“The shoes were fine, I couldn't find what I wanted on my usual sites. The problem is with Beggs is that I am in Ireland they are outside the EU now and I had to pay nearly €20 tax to retrieve my purchase. I didnt realise this when I bought them and it made the shoes more expensive than they are. I think this should be highlighted on the webpage. Honestly I felt a bit stupid. Here in R of Ireland, we are accustomed to being connected, I suppose.”

We are working on a smoother way to Export to the EU, with the local VAT charges prepaid for our customers in Europe. Before Brexit, this was very straightforward and we hope to have a better system in place soon. For now, our website explains the issues around Brexit, Import VAT and charges on both our Delivery Information page and our Product Pages, however, we will review how we can make this even clearer to avoid any surprise charges on arrival in the EU. “I like buying from Begg Shoes and the personal service is great -my only issue is with sizing : I am a size 7, which has, until recently, always been a 40 in European sizing. My latest purchases , Clarkes brand , are supposedly size 7, but European size 41. Consequently, they are a little too long. I am keeping them because they are comfortable and I can't cope with the returns process since our Post Office closed and re-opened in an underfunded and inconvenient way inside WHSmith - no seats, seriously understaffed, long queues, so more chance of contracting Covid, having to travel through the shop via escalator which makes the whole process more irritating and drawn out. I also resent being manipulated into buying things I don't want or need by this deliberate, exploitative strategy.”
