About Halo:

Halo is a registered charity and social enterprise running 22 sport and leisure centres throughout Herefordshire, Bridgend County Borough, Shropshire and Swindon on behalf of the local authorities. We often discuss our status as a social enterprise, but many of our customers are unsure of what it actually means and more importantly, how it benefits them. Being a social enterprise means Halo trades for social purposes. We are a registered charity and 'not for profit' organisation, with no shareholders.

The money we make is ploughed back into the facilities.

Would be good and convenient for the gym to stay open till 9.30 /10.00 pre covid hours as many people would like to do a work out after a shift and closing at 9 is to early especially as it’s a high price per month

Thank you for your comments. It is really appreciated. We have a technical issue with showers which we are working tirelessly to try and fix the issue. It is not a quick solve and our technical team have been working long hours to fix the issue. Once they are back up and running we will notify users. Thank you for your patience during this time. My star rating would be significantly higher if it was not for the lack of basic hygiene and cleanliness of certain parts of the facilities. Firstly the positives: The gym team are brilliant. exceptionally friendly and welcoming and available to ask for help and advice. The gym manager, Nathan is approachable and responsive to requests and ensures that gym equipment is maintained with regular replacement of worn pads etc. On the whole, the gym itself is kept clean, but some areas need closer attention to detail, in particular, the wide shelving by the windows, which although difficult to access can get dusty and accumulates litter. Some gym equipment needs deep cleaning to remove accumulated dust through high usage. The main issue I encounter as a 5 X a week user of the gym is the inadequate and infrequent cleaning of the men's changing/locker room and in particular the showers which I can assure you are not cleaned properly every day. An example of this is when I saw, on one occasion a used plaster - which was on the drain of the shower floor for 3 consecutive days. It is not unusual to see the same dirt on the shower floor and walls for several days running. The single sink is not cleaned thoroughly daily as I see the same staining from prior usage, again for several days running. The shower area will often have a very unpleasant smell from lack of cleaning and high usage. The cubical walls are often filthy with the same dirt and body hair stuck on the shower walls, again for several days The gym lockers are not cleaned. Some areas of the locker room floor under the benches are thick with dust and the whole area is in desperate need of a deep clean and investment in regular cleaning. These simple changes will make a significant positive difference to the gym. Lastly, removing the blue paper towel dispensers - for whatever reason will not encourage users to wipe down equipment after they have finished a workout. They are not refilled often enough as it is as they are often empty. Take the positives, celebrate them but please see to the criticisms - they are an easy fix for happier gym users.

Many machines are broken. Floors muddy in the gym. Disgusting bathrooms. Lockers broken. Showers smell of urine and often do not work. Floors dirty in changing room. Would not want to take my shoes off.

Always a queue when waiting to scan in. Either not enough staff or staff are all dealing with the same problem or talking to each other instead of making an effort to assist customers waiting. The last 3/4 times I have taken my children swimming I have received an email stating I must pay for their job attendance, even though we always attended and never received a response back via email when questioning it. Always had to go in and request a receptionist to take the debt off my account. Changing facilities are poor, puddles of water in the family changing rooms which are too small. Toilets don’t appear clean. 45 minutes in the pool is not enough at all. Kids are always upset at how short it is. Should be at least an hour. Also gym equipment has taken months to fix, nothing is ever cleaned properly and kit is just lying around causing hazards. Seriously considering cancelling my membership at Halo, especially since the price has increased twice in two years when the standards have dropped!

My main interest at this moment is the pool area. If it the last three weeks the bottom of the pool has been littered with what looks to be foliage debris. I am surprised it has been allowed to remain so long. It is a substantial amount. Monday 5/5/23 the water was very “milky”. Tuesday 7/6/23 the water was disgusting. I got out after 15 minutes because I could no longer “unsee” all the human detritus floating at all levels of the water. It looked like somebody had mangled a jellyfish into tiny pieces snd quite frankly, I do NOT want that in my mouth.

Very standard gym with basic equipment, always very clean. Pointless having the booking in system as it makes it a painful experience everyday when going to the gym, especially when it’s never at full capacity.

The changing rooms don't have any private shower areas for people with out kids and not enough for people with kids. The changing rooms are often dirty. When I go for a swim for fitness session I am uncomfortable with having to walk past all of the staring parents that are there for their kids swim lessons. This place could do with a total revamp, new leisure pool with more slides that don't look like they are about to fall apart. Seating are around the kids pool for parents to watch. Look at the LC2 in Seansea, Cardiff International pool and gym or Alton Tower water park which is not massive but has everything needed for a fun day atbthe pool these places are amazing!

Hi, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We offer five private showers in the building for customer use two which are designed for families but not restricted to single person use. In regards to staring parents id like to imagine they are concentrating on getting children ready for lessons and not staring at you, If you ever feel uncomfortable please let a member of the team know so we can deal with the incident immediately. The places you have suggested look amazing, With Halo being a registered charity its difficult for us to put in as much money as the likes of Alton towers and Cardiff international but i do feel our slide has provided years of fun and can reassure you that the slide is safe. Pool facilities are all good, but however the gym is subpar, quite frankly it lacks everything. Comparing homleigh park to henley bank/brockworth its a real shame the standard isnt as good, no free bench, no barbel, only a smith machine. Dreadful

Pool viewing area was very grubby and it was only 11 in the morning. The slide looked like it needed replacing with brown tape covering one part of it. The staff weren’t welcoming. Looks like it needs a revamp.

Got an ear infection from the pool and now still suffering 9 month on. This is why I hadn’t used my membership very often in the past 9 months

There is very little equipment in the gym for resistance training. They seem to have focused on the cardio-machines many of which are unused at all times when I have visited the gym. There are however, cues that form on the pulley system and smyths machines. There are not even EZ bars for pressing movements, curls etc. This equipment would take up very little space and give other options for patrons while waiting for the two resistance machines in the gym to become free.
