I had an incredible experience volunteering in Tamale, and I am so grateful for the opportunity. The local coordinator Fred was nothing short of amazing—supportive, and truly dedicated to making sure everything went smoothly. The community was welcoming, and the Girls Education Program itself was deeply rewarding. I felt like I was truly making a difference and it was an enriching experience that I’ll never forget. However, my experience was tainted by the lack of communication and support from the agency in the UK. Leading up to my trip, there was very little contact or guidance provided. I didn’t feel like there was a clear line of communication, and before I arrived at the project site, there was no one from the agency to provide any in-person support or guidance. I had a call with a lady from Volunteering Solutions because I requested it and I arranged it and the information she had for the project were very limited. It felt like I was left to navigate everything on my own, which was really disappointing given the fact that I was told that the operation department of the agency will be present and involved to my preparation for the upcoming project. The only involvement was through few emails informing me for the next step of the application and follow up my payments. While the local experience was fantastic, the absence of support from the agency made the whole process more difficult than it needed to be. I really want to emphasize on the great effort Fred (the local coordinator) did to make my stay the best it could be in all aspects. I also believe that the lack of communication and awareness from Operation team in UK from Volunteering solution made his work more challenging and it is not fair for him as well. It would be a totally easier job for him if the volunteers are well prepared for the conditions and the demands in general. I hope that in the future, the agency improves in this regard, as I believe volunteers would greatly benefit from stronger communication and support from Volunteering Solution throughout their journey. Overall an unforgettable experience with the warmest people in Tamale and the best local coordinator I have met so far. Thank you Fred, Stanley and Kwabena!

Dear Evgenia, Thank you for taking the time to share your experiences with us. We’re thrilled to hear about your wonderful time in Tamale and your positive interactions with the local coordinator and the local community—their dedication truly shines through! However, we sincerely apologize for the communication issues you encountered prior to your trip. We strive for strong support and guidance for our volunteers and regret that we fell short in this instance. Your feedback about the clarity of communication from the our office is invaluable, and we’ll certainly address this internally to ensure that future volunteers receive the comprehensive support they deserve. We appreciate your understanding that Fred’s efforts were commendable despite these challenges, and we will work to improve our processes to better equip both our volunteers and local coordinators. Thank you for your constructive suggestions, and we hope to uphold the wonderful spirit of Tamale in all that we do. Wishing you all the best on your future endeavors, and thank you once again for your insights! Warm regards, Team Volunteering Solutions

It was well organized and the people in Nairobi were very friendly. But to me it's a big mistery where the money goes we pay. The local hospital and the orphanage I saw don't see any cent of it. I was at the Tigoni hospital near Limuru. And it was every day a 40 min ride back and forth. First of all we lost time by that and after 2 weeks we spent 90 $ only for taxi. I think that's cheeky. The organization could have paid for that, since we paid so much in the first place to come. And since we're volunteers and don't get paid I think it's even more questionable that we pay so much. It would be something else if the local hospitals and orphanages would get the money. But they don't get anything and asked us directly if we could buy some soap, towels, etc. I guess I wouldn't recommend this organization.

Dear Moritz, Thank you so much for taking the time to share your feedback and express your experience with Volunteering Solutions. We truly appreciate your honest review however it came as a big surprise for us since only a few days earlier our team had checked in with you about your trip and you mentioned the following, "Everything went fine. I saw a lot of Nairobi and also visited the national park. I spent time in 2 different hospitals which was great. The people are very friendly and Especially the difference in healthcare compared to switzerland was impressive to witness. And I even have a feeling about how it works in smaller and bigger hospitals in Nairobi" Regarding the transportation expenses, we apologize if you felt burdened by the additional costs. However, all participants are informed clearly of the weekly expenses to be in the range of $90-100 for personal expenses and local transport is not covered. We understand that you, as volunteers, dedicate your time and effort without any monetary compensation. Therefore, we completely agree that it is essential for the funds to be utilized efficiently and directly benefit the local communities we aim to support. We do give donations and support to the projects where our volunteers work. Once again, we are grateful for your feedback and the opportunity to improve. If you have any further suggestions or would like to discuss your experience in more detail, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. Your input will help us in making the necessary changes for the betterment of our organization. Thanks Volunteering Solutions Team

My experience was rather interesting in Costa Rica. Our host family mother, Barbara, was wonderful. She provided us with information about turtles. However the program in Costa Rica did not match our expectation that we researched from Volunteering Solutions. Barbara mentioned that there is a true disconnect from the program coordinators and the people of Costa Rica. They do not always receive correct information. We did participate in many service tasks, such as cleaning trash, pulling weeds, and helping with the hactuary. Night patrol was honestly very scary and unsafe with poachers approaching many nights. Due to a family emergency back in the states, we had to leave the program early. However even if there was no emergency we did not feel safe staying much longer. We were very disappointed. During the day there was not much work to do and it was very hot. We were told we would be able to swim in the ocean, play games, and interact with fellow volunteers. None of that happened. My friend Kristen and I were the only volunteers. There was another girl who we met but she was part of a different program and was staying for a month. Her expectations were not met either. I would not recommend this program to anyone. I am very disappointed.

Dear Keara, Thank you so much for taking the time to share your feedback on your experience with Volunteering Solutions in Costa Rica. We appreciate your honesty and value your input. Firstly, we would like to extend our sincere apologies for the disconnect between our program coordinators and the local community in Costa Rica. We truly regret that your expectations were not met and that you did not feel safe staying longer, regardless of the family emergency back home. This is not the experience we want for any of our volunteers. In light of your feedback, we would appreciate it if you could kindly provide us with further details on how we can improve the program in Costa Rica. Your insights are invaluable to us, and we want to make the necessary changes to ensure that future volunteers have a positive and fulfilling experience. Thank you once again for sharing your thoughts, Keara. We are genuinely sorry for any inconvenience caused, and we will take immediate action to rectify the issues you mentioned. If there is anything else you'd like to discuss or any suggestions you have, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. Thanks Team Volunteering Solutions
