About Getting A Medical:

Getting A Medical is a national medical service provider that specialises in driver medicals. Our aim is to offer low cost medicals across all ranges of commercial and non-commercial drivers such as Heavy/Large Goods Vehicles (HGV, LGV), Passenger Carrying Vehicles (PCV), Taxi, Ambulance and the Motor Sport Association (MSA). We have a large spread of locations based around England and Wales and all our locations have facilities for a HGV, LGV, PCV, minibus or trailer driver to attend for their Group 2 medical.

Appalling service, utterly inept. Being put on hold for over an hour, being hung up on. And on several occasions I could barely hear an operator named Nor over the sound of children. Then being lied to that there's been difficulty sending emails to my account which is fully functioning and active. What an awful excuse of an organisation.

Hi David, We apologise that this was your experience. Regarding the email, our system generates confirmation email automatically and upon request we sent out another one. Sometimes these may go to your spam inbox which is the reason why you may not have received it. For your other feedback, we will have a member of our customer care team will give you a call to understand your issues further.

Mix up with paperwork, give my paper work to a different person, Thomson not Thompson. And still waiting over 3 week later to find out my results

Painful process trying to book a medical appointment. Finally managed to get an appointment booked after problems trying to have the paperwork sent to this company. Attended medical and the Dr was very pleasant and professional. Later received letter from DVLA stating the medical will have to be repeated as the paperwork wasn't completed correctly. So now back to struggling for an appointment. This time they have the paperwork but no doctor free to perform the medical. It's a shambles.

Could not get into the building as the receptionist was late, however the doctor was a fantastic friendly professional man.

The so-called doctor I saw was very ignorant, hardly looked at me and wouldn't check the medication that I took with me and told me to put it back in my bag. I didn't get medical and only had my bloods taken, when he had finished with me he didn't even say it was over and just looked at me and said Bye!, I said oh you have done then and he just looked at me, so I stood up and walked out. I was disgusted with the way I was treated.

Over 3 weeks. Still not heard back anything. DVLA say they haven’t had any contact. Nightmare!

I did initially give 5 stars but , I’ve since spoke to the dvla who said they have still not received any paperwork from the doctor , urine sample has been processed by the lab and sent in to dvla so I don’t understand why the paperwork has not been sent it (as it was done on an tablet and should of been sent of electronically

Made an appointment rang up twice to cancel and re arrange a lady said that a booking clerk would ring me back to confirm all, I am still awaiting that call over 5days ago

I can’t believe places like this operate in the UK. Iv see better medical places in Thailand. I would get a Hepatitis shot before I go back again as I have to later this month as they failed to store my bloods correctly so they could not be used as they hemolysed. I’m completely shocked that the DVLA would use a location like this for something of such importance

Thank you for your feedback. We take pride in the venues where all our clinics run, our wigan clinic especially is within a commercial space that is well maintained and meets our standards. We apologise if this wasn't up to your expectations, we've taken your feedback on board. In regards to your sample, these are posted as soon as the clinic is finished but unfortunately, there are factors such as courier services and lab delays that can result in a hemolysed sample.

I made an appointment for my husband which you cancelled as the doctor was unavailable. He missed a later call from you but was unable to get through when he called back. We are awaiting a refund as he has now had to arrange a medical elsewhere.

My arm went black like it looks severely bruised where the doctor took blood from. And my arm aches a week later.everyone who has seen it said it isn't what it should look like.

I must admit it was a little bit farcical and nothing like a medical that I’ve attended before. It consisted of a blood pressure check from a faulty machine and then an eye test. Is that a medical ?

We have been specialising in driver medicals for over 10 years and always conduct our medicals in accordance to the DVLA standards.

One of the problems with the company is that they don't really answer the phone and I had to call them on many occasions. When I did managed to speak to someone the computer booking system was down and when given an appointment the next day it turned out that if I had gone on that appointment the doctor would not have received my paperwork. On the day of my appointment I got lost and the only alternative was to get a taxi to the location as no directions were given by Getting a Medical nor where they clear from an internet search. Furthermore, the office was in the middle of one of two industrial estates and very hidden. If I did need to contact Getting a Medical it would have been hit and miss if I had got through and if I did not make the appointment this would have caused a loss of over £100 for the appointment and a further delay by the DVLA on top of the nearly year long wait already.

Doctor totally incapable of taking a blood sample after stabbing me several times took one which healed after 3 week ,don’t send samples by a recorded signed for service so in may mind totally unprofessional

Hi Andrew, Thank you for taking the time out to leave us a review we really appreciate it. In some instances it takes more than one try to collect a sample, we do apologise if this caused any discomfort. All samples are sent off the same day by a special prepaid service arranged by the lab.

Had my medical refused by my local Licensing Authority due to incomplete medical forms. Left a message with someone at GETTING A Medical and sent a couple of Email's to which nobody had got back to me. They had taken my money and no interest in resolving my issue. Had to rebook a 2nd medical elsewhere. Stay away from this company.

I had no complaint whatsoever about the medical itself, but I have major reservations about 'Getting A Medical'. I was asked to give feedback on the medical, which I did, but also explained partly how I came to that view. I think this is valid. It explains my feelings about being asked to attend; the location, travel arrangements and so on. Much of this is outside the control of Getting A Medical, but my frame of mind when attending matters. I had negative thoughts but still found the process painless and efficient. My view might have been different if all those factors had been different. Now I have found that, far from an opportunity to give my opinion and express my honest thoughts, there are actually right and wrong answers. This is foolish on your part. It has transformed a positive experience into a negative one. It has soured my opinion about Getting A Medical as an organisation, although not of the front line staff. I suspect Getting A Medical of only accepting favourable reviews and, in this instance, favourable reviews that do not contain anything else. My review now is: "Getting A Medical is an organisation with many good staff filling customer-facing roles, but I cannot give a positive endorsement because they appear to be run by bean counters and algorithm fanatics, who expect customers to phrase everything in terms that fit Getting A Medical's answer scheme. This treats people willing to make the effort on providing feedback as idiots, capable only of ticking boxes. "You have, effectively, given me a form asking for qualitative feedback, then told me you wanted quantitative. I have now spent valuable time writing free text when you wanted me to tick boxes, and now more time telling you why this annoyed me. Imagine how much useful information you could have got if you had used my time wisely? "No? Consuder this: you didn't explain what you wanted; you didn't provide a format for that; and you asked me to change my opinion because you didn't like it. "My experience of time at the building in which the medical took place was good. Everything else about Getting A Medical stinks"

In regards to your comment about the process and requirements medical, we have no control over this are the company that simply carry out the medical and do so as instructed by the DVLA and have no influence on this.
