“I held back at first because of the price, but eventually thought I have to have one, particularly because my favourite Trevor J Wilson was involved in its design. I have used it four times and realise I need something sturdy to avoid burns. I have an AGA I have ordered some heat proof gloves as I think that will help with taking the lid off while its in the oven as opposed to lifting the whole thing out which I was doing initially. When it is red hot and because it is heavy I found myself struggling a bit, but it gets easier now that I have got more used to it. In truth I love it and I think the size is brilliant and the handles excellent too. If you are small and 73 like me you have to consider the weight of it. I have only been baking bread for a year and this has made a huge difference to the success of my sourdough loaves.”
“I'd hear all about the Challenger bread pan on Instagram & I have to say its absolutely fantastic!! ITs raised by Sourdough game another level!! Expensive but quality and worth every penny!
Shout out to Bakery bits for being easy to shop with too!”
“I'm pretty happy with this purchase as an alternative to a cast iron casserole or a steamed up oven. I can cook batards (which I think are better than boules), the bread looks great and I'm getting good oven spring. However, getting the oven temperature right seems tricky. After 15 minutes with the lid on, I find the bread is pretty dark after 10 minutes rather than the 30 minutes suggested by the manufacturer and, if you are making a 2nd loaf you probably have to reheat to maximum to get good spring. No regrets, however.”
