The Flirc wasn't a simple plugin and go. I had to fiddle using Windows XP as there was no support for my preferred Archlinux system, and Windows 8 laptop didn't work and forum indicated I had to use cmd.exe to change signing settings and download a big file!! Eventually I updated XP drivers from the flirc device itself - they could put that somewhere in the FAQ.

... there shuold be a more easily accessible tutorial about firmware upgrade and configuration options. It's shipped with an ancient fw and caused me a lot of headache until I figured out I could update it. :(

FLIRC is a wonderful concept; and I am sure it will prove very useful. BUT ... it failed to recognise the Apple Keyboard !! On first start-up; a "wizard" asked me to press the key immediately to the right of the left hand Shift Key. ... it then declared that the Apple keyboard layout was unrecognised. Interestingly; having once failed to identify the keyboard, the "wizard" no longer appears. ... FLIRC only offers me a Windows Keyboard layout. This is a very disappointing start to what should have been a delightful relationship. PLEASE: Let's have an upgrade, to bring full functionality to the Mac. ... Then it will certainly merit Five Stars. MichaelG.

Neat little device which is easy to setup. At present there is no setup software for the pi, you have to set it up on another device. This is not a problem as it remembers the keycodes you programmed. My only minor negative comment is that it will only accept 6 keys from your remote.
