Could Be Better
Bit disappointed with the satin pothos. It doesn't have roots and the stems were just planted loosely in the top of the soil. Would have expected better from an expensive company.

Hello Hannah, Thank you for your order and review. After looking into this I can see your delivery was delayed by 3 days with APC which wont have helped plant health in such cold conditions. We have reached out directly for photos for us to resolve this for you. I can only apologise for the inconvenience caused. Many thanks, Your Hortology Team

I was disappointed as the plant had a few buds but most had fallen off. I was hoping to have had it in flower for Christmas but the remaining buds fell off so no flowers at all. Very disappointing after seeing the photo when I ordered the Christmas cactus and having paid over£15 for it.

Hello Anne, Thank you for your order and review. I am sorry to hear your Christmas cactus has lost flower buds in transit, they are delicate plants and we do mention this bud loss in transit on on their page https://hortology.co.uk/products/schlumbergera-christmas-cactus-white Though great to hear it still has some flower buds. Their flowering season is quite long from the start of November - January and their flowers aren't permanent, naturally dying back in around 6 weeks time. We have reached out directly for some photos to check the plant is in good health and any questions please do let us know. Many thanks, Your Hortology Team

I received an alocasia as a gift its been two weeks now and they are starting to wilt. I removed 6 leaves already and continued to turn brown

Hello Dennis, Thank you for your order and review. We are sorry to hear about your Alocasia, Alocasia in general do tend to lose some leaves during their dormancy phase in the winter months. Leaves will yellow slightly and fade away and your plant will then generate new growth in the Spring. We have reached out to you directly for more info as we would love to get this resolved for you. Many thanks, Your Hortology Team

Although there were no issues with delivery and I love the planter I bought, I feel aggrieved about being mis-sold the pot liner. Below the description it was advised that the pots, because of the way they are made aren’t guaranteed to be watertight and a plastic liner should be used inside the pot. The suggested liner for my pot size was £6. When I received my pot not only was there a label that said 100% watertight, but due to the shape of my pot, the liner was distorted and would have interfered with the root growth. A waste of money and a waste of plastic.

Great delivery time but plants were horribly squashed. Packaging was horrendously done: tape across leaves meaning my spider plants were all ruined. I’ve only given 2 stars for the delivery but I won’t be buying from them again and would not recommend. There are better web plant sellers out there…

Their plants and pots are ok, but some didn’t meet my expectations and their costly returns policy (as well as no free shipping option) meant I couldn’t shop without worry.

Hi Andrew We are sorry to hear you were not happy with some of the pots. We subsidise our shipping costs as much as possible, but due to high courier charges and the fact the risk is always with the shipper (the couriers will not provide insurance for pots), we are unable to also offer a free returns service without this affecting sales prices. Should you decide to shop with us again, please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions at all about any of our products before placing your order. We are always happy to provide any further information or photographs that might be of assistance in making a purchase. KInd regards - Your Hortology Team

Very disappointing. The plant I purchased for £11.99 was half the size of one I purchased in a local supermarket for £2.50.

I placed a few orders with these guys and everything went well. I was happy with the service and the plants. Then I ordered a present for a friend and it never arrived. I realised something seemed off when I was never contacted about it so contacted support and to say they were less than helpful would be an understatement. Was told that I was sent an email to rearrange delivery, even though it was a gift and I gave contact info for my friend. I checked, no email, checked all my folders. Then I found out the courier ( APC) lied about delivery so I contacted them again. I was asked to reconfirm that I did not get the email and all the info that I had already told them. At this point I asked for a refund, I was told the plant was on its way back to them and I would get one once it arrived. That was a week ago, no email, no refund. I hope leaving this review will speed things up. I liked this service before and I hope you improve.

Hi Sarah, We are really sorry that your order was not delivered as expected. As soon as we were aware of the delay, we contacted the courier to put in place the steps to resolve and ultimately arranged a return to sender at your request. We processed your refund upon receipt and are sorry to hear it had not yet reached you by the time of your review, it can take 3-4 working days for your card provider to process. We always try to do our very best to resolve any issues as soon as possible for our customers and we are sorry if this process was not as smooth as you had hoped. Kind regards - Your Hortology Team

Plant was unfortunately pretty damaged during delivery. I understand transport can bend some leaves but unfortunately all the larger leaves were broken so I have an almost leafless plant now. They will eventually grow back but in the meantime it’s quite a disappointing look.

Arrived looking quite disheveled and some leaves bent and broken. One had all its stems bent badly in the packaging and subsequently a few leaves turned brown within a few days.

Hi Ingrid The plant that you ordered is highly susceptible to transit shock as noted on the product description, however they usually settle down once established in their new environment. So we can look into this further for you please would you contact our customer services team and send in some photos? Kind regards - Your Hortology Team

Whilst the plants have settled well, there was too much tape used to hold them in place for transportation. When removing the tape from each plant, some leaves came away from the plant which is somewhat disappointing.

Hi Paul We are really sorry to hear about this. We use some tape to hold the plants in position in its transit tray but this should not be on the plant itself and should not result in lost foliage. We will look into how your order was packed to determine if we can do something differently to avoid this happening in the future. If there was significant damage to the plants please would you send us some photos to our customer service team so we can resolve this issue for you? Kind regards - Your Hortology Team

Delivery was quick but not satisfied with the product received. I ordered a string of hearts and this arrived with yellow leaves, one stem was rotten, multiple leaves dropped off and several stems with no leaves. It may revive itself in some areas but I wasn’t pleased with its overall condition on arrival.

