“Well, I think (actually, I'm sure, to be perfectly honest) I've found my new favourite microbrand! It's incredible how good this new wonderful release from the Marloe Watch Company is. Astro is a truly unique timepiece that is both futuristic and retro at the same time. The thought process accompanying its inception, and the multitude of references encompassed in its design, all so aptly and genuinely described by Gordon in the "Designing the Astro" YouTube video, demand respect and high praise. The watch is different in virtually every possible aspect from its microbrand competitors. All the best "micro" offerings want to be unique and truly distinguish themselves from others, including the big players. However, in my eyes, having many watches in my collection, the Astro is one of the very few examples of a soaring success - it's incredible that Oliver and Gordon brought it to life at such an accessible price. Now, after a good few weeks of almost constant wear, it's high time to get into all the details pertaining to my Astro Valentina, as well as the whole buying experience. Design/build quality - a wonderful and bold idea, and an ingenious reference at the same time - utilising a squircle case shape. It shows that Gordon is not afraid to take risks, which was evident in previous designs, but this one screams boldness. None of us, even the most avid collectors, shall find many watches of this shape in their collections. Choosing a perfect size at 38x38mm Gordon made it perfectly wearable - I wouldn't change the size by even one mm. Then the record-like texture comes - truly wonderful, emphasises the vintage vibe by bringing back vinyl memories, and is perfect in its subtlety, both in texture as well as serving as a reference - phonographs launched aboard the Voyager spacecraft in 1977. This is topped off by bespoke hands, sharp printing (the font is perfect in its simplicity and size), and beautifully polished applied indices - gold is a perfect choice, making the design warm and again - vintage-inspired. Even at close inspection, I failed to find any dust, scratches/dents on the hands or indices, which can be very often found on pieces in this price range - MWC, chapeau bas for finding a truly skilled manufacturing facility. The reticles printed on the underside of the crystal are on point and serve as another smart reference, while the blue triangle at 12 is a very welcome finishing touch. When it comes to printing, it's also necessary to take a look at the caseback - usually, when companies utilise see-through casebacks I hate any printing there, as it essentially defeats the purpose. However, this time, the printing is really charming, so I think it's okay to let it slide. :) When it comes to the crown - its size is perfect, thanks to the knurling it's easy to grip and is also nicely signed (nothing worse than a generic and unsigned one). Movement - Miyota 9039 is a perfect choice here in my opinion. Reliable, easy and inexpensive to service, the MWC abstained from using 9015, so there is no ghost position (another problem often found in other "micro" offerings), and mine runs at +8 spd, so nothing to complain about here. Strap - Cosmo red as the default choice is perfect, truly compliments the beautiful beige-like tone of the dial. Earth Blue is in my opinion also perfect for this watch, complimenting the triangle at 12, and significantly "chilling" its rather warm tonal expression, therefore transforming the whole piece. I'll be picking this variant in the future for sure. The rubber itself is very supple, and the buckle is quite chunky - I usually prefer leather, or a bracelet, which is in most cases the best option in my eyes, however when it comes to Astro, I feel that the provided strap fits it perfectly. Packaging - incredible, simply incredible, nowhere to be found in other "micros" at this, and much higher, price point. Getting the first look at the new acquisition from Marloe is truly an experience, a memorable one at that because the provided book is really nice - you get some not new, but always interesting, historical background - while the sew-on badge is really lovely, and can remind you of this great purchase on some other occasions. Buying experience - the website is awesome, we all can see that. The ordering process is also great, it's possible to add a comment directed to the person processing the order (they do read those because my request for a specific serial number was honoured - another nice touch), but the biggest thing for me is that the price includes all the costs involved. No more headache necessary to perform the customs declaration procedure when importing the piece, and to pay all the tax and duties to the delivery company (often in cash to the hands of the courier which is always annoying)! Well, it's obvious that I'm truly enamoured with this new acquisition and my experience with the Marloe Watch Company - many more purchases will come in the future, I'm sure of that. :) I sincerely recommend shopping with them, you will not be disappointed.”

“I love a good watch and I've always found myself peering into jewellers windows, dribbling over the likes of TAG Heuer, Breitling, Hamilton etc. But, the price band I can marginally afford are simple quartz movements and a bit, meh. I happened upon Marloe through a facebook ad a while back and fell in love with the square Astro series. Nothing except the TAG Monaco really pulls off the square look but I loved the Astro. With the sale on I bagged an Astro Eagle and I managed to mess up the order. I emailed Marloe and I was answered very quickly by Oliver who sorted everything out for me. Cruelly, my wife made me wait unitil my birthday before I could unbox it, and what a box it was. I won't spoil it for anyone buying one but the presentation is exceptional. A real sense of occasion you're about to wear somehting special instead of a dull box. The watch itself is a great weight but effortless to wear, and the quick change straps means you can tailor it to the occasion. I use the Mocha (shown) for a bit more formality and the Orange "Re-entry" strap for more casual attire. Its a great watch with lots of details to discover and the spec list is impressive for even a much more expensive brand. I got the Astro on sale but I would not have been dissapointed if I'd paid retail it's that nice. The sweeping hairline second hand is gorgeous and the champhered hands do add a real 70s space age instrument look. This is my first Marloe watch and it will certianly not be my last.”

“I don't recall where I heard about Marloe, but I'd put a note on my phone to one day check them out. I think a year or so might have passed before I noticed the note! It was possibly serendipitous as, after finding the website and seeing so many beautiful watches I'd have happily acquired, the GMT had only just been released and it grabbed my attention immediately. If I hadn't waited so long I might have already bought something and not been able to justify owning the GMT as well! It really is a beautiful watch and the GMT movement is quite the head spin. Super cool. I got the blue GMT Day and it's quite weird; in the evening under low light it seems to glow as the light bounces off that beautiful blue dial. First time I had to turn the lights off to check whether it was luminescing. It wasn't. And after only a few days of wear I had someone notice and ask me about it. I already own a Brietling Old Navitimer and a Mido Commander, both beautiful, classic watches in their own right. But the GMT is easily now my favourite any time (excuse the pun), anywhere watch. In terms of ordering and delivery, absolutely flawless. Shipped all the way across the world to New Zealand in just 7 days. All shipping costs, import taxes, duties etc covered. Brilliant. Has to be one of the most gratifying online purchases I have ever made! Well done Marloe, I am spreading the word down under :)”
