“The website was easy to navigate and you had the tool I wanted, postage was quick too which was nice. Just a bit dissapointed that the chisel came with a jagged cutting edge where I assume it had been dropped or knocked. Not along the whole end just about 4mm on the top left corner, So it needed a good sharpen.”

“can't comment on the product as it still hasn't arrive 8 days later. I really wish you wouldn't sue TNT, they are totally useless. Due to their inefficiency my job has now been delayed by nearly a week. I have an unhappy client as a result. I have no problem with G&S, you came well recommended, but i won't use you again if TNT are the delivery company. Sorry for ranting. many thanks”

“To be honest , the product I received ( a Pfeil arm support looked nothing like the image online ... And also was also given incorrect info over the phone regarding what part of the product the length referred to. Sorry to be negative , but it's true”

“Hello, I am a furniture maker based in London. Great range of timber and related products, excellent web site (clear, concise and user friendly) and quick delivery. I ordered 20 pcs x 1m of (approx’) 12mm maple dowel, 3 pieces were discoloured in places which I cannot use for my chairs. I had ordered two extra pieces just in case so I’ll have to pick the best of one of the three discoloured/knotty/weak ones, not a big problem. I also ordered 2pcs x 1m x 1” (I think) sycamore for my colleague but received this in maple and one piece was quite bent. He was going to rerun them but I think he’s now decided he can manage with these. Best regards, Andrew Englefield”

“One of the 2x1m lengths of ash dowel was damaged by 2 deep nicks. I have tried to email you with a photo attachment but the 2 websites I tried (www.toolsandtimber.co.uk. + info@toolsandtimber.co.uk) were not accepted by my server.”

“In fact I can tell a different story a true one.... last weekend U had a promotion 15/off everything so I was trying to buy a set of woodcarving chisels... As I started the process everything ok, the set was in stock and at the last moment the payment was rejected..... By the beginning of the week the set was back in stock more expensive even before the promotion.... well done lads.!!!”

Hi Theodor, I have looked into this negative review to find that you placed and order with us on the Friday for Pfeil Draw knife and you received the 10% discount on this item. We have a lot of sales on the discount weekend so some items sell quickly this was the case with the pfeil carving sets, however your could have still ordered at the discounted price and waited for the stock to arrive in . my final point and a very valid one is that none of the pfeil has increased in price at all ! in your review you are insinuating that we have increased the prices after the discount weekend and this is completely untrue as no prices have changed in the the last two weeks.

“I had a computer engineer sorting out my computer in my sons old bedroom, which is above the front door , when he'd finished we came down stairs to find a collection note on the mat telling me they had called and a very vague address to collect it from , we both said we had'nt heard the door bell . I am a pensioner with no car now so have to arrange for someone to collect it , very disappointing especially when the postage was so expensive .I have had a message on my ansa machine now from Gavin who will deliver my ash dowel either tomorrow Thursday or Friday. Thank you all very much”

“UPS screwed the pooch and delivered it without notification before I was awake . They left two different notifications as to where it was but eventually I went to Londis in Lee about a mile away and retrieved it, The 9.5 mm dowels were excellent clean round and straight the 6mm dowels were all nicely machined but three of the ten were marked by dark knots - they may be useful depending on what parts I can use. One was grey green throughout but seems okay strength wise ONE was not Tulip wood at all it was easiliy identifiable by its grain feel and smell as OAK. However I shall use this as a secondary High wind rear spar as though heavier it is phenomenally flexible and an unexpected alternative timber for kites. I don't know why I got the oak maybe there were only nine 6mm dowels left in the bin and whoever packed it figured nobody would notice. packing was wexcellent - the box could have held a hundred 6mm dowels which is what I might order next time as the machining is superb - most dowel one buys in DIY stores is not round its sort of oval and the cutters often leave a lip down both sides and frequently it has knots or else finger joints at 50 cm intervals. I used to use Ramin but it is a horrible wood for kites as under stress it splits into long daggers that go through the covering. Ash would have been fine but all the planks I could get had fiddle grain and the sawn thin sticks warped. I think your operation is a great help as otherwise I would have to make old style kites entirely with bamboo which is very variable. European poplar was commonly used by French kite builders and Tulip wood is similar even if the Trees are not closely related. Next time I shall need 12.7mm and 15mm Dowels longer than 1metre as the kite will be 3 metre wingspan and 225 tall so the length would be around 150mm - it would be silly to build kites this size without tube joints as they provide extra strength in the middle and the package would be difficult to carry to kite Events above 180 cm. I do not drive and even if I did it would be hard to find a big enough roof box. I do use carbon fibre tube but the cost is horrendous and I will not build Cotton kites with it as it is far stronger than the fabric and I would prefer to have to replace a snapped spar than make a new kite.”

“I was disappointed to see three knots in a lime carving blank 65x260 x407mm. Shaun said this was normal in large blanks and offered to arrange collection and a refund but declined my request for a goodwill discount in place of the collectin/delivery charges that would be incurred by returning the blank, C'est la vie”

Hello Peter we offered to collect (at our expense) and replace the blank but were told by yourself that you had already cut it up. If you had contacted us prior to cutting it we would have happily exchanged it for you. As Shaun stated in carving blanks of that size you will find the occasional small knot. They were 'live' knots and would not have affected the structural integrity of the finished piece. Kind regards G&S

“Very rapid delivery. I ordered 20, one metre 18mm oak dowels. Two of them (so 10%) were very knot afflicted and for my purpose (frame pegging) created wastage, so quality control could be better. Diameters were mostly very good, but 5 were almost 1mm over, which is outside tolerance. Since I am driving pegs of circa 20-24 cm int0 18mm auger bit cut peg holes in oak, I need better accuracy so had to adjust them. Good price and good service but not perfect on this occasion.”

“Nice website. Easy to use. Easy to pay. Stuff came a little slower than anticipated but was told about delay via email. Well packaged with no damage but the dowel I ordered was not at all to spec so is unusable for the intended use.”