I would not buy here again. Purchased a plant here as a gift for my sister. Although everything was on stock according to the website when I placed the order (I checked for that), it took over 10 days for the plant to be delivered. When I informed about the status after a week it was argued that the extra delivery time was displayed on the website. But surprisingly that same day of checking the status, the order was dispatched. The plant (Alocasia zebrina Tiger - Elephant Ear) arrived eventually, but not in a great state, with hanging leaves and ugly spots on 1 of the 4 leaves. As said, i would not order here again.

Hi Carlijn We are sorry to hear you would not buy from us again. We have double checked your order and the pot was out of stock when you placed your order. We sold the last one and it moved to this status on 27 June and we did not receive any more until 6 July. This released your order for processing and your order was dispatched the next day. Items show either as "In Stock" or with an anticipated lead times eg "1-2 weeks" immediately below each size option as it is selected and these change as you select different size options. We are sorry if you missed that information when you placed your order. Further investigation of your order shows that there was a slight issue with the delivery at the courier side, resulting a the plant being in transit a few days longer than expected, despite being sent on an overnight delivery service. Given the extreme heat we have had recently, this is likely to have caused your Alocasia to droop slightly in transit. It should perk up after 24 hours in a more stable and humid, environment, with a drink as necessary. Spots may have developed due to lack of moisture or humidity. We would not send plants out that were in poor condition. If you would get in touch with our customer services team and send some photos, if the plant will not recover we will be able to resolve this for you. KInd regards - Your Hortology Team

My Polyscias aralia plant arrived promptly but after two days the leaves started falling. I received advice about this which I followed to the letter. The plant is now almost dead. Over£80 wasted.

Hi Asma We are sorry to hear your Polyscias is struggling. These plants are prone to leaf drop due to sudden environmental changes, such as being in transit. However, as long as they are kept in the correct environment, foliage will develop again. Short term leaf drop post transit is not usually a cause concern as long as the plant arrived in good condition. It may look like it is dying but there is a good chance it is not. An interesting feature of the Polyscias is that if it does drop leaves, new growth can occur anywhere along the stem. Further leaf drop is usually an indication of a watering issue. The roots are usually low in the pot, so do allow the top part of the soil to dry out before watering each time. However it has been very warm recently so your plant may need a lot more water than usual at this time of year. Use a moisture meter if you have one to double check when to water. Getting the right balance is crucial. Polyscias also don't fare well with sudden temperature changes, so place somewhere to avoid draughts. Also, they do best with higher humidity levels so are ideal in a kitchen or bathroom. If the air is dry then the plant won't thrive. All being well your plant should get back on track, but please do check in with us for any more advice as required. Kind regards Your Hortology Team

The plant does not look like the picture. I am not entirely satisfied with it. It came with one burned leaf. My Aglaonema Stripes has only few leaves! One stem has 4, the other has 3. Looks quite poor. But new leaves are coming so I hope it will look better in the future.

Order arrived on time, but wasn’t suitable & one plant pot in poor condition. No free returns, so returned by courier & arrived damaged despite using original packaging. For a £35, ended up £15 out of pocket, so disappointed.

Hi Darryl We are sorry you are disappointed. However this is true, we do not offer a free returns service as it can be difficult successfully sending fragile ceramic items through the courier network. As advised before you made the return, returns are therefore at your risk as we cannot control the way in which they are packaged or protected for transit. Sadly one of the items arrived back broken and was unfit for resale and we were unable to offer a refund in full for this item. We have made a partial refund as a goodwill gesture. The other item arrived back in good condition and has been refunded in full along with your original shipping charges. Kind regards Your Hortology Team

Hi Hortology, while I love your products and your service, I will not be ordering from you again due to the amount of needless packaging. I ordered one medium sized plant pot and received it in a box that would have fitted ten. The padding alone filled up my recycling bin. I do understand that most people probably order more than just one pot but you should have greener packaging available.

Thank you for taking the time to contact us on this. Unfortunately this is the amount of packaging that is required to ensure our pots arrive intact. Being fragile ceramic they need a sufficient level of cushioning and protection to avoid damage in transit. We have spent a lot of time testing and developing our packaging to ensure this is optimal, both from a protective but also an environmental perspective. Any less and the breakage rate increases significantly, resulting in more packaging to resend a new item to our customer and more fuel to deliver etc. Please be assured our packaging is all made from recycled material and is fully recyclable. Paper cushioning is proven to have more protective qualities that bubble wrap and has less of an environmental impact, hence our decision to use paper rather than plastic. The way it is crimped also created pockets of air, so not as much paper is used as it may appear. We also have a large selection of different box sizes so we can ensure only the smallest possible box size is used without compromising protection. I hope this is useful information for you. Kind regards Your Hortology Team

The plant arrived nicely packaged and looking healthy. However, within 2 days, a few of the leaves have gone entirely yellow and the plant has started to droop. Not sure if this was a case of overwatering to compensate for the prolonged delivery period but I am quite disappointed as it is a lovely plant...
