Cake looked beautiful. Unfortunately the icing was cloyingly sweet making it inedible. What happened to Royal icing? Just enough sweet to eat Disappointed!

Good Morning Kathleen, I am sorry if you were expecting royal Icing but we've never made cakes with royal icing for many reasons including the fact that they don't travel as well. Our Marzipan Topped Christmas cake has the same recipe fruit cake but with just lovely marzipan and no icing at all. kindest wishes, Jess

6 days past the best before date when I ordered them. Bought on the 8th and arrived with best before date of the 2nd. A bit disappointed as they were a gift for a friend. Shame really as other than that delivery was quick and my friend did enjoy them despite the brownies being a tad tough.

Thank you for getting in touch and sorry to hear about the miss dating on your brownie. We would have happily put this right if we'd known, great to hear the gift was enjoyed. Kindest, Customer Care

I am so sorry to hear your delivery was late. We sent your order using DPDs overnight service as requested and your parcel wasn't flagged as delayed so we were unaware until now that it had been delayed. I have refunded your shipping cost and will inform DPD also. Kindest, Jess

Dear Joanne, I'm so pleased you enjoyed our Christmas Tart, the weight is clearly listed on the website but I will now at the dimension of the paper case in addition. kindest wishes, Jess

Sorry but we found the cake itself very dry. We had purchased 2 at a reduced price knowing that the icing would be runny. It was - but not a problem. I opened one cake the day of arrival and no one liked it. Flavour fine - just too dry and floury. We threw the rest away. I know this is not your usual standard at all but it has warned me off buying your special offers.

Hi Patricia, Thank you very much for posting a review of the Bakery Blunder Coffee & Walnut Cake. I'm sorry that you didn't enjoy this cake. Thank you for your continued support of our small business. Kindest Regards, Alice

I chose a traditional fruit cake which was topped with cherries and walnuts. However, it was impossiblle to slice as it crumbled. The texture was almost wet. The cake was oversweet. I wouldn't share this cake with friends as it just isn't good enough. Sorry, but that is my honest opinion.

Good afternoon Susanne Thanks so much for taking the time to post a review. I'm sorry to learn that you didn't enjoy the Rich English Fruit Cake. We send cutting instructions with these cakes as they are very densely packed with nuts and vine fruits and this can make them tricky to cut neatly. I appreciate you placing an order with us and taking the time to post a review. Kind Regards Alice

The cake was delivered to the wrong address 100 miles from the correct address which caused a lot of problems. The cake itself was very dry and totally crumbled when cut so we were not able to give slices to people. The system of it being plain so you could decorate it yourself is a great concept but no good if the actual cake is not stored properly so it dries out. Had high hopes but disappointed .

Thank you for taking the time to review your cake and experience Harriett. I know we have spoken both on the phone and via email but I would like to further extend my apologies for the mis-delivery - this was entirely my fault and I note a full refund was issued immediately.

Nothing like it used to be. The cakes are baked in paper not with a nice finished edge. They are pale with fork pins - not aesthetically pleasing. Don’t get them out the freezer with pride anymore. Have to do something with the top to cover it up. Disappointing developments. Chris Hesketh Harrogate.

Dear Chris, Thank you for taking the time to give feedback. Some, but not all of our cakes are baked in the cases to enable us to add as much topping as possible - for example the Orange & Almond cake has lots of drizzle which gets left if the cake tin without a case. Our carrot, coffee & walnut and new lemon cake all have a topping that we be more generous with with the edge of a case to work to. Most cakes are baked without the case and some we use a case after baking to make it easier and less sticky to pack! Fork pins I think you're referring too are how we get the drizzle into the likes of the Orange & Almond Cake whilst it is still warm from the oven. Kindest wishes, Jess

After having the chocolate fudge cake which was delicious I decided to order the small selection of cakes, the only one I liked and good quality was the chocolate one. So yes very disappointed with the quality and flavours of the others.

Dear June, I am so glad you've enjoyed our chocolate cakes but sad you didn't enjoy the mini megs as much. If you feel happy to give us another shot I think you might like our Lemon Cake which is similar in texture to our Chocolate Fudge with a fabulous topping. I would be interested to hear any further feedback, kindest wishes Jess (customercare@megrivers.co.uk)

Unfortuntaley the cakes got lost in transit and when they did arrive I didn't find them to be very fresh. This was disappoining as they were a gift.

I brought this for a birthday, the cake was a bit dry and bland. Not worth £30. I have had a lovely Christmas cake from here but this was unfortunately disappointing

I AWAITED WITH MUCH ANTICIPATION FOR YOUR MINCE PIES TO ARRIVE! OH WHAT A DISSAPOINTMENT WHEN THEY DID? 1. NOT MY IDEA OF A 'MINCE PIE' 2. VERY SMALL IN COMPARISON TO OTHERS. THUS NOT COST EFFECTIVE? 3. MY LOCAL BAKERY PRODUCES MUCH BETTER 'REAL' MINCE PIES, AT A LOWER COST? 4. I COULD POSSIBLY HAVE ACCEPTED THE ABOVE. IF THEY HAD LIVED UP TO THIER TV ADVERTISING. IE. THEY HAD TASTED EXCEPTIONAL. BUT WE FOUND THEM QUITE ORDINARY. 5. I DONT KNOW IF THEY WERE EX-CHRISTMAS STOCK. BUT THEY DID NOT TASTE AS 'FRESH; AS EXPECTED. SORRY. F.J.P.

Thank you so much for taking the time to review. We are a small bakery and do not place TV ads so when our products were reviewed on the programmed you saw them featured in those were genuine reactions. Kindest wishes, CustomerCare.

Since this was sent as a present, I am unable to comment - although the recipient seemed happy. Kindly stop sending these intrusive requests for 'feedback'.

Presented well but so sorry but we did not like your Christmas cake. So sweet and sticky, virtually no cake mixture and stuck to the roof of mouth and absolutely no hint of brandy to balance the sweetness.

Good Morning, and thank you for taking the time to review. Unlike supermarket fruit cakes we don't need to use much cake mixture as the fruits (soaked overnight in brandy) and nuts are what make it special we feel, we've been making it that way for 30 years. Perhaps you might enjoy our Almond Fruit Cake more which is more like a Dundee recipe? With kind wishes, CustomerCare

Cake was lovely as always but you omitted to add the birthday message, my Brother was not sure who had sent it, what a shame. Not good, expected much more at that price. Lynda Duffy

Don't send a last-minute gift after 12noon A birthday gift sat in a warehouse over the weekend as I failed to notice the order cut-off of 12 noon and was 2 minutes after that time. It was a Thursday and I paid extra for a 'next day' delivery assuming that would mean a Friday delivery. Missing the despatch time meant it was pushed into a Friday despatch which meant as I hadn't paid for the Saturday delivery (which I would have done had I thought it necessary) the parcel sat in a warehouse over the weekend and wasn't delivered until Monday. Customer service have pointed out that I am in the wrong and that this was clearly displayed on the website so this was my problem. I have also been assured by customer service that had I phoned this order could have been pushed forward to get it out earlier. But I didn't realise the package wasn't being packed and despatched on Thursday so it didn't occur to me to phone. So their website says "Need a last-minute gift?" well not after 12 noon. A lesson for others in the future.

Hi Hart The cutoff is auto created to enable the despatch team to finalise despatch for the day. However with an email or phone call we would happily have added your order the same days despatch. Kindest, Jess
