Got this for my RPi 3B and it works really great! Powerful blow yet quiet, definitely recommending for anyone who's going for that overclocked power!

The PoE HAT works as required. Used it for a few hours continuously and worked without issue. Only thing I have noticed is that when you have shutdown the Pi but it is still being delivered power from the PoE source, you can hear a very high pitched squeak. Might just be my HAT but cannot say as have not got another to compare against.

(3) Key Benefits of PoE powered Pi's: A) Can power a Pi from cold just by disabling and then re-enabling the port on PoE switch it's connected to B) Max length of an Ethernet cable is 100m vs 1m for standard Pi mains power cable C) Powers external USB hard drives without need for a powered USB hub. These were always crap, never seem to last long and added to the clutter on your desk. Now you can just plug an external HD into your Pi and voila! there it is. Anybody trying to use their Pi's as security cameras will have bumped into the issue of the piddlingly short mains cable making it impossible to place cameras more thanmeter from a mains socket. The PoE switch I use with my PoE powered Pi's is the ZyXEL GS1900-8HP-GB0102F. Did a lot of research on this switch and this is the one you want. even supports IPv6 and SNMP v3 -Terrence Houlahan, Linux & Network Engineer

I already have a powered over Ethernet switch running in my house so the poe hat is a really useful addition reducing the need for power supplies and all of the cabling. Rather a simple device to install, the posts provide the correct spacing. Only downside is that there is no pass through assuming you may wish to use other hats at the same time. I really think this is a cool addition. We now have four Pis running Boinc with the Poe hats, and VNC for management from the laptop / iPads.

There is a known technical issue with this product. https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=45&t=220984 as confirmed by the Raspberry Pi engineers. I happen to use it with a Pi 3 Model B+ that does NOT have the issue, and it's a great little board. Fan is surprisingly quiet at the times it's running, and only runs when the Pi is under load. However, I have to say that it's expensive for what it is, but if you need your POE solution at the minimum size, then this is your solution. However, wait for the board re-spin without the over-current issues.

Excellent for headless unit. Transformer caused interference with use of wireless Logitech mouse and keyboard when plugged in.
