About Halo:

Halo is a registered charity and social enterprise running 22 sport and leisure centres throughout Herefordshire, Bridgend County Borough, Shropshire and Swindon on behalf of the local authorities. We often discuss our status as a social enterprise, but many of our customers are unsure of what it actually means and more importantly, how it benefits them. Being a social enterprise means Halo trades for social purposes. We are a registered charity and 'not for profit' organisation, with no shareholders.

The money we make is ploughed back into the facilities.

“Very clicky. If you like to get on with your workout especially in the morning due to time restriction and just like to get it done this isn't the gym for you. Same faces who think they own it.”

“Apart from the gym it’s self being tiny there is very little equipment, especially free weights and benches. The air con is usually not working and there isn’t even a monitor to watch ( well there is but hasn’t worked for years) one of the mirrors is broken and it just feels very tired and uncared for. I am disabled and limited to what I can cope with and the only machine in the whole gym I could use is an exercise bike which £29 a month to use 1 machine is not good enough of a reason to continue using the gym. It’s a shame because I’ve talked to lots of people in Bromyard who would use the gym if it was larger and better equipped. The staff are all brilliant and very approachable just a shame the place does not do them justice.”

“Very dirty. Grime in the corners of all the screens in the gym and loads of dust / dirt under all the machines too. The monthly fee is too expensive with this in mind - I don’t mind paying more money for a more hygienic environment, but it’s not worth the current fee.”

“Attended the oldies gym several times, found it friendless and very little contact with anybody including the staff. Unfortunately I had to stop going due to my wife going through a spell of I'll health. Not sure I will be able to attend in future”

“I absolutely love coming to halo I go every day but recently the bridgend rec health suite and changing rooms are filthy smells of pee everyone is complaining but nothing being done this morning I actually have to hold my nose getting changed it was that bad which is a shame because when I first opened there were cleaners using bleach and scrubbing everything now I’m debating after complaining 4 times in 2 weeks to use a different sports centre. The self tap drink in the health white round the tap is filthy you go to drinking your looking at black 😪”

“Standards since the Pandemic have severely dropped The floors are dirty, the cubicles smell of Urine, people walk around the pool and changing rooms with outdoor shoes There is no control of fast swimmers who swim in the slow lane (not all of us can swim fast, we may not be confident swimmers or like myself suffer with low back and hip problems The lanes are too narrow for up/down swimmers and often you get whacked by another swimmer, with my problems I get worried incase someone kicks out at hips albeit non intentional”

“Ok, the gym is ok nice and quiet. But it comes at a price, the water cooler water is always warm and taste like plastic, I’ve mentioned it numerous times to the staff member and all they always brush it off saying we’ve asked loads of times for them to fix it and they don’t. What kind of excuse is that. Also the tennis court should be included in the membership it’s not a cheap gym, £30 a month is more expensive than most gyms around. I’m not a happy customer I believe the water cooler especially should be sorted, another thing the vending machine only stocks high fat snacks and high sugar drinks.”

“Poor gym equipment with little choice and many broken machines with no repair after months of wait. Select members of staff are rude and unwelcoming. There was also 2 instances where they had closed the gym and turned off all the lights 1 hour before close. All in all, after using this gym since 2016 - very , very unimpressed. I have now moved to a more affordable option.”

“Too many kids using the gym, unsupervised in groups hogging machines they don’t know how to use. They should have set times. I am unable to get on anything and am limited for time around work shifts. Machines are dirty. Not enough staff there checking who has proper paid access. Anyone can and does walk in and out. It’s very unpleasant there at the moment and I am considering changing gyms.”

“The Centre was Bridgend Rec. The swimming pool gallery was absolutely thilthy!! Also when my child entered the pool area he was asked for a ticket, to which he said I don't have one I wasn't given one. Then he was told he needed a ticket and next time bring the ticket. Not sure if the person was deaf or ignorant, but my child Wasn't given a ticket!!!! Would an adult be treated this way?”

“The app doesn't allow you to book most of the time. There are usually issues with it and I have to go in to the centre to book.by doing this I risk not being able to attend due to activities being fully booked. Swimming sessions are very limited. 45 minutes is not long enough. Many times we are later going in to the pool due to the previous sessions running over. This gives me even less time to swim.”
