Product (Leica builder's level) and speed of delivery were excellent. Low score due to poor security of customers' passwords. Not only did the welcome email include my password in clear text, but this also means the site isn't storing passwords in encrypted form. Have asked the store what they will do to fix this problem, but no reply.

Thank you very much for your product review. We are very sorry for the issue you have experienced with your tape and the pin in the handle should not have come loose and we would be more than happy to take a look at the tape for you. With regards to a brake mechanism, the 50m tape you purchased is classed as a long tape design none of which feature auto-rewind because the size of the spring coil required to re-coil the tape would have to be very large and potentially quite dangerous at the later end of the rewind process as the resistance offered by the shorter length tape decreases. The brake mechanism is designed for use with tapes with a sprung recoil system as found in most shorter pocket tapes. It is needed for two reasons firstly to lock off a tape at the desired length to stop it rewinding automatically and secondly to control the speed of the rewind. As long tapes do not have this recoil system and rely on a manual rewind system; instead, none of the manufacturers fit a brake system to this type of tape. BMI has just updated the tape that you purchased and you received one of the new versions, not the older design which was shown on the website. Bought the item from Tape Store at £22.22, noticed immediately on Amazon that the same item was £15.32...Order confirmation came through at 13:36 and at 13:37 I emailed asking to cancel the order. No reply to email (4 days later) and the item was sent out anyway, so now i'd have to pay to return it. Lesson learnt, try and support an independent and it costs you!

the tape I purchased does not retract & is stiff to pull out unlike the one I purchased last year which was excellent. Teh tape is a 3m Viso BMI 405. I think I need a replacement.

Hi Mr Adair, Thank you for your review and sorry for the delay in coming back to you. We have looked into your comments and indeed the images provided by the manufacturer for the tool you ordered do show magnets on the side. The BMI part number that you ordered however does not however have magnets but we agree that the images do not give this impression. We have amended the images on our site so they accurately reflect the difference between the two models and as will send out today the more expensive magnetic version so you can make use of this feature. As a gesture of goodwill you can also keep the non-magnetic version which was originally shipped. No problem ordering item. Courier service from UPS poor, left a card with a number scribbled on it that I couldn't read and no other information filled in. Checked with both neighbours and they haven't got the item. UPS did not return Friday so I think that I will be chasing around the houses to find out where it is. Pop

on your web site it was clear that if order was placed early in the day next day delivery would be fulfilled. I anticipated this and waited in all day and in fact missed a social occasion in case the delivery came. It did not but arrived the following morning around 10 am (Saturday). Fortunately my wife was in to accept. I was not happy in the circumstances as you can imagine. you must not make promises that cannot be fullfilled

Impossible to get any technical advice from your staff on tape details. They just said that they were only on the reception desk. In the end I had to go the Fisco direct to get the info I needed to complete the purchase.

I placed my order at 1:29pm on Wednesday and paid extra for next day delivery only to not have the order verified until the following day and receipt of my order on Friday. I could find no note on the website advising of 'next day delivery if ordered before XX time'. This was a time pressured item which is why I had elected to use this site over another; I won't be making that mistake again.

Hello Emma, apologies you've had a bad experience with your order. However, I think there has been some sort of misunderstanding here. I personally called your office on the day you placed your order to explain that we had a slight problem with the other that would delay delivery by one day. I left a message for you but didn't receive a response back. Had we heard back back we would've known the order was time critical and could've cancelled it, giving you the opportunity to source your tapes elsewhere in sufficient time. Because we didn't hear back from you we had to assume that you still needed the tapes so dispatched them the very next day as you suggested. As a side note, however, we do make our shipping deadlines clear on every product page, on our delivery page and at the basket/checkout. Hopefully you can see that we made every attempt to get in touch with you at the time of ordering to explain the issue. I have refunded your postage as a gesture of good faith but can assure you that we did try to resolve this at the time of ordering. Hi Tim, I'm truly sorry to hear that you've had an issue with your delivery. We take prompt delivery very seriously indeed, especially when our customers have paid for delivery by a specific time. I've just checked with our courier and it looks like, instead of being delivered on Tuesday, your order was delivered and signed for on Thursday. Whilst we definitely despatched it on the 15th as promised it appears that an issue with the courier caused it to be mis-routed. We have lodged a formal complaint and hope to hear back from them when they re-open on Monday. Ordered on a Friday at approx 10:30am, received a confirmation email stating that you would send another email when dispatched. No email sent but item arrived on Monday. Great I thought and well packed, but it has obviously been in stock a while as the battery is flat and I will purchase another. I would have thought it would have been checked prior to dispatch. Hello Mr. Reed, sincere apologies you have had an issue with your Protimeter. I have checked our records/our email server and we definitely sent you out a shipping confirmation email when your order was shipped. It would seem, therefore, that either your email junk/spam filter has blocked it out or it has simply been undelivered by your/our ISP. in terms of the battery, this forms part of the package and is ready installed within the tool. No retailer would (or really should under the terms of the warranty) assess batteries prior to dispatch. The tool you were sold had only been on our shelves for just over 2 weeks prior to dispatch so age is not the issue as you thought. The Digital Mini that you bought is a fairly new model - it hasn't been out long enough for a battery to degrade in situ. It could simply be that Protimeter have been unlucky enough to purchase a bad batch of batteries. You can check the age of the battery within your tool as there will be a 'best before' date stamped onto it. Whilst it is obviously not good enough that your tool was delivered with a flat battery, we both dispatched and delivered the goods on time and well packaged. We have a very thorough faults/returns policy and take our customers' satisfaction very seriously indeed. Whilst you have our sincere apologies for this I can only say that, had you got in touch with us to inform us of the battery issue earlier, we would've immediately sent you a replacement battery with our apologies. We will send you a new battery with our compliments. Whilst you obviously have our apologies for the battery issue, please can I suggest that you contact any retailers a little earlier to resolve such matters? Service was fine but product wasnt. Bought two tapes. One for myself and the other for a colleague. His lasted two weeks before the tape kinked mine last a little longer before kinking. Were both experienced cabinet makers 50 years experience between us so know how to handle a tape measure. We feel weve wasted 25 quid and are looking for replacement.
