“I’ve used Meg Rivers a lot and like the cake products and subscriptions. This cake was a Father’s Day gift for my 95 year old father. Sadly it was not enjoyed by him or my mother. They found it too crumbly, too fruit heavy and consequently struggled to cut it and eat it. Sadly, it’s not been eaten.”

Morning Steve, Thanks for the review and I'm so glad you enjoyed the cherry cake. Our Rich English Fruit is densely packed with fruits and nuts and does require a serrated knife and sawing action cutting slices (like a loaf of bread) to keep it at it's best. With best wishes, Jess

“The tin arrived promptly and the presentation made it a lovely gift - the recipient was delighted. However, I need to flag a quality issue: the Lavender and Honey shortbread I sampled was soft. Not crumbly in the way fresh shortbread should be - soft, as though moisture had worked its way in. Stale, in other words. For almost £30 (incl delivery), the expectation is that every biscuit in the tin is at its best. The recipient hadn't tried shortbread before, so she didn't notice - but I did, and it was a disappointing experience for what is supposed to be a premium product. Fast dispatch, beautiful tin. The shortbread itself needs to match the price point.”

“The cake tasted good but it was so much smaller than I expected, the cake topper would not fit on the top and it didn’t feed all the guests, it was a very small wedding , overall disappointed for the price . Also the delivery driver left the cake on the doorstep opposite to the instructions on the box .”

“Good cake, very bad website ordering experience. The cake itself was delicious, so said my daughter to whom it was sent for an Easter treat. However, the website suggested it could be delivered on Easter Saturday. When I went to place the order (on Thursday evening before Easter), I found to my shock that somehow the order was completed with payment taken before I thought the process was complete, and especially before I had a chance to indicate or explore when delivery might take place, or state where the delivery should go to. Indeed there were no delivery options. It was all inexplicably quick, and I could not reverse anything. I was then faced with having chosen a very expensive gift (for me) with additional delivery costs, for it to come to me. There was no way of contacting the company (I tried phoning many times and the line simply cut out, not even an answerphone message) - it was explained later that this was because it was after hours followed by a bank holiday - and the phone/emails were not being answered. I also sent several emails marked urgent asking for the delivery address to be changed. Fortunately the owner was monitoring emails intermittently and eventually I did get an email reply from her the following day, so the address was changed and the cake did go to my daughter and not to me, though it did not arrive until the Tuesday after Easter. I was very disappointed by this experience, and nice though the cake was reported to be, I won’t risk ordering again. Had I known that delivery was not possible before Easter, I would not have ordered the cake and would have looked for something else for my daughter.”

“Cakes were great but delivery was poor! Paid for next day and almost took a week to be delivered! Such a shame as was for Mother’s Day too but delivered after the event despite ordering the Tuesday before and paying next day.”

“The chocolate orange wreath consisted of dry cake stuck together with solid chocolate ganache. Not worth the price and we certainly wouldn’t buy another one. Oh, and we got someone else’s message in our box - a happy birthday message for Tim! Very disappointed with this cake.”

Dear Bernard I am sorry you were dissappointed with your cake. This cake is not designed to be decorated as it arrives fully decorated with fruit. I hope we included cutting instructions as this richly fruited, nut full cake does require a sawing action to get through all those goodies! “I expected a next day delivery on the birthday on Sunday but the cake was delivered after 3 days in weekdays. This means we cannot use Meg Rivers service if we want to deliver cake on Sunday”

Good Afternoon. I can see from you order that you placed it Saturday afternoon paying for Weekday delivery. We do not despatch Saturday or Sunday but sent your parcel next day on Monday when we were back in the bakery. We do not offer Sunday delivery and never have. With ground ginger, Crystallised ginger and ginger wine in this 30 year old recipe we've never had "taste little ginger" as a comment. Good Morning Kathleen, I am sorry if you were expecting royal Icing but we've never made cakes with royal icing for many reasons including the fact that they don't travel as well. “6 days past the best before date when I ordered them. Bought on the 8th and arrived with best before date of the 2nd. A bit disappointed as they were a gift for a friend. Shame really as other than that delivery was quick and my friend did enjoy them despite the brownies being a tad tough.”
