for your team to communicate effectively rather than not reply. Modern Living, I expect this honest review to be shown on your site. I have taken a screenshot. If it is not displayed, this will form part of the evidence pack for court. Tried to upload the original video of the fault but I receive an error message saying it wouldn't upload.

Hi Hannah, We’re sorry to hear that you're still unhappy, and we’d like to clarify our position once more. The shower tray was installed and sealed without being tested for drainage first, despite this being clearly stated as a required step in the installation manual. Once a tray is sealed in, it’s no longer possible to assess the product in isolation or determine whether drainage issues are due to the tray, subfloor, or installation. The individuals you refer to as “independent professionals” - your installer and a neighbour - are not impartial, and their assessments cannot override the manufacturer’s installation requirements. The photos and videos you submitted did not demonstrate any clear manufacturing defect. In fact, trays of this type are precision-moulded, and visible slope faults are incredibly rare when handled and installed correctly. While we initially queried the positioning of the shower head based on early manufacturer input, this was never given as a final explanation, and we continued to respond after you provided further details. To suggest we “stopped replying altogether” is simply not accurate. We offered a goodwill replacement despite the tray being installed incorrectly - a gesture beyond our obligations. This was declined, and instead you requested compensation for remedial work and damage. To be clear: where installation guidance has not been followed, such claims would be a matter for the installer’s liability, not ours. Lastly, your reference to “screenshot evidence” regarding review display is misplaced. Platforms such as Trustpilot operate independently - we do not control which reviews are shown. We regret that this matter couldn’t be resolved amicably, but we have acted reasonably and fairly throughout. Should the matter proceed formally, we’ll respond through the appropriate channels.

I still havent received my order a month later. That is why I cant give a good review. No one has been in touch with me to offer an explanation.

I ordered two sinks. The photo on the internet is different to the items suplied. I am nw battling to get them returned. You expect me to pay for postage to retuern these when its not my fault. The item is ' Not as pictured ' My client refused to have them as they wanted the ones that were shown on your website!

Item arrived in a damaged box. When it came to fitting the item it became clear that product was not unsuitable. Contacted customer service and they refused a refund when it was slightly outside 14 days. I wouldn’t have known it was unsuitable until the point of the build we got to. Beware of their short refund period and don’t get caught out as there is zero flexibility which isnt helpful when you are doing a kitchen or bathroom. The bigger companies are more helpful in my experience as they have longer return periods and take items back they can resell.

Ordered items on 20th April and apart from confirmation of my order I heard nothing from them. Website when ordering said 2-3 days delivery on both items. Having heard nothing from them by 29th April I cancelled the order. Poor service and I wonder if they actually had stock at all. Wouldn't use again. Same review left on Trustpilot

I purchased a bathroom unit from you and inside the cupboard there was a plastic cap missing despite sending you emails and even a picture of the missing cap you still haven't been in touch this is the first time i have ever shopped with your company and i am not impressed.

I never recieved an order confirmation email ( i have requsted this 4 times via email). The order was chased multiple times for confirmation of delivery. The order took three weeks to be delivered and with no communication at all.

Bad experience, incompetent customer service. I explained my problem (very serious because they forged my signature and left the pallet outside the door without me being at home). The first time I spoke to an operator he tried to understand the problem but at the stroke of 5pm he closed the chat. I tried again the next day but they never responded. I do not recommend this shop

Despite listing my item as in stock, it failed to arrive. I chased the order and found out it was delayed by a number of weeks. I asked for a refund of my delivery fee but heard nothing. I chased this up and was told that the item was now delayed by a further 3 weeks, past my project deadline. I had received no proactive communication at any point about any delays. I have asked for a refund and have had no reply and no refund. Really shocked by the service and cannot reccomend.

Failed to deliver despite a delivery date. When I called twice to chase was simply told it’s going to be a week late. Has put the project behind. Customer service very poor no attempt to even rectify the issue.

I’m not happy as I paid £19 for next day delivery and they didn’t and haven’t delivered my item. I’m extremely distressed as I have workers here with no appliance

I was sent the wrong filter. Arranging collection and refund is very problematic. Despite multiple calls, emails and promises I am still waiting for the wrong item to be collected and refunded.

Hi Pam, The replacement filter mentioned in the product description was sent to you, as the originally listed one is no longer available—a detail that you might have overlooked. However we do apologise for the delay in getting it collected. We booked the collection and didn't spot that it had failed (due to no fault of yours) and have not re-actioned it yet - despite your email. We will get that rebooked.

Hi, its on the way to the 2 man delivery team today who will book in the delivery and even carry it in for you. I'm sorry you felt the need to leave the review rather than query directly with us. We us a 2 man service for all our heavy baths and shower trays, although it can add an extra few days to the delivery - it's still not even a week since you ordered.
