“My TV remote does not work on the Pi ( XBMC ), which is a problem, and short of using a remote mouse or keyboard, I stumbled across this little gem!
Simply plug this into a PC, download the relevant software ( I'm using Ubuntu on a laptop ) and run the application to program FLIRC with your remote control.
I had trouble with pressing keys twice, and a "Freeze" message on my TV, but the support from FLIRC was brilliant, all I had to do was to program each key twice in a row.
The "Freeze" message still happened, but it was only on the "OK" key on the remote, so I used another key instead.
I even used a USB-extension, so I could locate the FLIRC directly under the TV, so I am always aiming my remote towards the TV. Result!”
“For £15 this is an excellent IR dongle receiver. It doesn't just work with the Raspberry Pi but works with any device that takes USB HID devices. This emulates a keyboard. The setup is really straightforward and works with Windows 8 (just make sure you download the fix from the developers website). Well worth the money and I would recommend it.”
