“A Life-Changing Month in Morocco with Volunteering Solutions In August and September of last year, my daughter and I embarked on a month-long volunteering journey with Volunteering Solutions in Rabat, Morocco, teaching English at a local summer school. This experience was nothing short of transformative for both of us. The children, aged between 4 and 11, were incredibly eager to learn and showed immense respect and enthusiasm in the classroom. Their bright smiles and curious minds made every lesson a joy. Working with such a diverse age group in a summer school setting allowed us to adapt our teaching methods and truly connect with each student. A special mention must go to Fatima Zahra, our translator and guide during our time at the school. Her unwavering support, both during school hours and in her personal time, was invaluable. Without her, our experience wouldn't have been as enriching. Her dedication and kindness left a lasting impression on us. Ali, the program coordinator, was also instrumental in ensuring our stay was comfortable and well-organized. From our arrival to our departure, he was always available to assist and guide us, making the transition into Moroccan life seamless. Our weekends were filled with adventures as we explored the vibrant cities of Marrakesh, Fez, Casablanca, Chefchaouen, and Tangier. A highlight was a two-day desert safari, where we camped under the stars—a truly unforgettable experience. The accommodation provided was a traditional Moroccan riad in the heart of Rabat's Medina. It was comfortable, and the meals were plentiful and delicious, giving us a genuine taste of Moroccan cuisine. Reflecting on our time in Morocco, I often find myself longing to return. The connections we made, the cultural immersion, and the joy of teaching left an indelible mark on our hearts. “The experience was a real unique opportunity to live in a total different context, a rural city of the inner Ghana, Tamale, based on farming. Life there was different, with not a lot of comforts that we are considered for granted in Europe, but probably it is even the reason why you can live in a more spontaneous way, enjoying the real priorities of the life. The warm and welcoming people and especially children I had the opportunity to meet gave me a priceless human feedback that only if you live personally you can understand. Supporting, brick by brick, the building of the new classroom in the Maltiti girls school, a school for pushing young women to attend school in an area where priorities for the girls are domestic tasks, even fundraising more than 2.000€, it was pure joy, that I could see in their eyes and fed my days, below a very hot sun. Teaching math to them and motivating them on the importance of education was a responsability that has no comparison in my previous work life. Beyond it I saw the rise of the FIRST footbal academy in Tamale, with the aim to support boys with the dream of becoming football players, ensuring they take seriously the school. All in only 5 weeks, a lot of energy and initiatives i am proud I was (and still now from Europe) contributing to, and that all of you can support if you want to live a life-changing experience!”

“I was only at the Volunteering Solutions education center ln Delhi for a week but it will leave a lifelong impression on me. Working with the children in one of the most deprived areas of the city was extremely heartwarming and their energy and happiness is something I will take inspiration from. “Hallo, ich bin Daniela aus Deutschland, 56 Jahre und habe mich für diese unglaublich schöne Erfahrung entschieden. Diese 2 Wochen waren sicherlich keine grosse Zeitspanne, dennoch konnte ich hier in die Kultur eintauchen, das Land und seine Leute kennenlernen, viele schöne Plätze besuchen wie Macchu Picchu und andere archäologische Orte und das wichtigste ist, dass ich in der Klinik so viel gelernt habe. Ich bin nach einiger Zeit in den Rythmus meiner peruanischen Kollegen angekommen und konnte wirklich helfen. Es ist ein gegenseitiges Lernen und Helfen, ein Nehmen und Geben. Man erfährt vom Alltag, von der politischen Situation, familiären Problemen und manchmal erkennt man, dass man doch soviel gemeinsam hat. Ich werde als anderer Mensch zurück fahren, weiser, reicher und glücklicher.”

“I had an incredible experience volunteering in Tamale, and I am so grateful for the opportunity. The local coordinator Fred was nothing short of amazing—supportive, and truly dedicated to making sure everything went smoothly. The community was welcoming, and the Girls Education Program itself was deeply rewarding. I felt like I was truly making a difference and it was an enriching experience that I’ll never forget. However, my experience was tainted by the lack of communication and support from the agency in the UK. Leading up to my trip, there was very little contact or guidance provided. I didn’t feel like there was a clear line of communication, and before I arrived at the project site, there was no one from the agency to provide any in-person support or guidance. I had a call with a lady from Volunteering Solutions because I requested it and I arranged it and the information she had for the project were very limited. It felt like I was left to navigate everything on my own, which was really disappointing given the fact that I was told that the operation department of the agency will be present and involved to my preparation for the upcoming project. The only involvement was through few emails informing me for the next step of the application and follow up my payments. While the local experience was fantastic, the absence of support from the agency made the whole process more difficult than it needed to be. I really want to emphasize on the great effort Fred (the local coordinator) did to make my stay the best it could be in all aspects. I also believe that the lack of communication and awareness from Operation team in UK from Volunteering solution made his work more challenging and it is not fair for him as well. It would be a totally easier job for him if the volunteers are well prepared for the conditions and the demands in general. I hope that in the future, the agency improves in this regard, as I believe volunteers would greatly benefit from stronger communication and support from Volunteering Solution throughout their journey. Overall an unforgettable experience with the warmest people in Tamale and the best local coordinator I have met so far. Thank you Fred, Stanley and Kwabena!”

