I specifically purchased a wooden dowel because on the website it mentioned the dowel was 'redwood pine' and I couldn't find the same timber locally. Even though the item itself was only around £3, I spent £9 in shipping believing it would be redwood. When the dowel arrived it was apparent it's merely standard pine. It was even labelled so on the dowel. After emailing customer service I was told pine and redwood pine are interchangeable. I deduced they just added "redwood" to the online name for marketing purposes, even though the original product is named 'pine'. If it specified that the dowel was standard pine, I could have easily purchased the same dowel locally for a fraction of the price. The shipping was exceptionally fast.

Hi, Thank you for your review, as mentioned on our emailed reply to your query, the redwood pine dowels are machined from Clear Scandinavian Redwood. We can offer other pines like yellow pine and scots pine but the dowels you have received are redwood pine (or pine for short) I hope this helps. Kind regards G&S Team

Delivery of order of turning blanks was fast but unfortunately wood is badly warped, I have also placed order and received wrong size, will persevere a little longer but need better quality.

I cannot reply directly to your question since I am not at presente in England but I requested the order to be sent to my sister (Sara Midda) and I shall collect it when there - next week. I did receive a message from DHL stating that my sister was absent and that they had left the order elsewhere but did not say where. I would be most grateful if you could make sure the order is delivered to my sister's home. She has not very mobile. The order is important for me to finish my construction of na oak/beecj dining table! I live in Lisbon, Portugal and am sorry you do not deliver overseas! I often need small amounts of dowels and other bits of exotic woods and looking through your internet site, I see you would be a great source! Thanks, Simon JM Davis

Good morning. The order was sent to the address requested and as mentioned on your review when UPS attempted delivery on the parcel there was no-one available to receive it. I have looked into this for you and can see your parcel has been left at a UPS access point. The access point address is Hirange Supermarket, Westergate Street, Bognor Regis PO20 3QZ. Put the order on back order 7 to 8 days. After 8 days phoned them and was told it would be there on the Friday, Friday came still no delivery. Finally arrived the following Tuesday day 13 .Didn't get much of an apology either.

P&P were good, but two of the pieces I ordered for relief carving (in my case woodcut printmaking) had knots in and cross grain making them useless for the job. It was described as exceptional quality lime, but two of the pieces chosen and sent to me were poor.

delivery quick no complaints but quality not so good.. Dozens of knots requiring filler. One particular knot was really bad on the outside edge almost half an inch deep. One piece had a lateral bow, The defects made for increased prep and fitting time

The order came quickly and the telephone support before hand very good, but two (admittedly very small ) components were not in the package. The other products were good. It remains to be seen whether these will be sent, since they were listed as having been dispatched.

Have received three carving block of different sizes , one very good, second had ? rot in top section , latest one also not workable in it full size. Hit and mis, at present I’m only making individual orders. Perhaps order large number so more flexibility. Staff very good, professional. Stephen.

Incorrect dowel was delivered. The oak dowel I ordered was not included in my order.

i orsered 2 dowels, 1 beech, 1 pine. supposedly, both were "accurately sanded" to 25.4mm however, the beech dowel was in fact 26.1mm and the pine 24mm, consequently, neither fitted snugly into a 25.4mm pre drilled hole. i will be very catious about buying from g&s in the future

New to wood carving, purchased a pfeil Kerb 4,easy fast ordering online, knife arrived super fast the next day and well packed. Great service from the company. only downside, the knife was blunt and I had to get my husband to sharpen before I could use it, only using softwood, and now needs sharpening again.

The order was late due to being out of stock and had to be machined,this was fine as I did not need the items urgently and received a polite email explaining the situation. I waited for my order to arrive and after approximately a week decided to phone to find out when I would receive the items,I was told the order would be delivered that day and would need to be signed for .I explained this would be be a problem as me and my partner are out at work all day and have had issues in the past as the ups depot is in Southampton which is to far from Weymouth, the lady on the phone gave no options of how to rectify this and without waning passed me over to another person who would not tell me who they were , I then nded the call contacted ups myself and found out the package could be dropped off at a collection point at the request of the sender , I then called your company back to relay this and was met with more disinterest and what sounded like disbelief and a "they would check this was the case"I then received a voicemail saying the package would be left at the drop off point. When i finally received the item the box is severely dented and appears to be lacking any padding .I have not checked but will be surprised if the items are not damaged .

Quick shipping, but one of my 3 tools was not in good condition... The iron and the plane present some knocks. It was the latest to sell, so I presume I can't make a exchange ? Sad for that price...

I paid for next day delivery and I did not get it as you were very busy. I asked for money back on the extra postage, which I got but then the parcel got sent outside of school hours and then get redelivered the next day. So this was a stressful transaction.

First time ordering blanks. We had a couple of conversations to work out how the dimensions listed and how n the end got the order wrong. Cost of postage makes it not worth returning. Am after different walnut dimensions but you no longer have any in stock
