Great narrowboat and great scenery (Llangollen canal), just very disappointed with the Marina staff member at Chirk who conducted the induction and decided to tell us at the end that he should have probably put his mask on as he thought he might have COVID. Sure enough, by the end of our week's holiday, we were both ill and too sick to operate the boat. Narrowboat Holiday ruined as was the rest of our UK tour and the next few months while we recovered. Thanks, mate! Despite being asked to comment on our holiday directly to Black Prince via Leighton@black-prince.com, we never heard back from Mr Leighton Jones. Things to be aware of, unless you do 5 or 6 hours a day cruising (or engine idling), there's unlikely to be enough battery power and hot water to get you through the night. So 4 hours a day cruising actually means sitting with a diesel idling for another hour or so. A lot of the supposed canal side attractions (e.g. canal side pubs, in-town restaurants) are still advertised, despite not surviving COVID lockdowns and are now permanently shut; be prepared. The narrow boat itself was well equipped, but some soft fenders would be appreciated as spending the night with the boat bashing against concrete or stone-faced moorings is hell. The "liveaboards" can be quite aggressive to holidaymakers and we experienced one who's failure to give way caused us to take avoiding action, many also think it's fun to create excessive wash so slamming your boat against the moorings. While I acknowledge most folk have a great narrowboat holiday, our experience with the "couldn't-care-less" staff members has put us off doing it again.

Here we acknowledge that we did not respond to you immediately upon receiving the team's findings, and we apologise for the delay in going back to you. As we have now written to explain, concerning your complaint regarding Paul, who conducted the handover with you, it has been communicated to me by Paul and the team that there might have been a misunderstanding. Paul, at the time, neither had Covid nor exhibited any symptoms. Having previously experienced a severe episode of Covid, he took the precaution of wearing a mask before entering the boat's interior to minimize any potential risk to himself. We are genuinely sorry to learn that you and your wife fell ill during your stay with us. The global prevalence of Covid has posed challenges, with people traveling and engaging in social interactions, making it difficult to entirely mitigate the risk of transmission from any source. Once again, I apologize for the delay in responding to your concerns. As a team, we are committed to reviewing our customer service practices and complaints procedures to prevent such delays in the future. We have been having holidays every year since 1987, twice some years, with Black Prince. We have just completed a very enjoyable three weeks from Wigrams Turn - our 39th trip with them. We have found all the staff, both office and base, to be very friendly and helpful. The boats are excellent - extremely comfortable and well equipped. We find our holidays on the canals to be very relaxing - even working the locks is great fun! We would thoroughly recommend a narrowboat holiday.

Disappointing, ☹️☹️ The pick up point was difficult to find, poor signage obscured by trees. Not much of a welcome on arrival. Made to feel guilty for arriving early! Not a marina outfit, just a couple of shed type buildings, We have been on 4 previous “Luxury” Narrowboat holidays and by comparison Black Prince was lacking. There was only one toilet role for the whole week! And No cleaning products provided. Previous Luxury Narrowboat Companies have provided a welcome pack with eco friendly cleaning products and loo rolls due to having a macerator toilet. Therefore, I didn’t buy any to take on board. There was no Microwave, no toaster, no WiFi and poor or no TV signal, despite apparently up grading the aerial, When I stripped the bed before handing the boat back, there where stains on the duvet🤮🤮 Overall we made the best of our holiday, but we won’t be booking with Black Prince again next year. We have already booked with a Luxury family owned company.

Thank you for taking the time to give feedback on your holiday. We are planning on signage improvements for our hire base in Cheshire and we'll take a look at the foliage as well to ensure it's not obscuring the signs - it's a good point. Regarding the duvet stains, we'll get on to that right away. Otherwise, I'm sorry we didn't meet your expectations for the inventory on the boat, we do list the inventory on the website and in our brochure and we don't currently offer a microwave, toaster and WiFi. Thanks again for highlighting areas where we can improve and we hope you enjoy your holiday next year.

Awful, worst boating holiday ever booked, very old boat with many ongoing issues, breakdown which resulted in smoke pouring from engine & accelerator causing delayed check in whilst awaiting repair which resulted in rude & arrogant reaction from a senior member of staff on return to base. Boats seem to be changed out very quickly after return check in, Covid safety should be questioned. Broken grill & toilet-advised “tricky” at handover. Estimated cruising times in welcome book highly inaccurate for present state of canals with increased users, should be urgently updated as very difficult to plan your journey as they are way off. Worst condition of canal boat I’ve ever hired. Very old. Only 2USB & 1 plug socket for 8 people. No toaster. Need to update their fleet if they want to charge over £1600 for three day hire. Not good value for money break and could not recommend to anyone. Plenty other good quality canal boat hire companies to choose from who will treat customers much better.

A great friendly welcome by Gary (Gareth). He was quick and professional with his beginners teach-in’. Within an hour he was confident of our capabilities, advised on a couple of routes, then followed us out to end of the Marina. And we were on our way. A couple of miles of easy Narrowboating until we arrived at the ‘Nine Locks’ on the Oxford Canal. We decided to moor up and go for the ‘nine’ first thing next morning. We had a great evening meal, in the congenial atmosphere, at ‘The Folly’ in Napton. The scene was set ! The next few days we honed our skills and enjoyed the English scenery surrounding the Oxford Canal meandering course. A few days later, as quick as it started, we coasted our way back into the Marina, and I must say, more confident and professional than when we left ! Gareth was there to meet us. We had had a marvellous satisfying time. We didn’t see Prunella & Timothy, maybe they saw us (you’ll have to read their report !! ). Weather wasn’t the kindest but didn’t dampen our enthusiasm. We will be back again. It was a memorable time. Thanks to everyone !

We had a wonderful Mon-Fri break with Black Prince. The boat was very well equipped & comfortable, the staff were friendly & helpful, and altogether it was a delightful, relaxing holiday. We started at Chirk, and I'm sure it's the most beautiful stretch of canal in the country, taking into account Llangollen, aqueducts, tunnels, locks & lifting bridges. The fact I could take my dog with me was a great bonus too. Thank you!
