Last week we had Holly in from West End Studios as part of World Book Day celebrations. She worked with 12 classes over two days. Each class thoroughly enjoyed their workshop. Holly developed a lovely rapport with the children, she introduced the texts to the children with enthusiasm. All the chidlren and staff I spoke with throughly enjoyed the seesion of dance and moreover being immersed into a text through dance. May I take the opportunity to thank Holly for a wonderful two days for the whole of our schooo.

Year 3 Teacher: “The woman running the workshop was engaging from the first moment through the door. The children were engrossed with everything she had to say and it was pitched just right for their level. It was completely inclusive and every child was keenly joining in with all the activities. It really brought out their creative side while getting them to really think about characters thoughts, feelings and actions. Their freeze frames were particularly interesting – they had to think carefully about how to present their scene to their audience so that they could interpret what was happening (some fascinating ways of showing inanimate objects flying through the air). Even the children in the class who are vulnerable and known as being anxious were able to engage and participate feeling safe and confident and that was also due to the warm up activities that the woman used to get them all working together and setting the tone for the whole session that was friendly and fun.” Pupils: “I loved it so much!” “We got to make statues of different characters and really think about how they felt and what they were like” “I had a good time with my friends and my whole class” “I liked being able to move my body” “I played parts I would have never thought of playing” (a comment from a boy playing Miss Trunchbull) Year 4: “I liked thinking about how the characters walked and not just what their faces would look like” “We made a whole class scene and we never get to do that!” “I liked that we all did slightly different things that brought the whole book to life” Year 5: “I loved it so much” “I had so much fun” “I liked that we got to think about lots of different characters. I think it will help my writing” “The lady was really lovely!”

Rachel was passionate and enthusiastic which really helped the children engage with the session. The children loved the active storytelling and remembered the story well after the workshop. The session was well planned and executed meaning that all children could assess the session.

We had West End in Schools come to 'bring books to life' for our World Book Day. This was the second time we have used them and we have booked again already for next year. Alex, our session lead, was instrumental in encouraging all children, including those with additional needs, to take part in recreating the chosen story (Where the Wild Things Are) through exoressive dance and movement. This opportunity was actively enjoyed by the children and helped to make our World Book Day special.

Absolutely amazing workshop, yet again. Christy engaged even our most reluctant pupils and they all had a fantastic day. It's amazing what can be achieved in such a short amount of time!

This is the second 'Bringing Books to Life' session we have had. All of our classes had the Pinocchio workshops this time round, and loved it! Every pupil was enaged and enjoyed the workshopps (even our often reluctant older boys!). Thank you for wonderful, engaging sessions, which made World Book Day extra fun!

All classes from Reception to Year 6 had a wonderful time. Katy, the lead from WestEnd, was amazing. Full of energy - she managed the children really well - never giving them a second to be distracted. They enjoyed being the characters in the books and all the drama activities they played. A throughly enjoyable experience for all. Thank you.

Pupils really enjoyed creating freeze frames that represented key events in the text: Where the Wild Things Are. All pupils engaged in the warm up activity which was well led. It was also good that Alex made sure that everyone had a role too so that they were all participating. All pupils enjoyed bringing the story to life and the activities were well-pitched.

Our KS2 childrent thoroughly enjoyed their West End in Schools experience! It really made them think about how to portray certain characters, for example, the question was asked, "How does this character walk? Does he walk using his knees first, his elbows, chest etc.?" Thank you so much for a thoroughly exciting day.

We had a wonderful day of story telling - the children were enthralled! Stacey worked so hard to engage every child, she really caught their imagination and they were fully involved with the dance she taught them. It was brilliant!
