“We wanted to transfer our final salary pension pot into a SIPP that we could control and Dewberry's Neil Adams agreed we should transfer. However we didn't want to transfer into his Quilter recommended platform and following this conversation with him he changed his advice to "do not transfer". Effectively attempting to blackmail us into the platform from which he gets paid. No where is this made clear in any of the paperwork. I would avoid if I were you. Illusion of choice, in reality they just want your pension pot.”

Dear Mr Thorpe, Thank you for your feedback. Defined Benefit pensions are often referred to as ‘gold plated pensions’ and a huge amount of care needs to be taken with the decision to transfer out or not. As part of our advice process we need to provide a personal recommendation for a suitable pension and investment solution. Where the money is invested is a crucial part of the advice. In the wrong investments the consequences can be catastrophic. In this instance you wanted to disregard our advice and select your own pension and investments. Unfortunately we need to provide the advice in full rather than only part of it. We’re an appointed representative of Quilter Financial Planning (who pre-approve all defined benefit advice before providing the client with the recommendations) and their advice process is not to facilitate the wishes of clients that is against our advice. The risk of this going horribly wrong for the client down the road is significant. As you are unhappy with this outcome, I have passed this over to Quilter’s complaints department who will be in touch with you shortly. Kind regards, Tom Conner Director Drewberry