“Hello !! I partecipated in the Childcare program in Kenya, volunteering at Makimei Children's Home for two months (feb-march) and it has been a life changing experience. I was looking for an experience like this post graduation and as soon as I read about it, I contacted the organization which has promotly replied to all my requests and then guided me through the booking. Also while staying in Kenya they were reaching out to make sure I was ok and it was all going well. When I arrived at Nairobi airport, our local coordinator Joe picked me up and brought me to the volunteer's accomodation, showed me around and the next morning he briefed us on the project and the sorroundings. Joe was always available, for any questions or necesseties. The first day he took us to the shopping centre for grocery shopping, exchanging money, buying sim cards and then to the orphanage, where he introduced us. As part of my volunteering program, I was taking care of kids living in an orphanage just 10 minutes away by Uber. It is a very cheap mean of transport, especially when you are more than one taking it but also a pleasant one because most of the time we would chat with the drivers. At the orphanage we had a routine but it was also quite flexible. We discovered they mostly needed help in the morning (playing with the three/four year olds or cuddling the smaller babies, washing and hanging clothes, preparing the food with Chef, feeding the little ones and changing them) so after we all had lunch we would leave and then had the rest of the afternoon to explore Nairobi or relax at home, which offers a big terrace on roof where you could also sunbathe or exercise. On the weekends I organized Safari's and visits around Nairobi, which has few things to offer. Regarding the accomodation, I was living in Lower Kabete in a six floor building where there are several rooms, with a kitchen, a bathroom and a living room. I had the chance to share my room for a few weeks but also to be alone. We were provided with a fresh continental breakfast and mostly typical kenyan dishes for dinner by Joseph, our housecarer. He's the best and a very hardworking man. Over all my experience was wonderful, of course it came with some cultural shocks at times but it made me open my eyes on so many things in life and I'm forever grateful. Kenya will always be in my heart as well as those kids smiles which made all my days so much fun and meaningful. Asante Sana !”

“I was looking for a short volunteering program (1 week) to make social impact while travelling abroad and with Volunteering Solutions I found the perfect option for me. Before booking, I first reached out to a Program Advisor (Monica) to gather more info on the program and understand whether the timelines would be feasible for me, since I only had a couple of weeks to prepare everything before leaving, due to work. They were super helpful and available to answer all my questions quickly, completely for free. Once I arrived in Morocco, I was picked up from a local coordinator and briefed on my volunteering project. Ali was really nice, he introduced me to the other teachers and kids at the childcare where I was volunteering and he was always available to provide me with tips and recommendations about local services (e.g. grocery shopping, laundry, etc.) and places to visit. As part of my volunteering program, I had to teach English to kids around 4/5 years old in a childcare located in the Medina of Rabat. The first day I was a little bit confused because I did not know how to communicate with kids, since I do not speak Arabic, and I did not have any material to share with them. However, for the remaining days I prepared some material to teach them words about the four seasons (e.g. I printed some papers for them to color, I drew myself some memo cards to play a game with them to memorize words). The kids were adorable and I was really impressed by their willingness to learn! Regarding the accomodation, I stayed in a cozy Riad (traditional Moroccan dwelling) located in the Medina of Rabat (10/15 minutes by walk from the childcare), where I was provided with a very rich traditional Moroccan breakfast and delicious dinner. Overall, I really enjoyed the program and appreciated the availability and kindness of all the people that I met along the journey (Volunteering Solutions Staff, Local Program Coordinator, childcare personnel, Riad receptionist, etc.). I think it's one of the best ways to learn more about the Moroccan culture and experience how locals live. I just wish I had more time to volunteer, but I will for sure consider again a program from Volunteering Solutions in the future if I have the opportunity.”

“I just returned from a two-week childcare program in Nairobi, Kenya, and my only thought is: I should have stayed longer. The money spent and the long journey itself feel now insignificant compared to the time I shared with the children — it was the most genuine, meaningful, and important of my life. “This is my second trip with Raj, Sahil and Shankar. The three are so welcoming, make you feel safe whilst ensuring you experience the indian culture. The school has a special place in my heart the children are so beautiful greatful And selfless. The food is out of this world and extremly tasty.
