“bought off ebay but from same seller (MX5 parts): Basically like others I found the actual unit does what it's supposed to do, BUT the 'sales pitch' makes no reference to the need for having to drill extra holes into both the plate and the fibre-glass bodywork to accommodate the UK numberplate!Furthermore the rawl-plug-like 'studs' and their plastic screws were next to useless as I could not screw in tightly at all (for the stud to remain fixed) before the plastic screw supplied sheared apart...I was actually thankful therefore for the need to drill 2x 3mm holes in both the plinth and the car so that the numberplate itself is fixed to the car with the plinth in-between by way of a self-tapping screw, if that makes sense!Job took approx 15 mins and I was grateful to having read other reviews first as it forewarned me I might need to do this extra DIY... Sorry it's the last point, but the delivery speed was AMAZING: bought at approx 3pm on-line and arrived next morning; under 24hr turnaround!Would have been 3 stars for the product, but the usual service expected from MX5 parts made it 4; would have been 5 if the need for further drilling (apart from the 8mm holes that were already there, thankfully) was mentioned.David”

“Considering I have NEVER fitted anything to a car before and have only ever once used a drill (unsuccesfully), this was really easy! Bought it to replace a hanging number plate & I'd removed the old bracket & fitted this in just under an hour. Did have to substitute the fixings as the ones supplied didn't seem long enough to go through my bumper but my little car looks so much prettier now.”

“Now on my third replacement as numbers 1 &2 have both shattered following minimal impact. These plinths are too brittle compared with the Mazda suplied one. Also the fixing pin's do not feel very secure. Very disappointed .”

“Absolute rubbish. Not the same shape / size as the original. Supplied fittings rubbish and fixing holes do not line up to match the original. Now stuck as damaged the original beyond repair getting it off the car. Very disappointed - with so much poor feedback, why is this respected site still selling this item?Editors Note: These plinths are a direct copy of the Genuine Mazda one that is no longer available. They were never supplied from the factory and were fitted by dealers in the UK when the cars were new, and they were the ones that drilled the original holes. We suspect that Mazda UK did however change supplier part way through the cars production, so we can only sumise that there are two types, the one we had copied being the later version, and may have the holes in a different place. For reference, the hole spacing on the Mk2 & 2.5 plinths we sell are 34cm.”

“I have to agree with the other negative reviews of this item. Am on to my second from MX-5 Parts and both have shattered on light parking-type impacts with walls, posts etc where they really should not have. Also very expensive for what you get.The plastic is simply too thin, brittle and weak at the corners to stand up to any contact. Plus getting the thing to fit to the bumper involves screwing it on (forget the supplied clips - they won't hold it securely) and the rubber surround does not fit well. Please, MX-5 Parts, upgrade this item!! Why not manufacture in a semi-rigid rubber??It does look nice when it lasts though!!”
