“Applied for a teaching job in Uzbekistan through these. I got the job and was immediately sent the contract which I had to print, read,sign, scan and return within 3 days (1st red flag). Any questions I asked in relation to the ambiguity in the paper work was dismissed as confusion in the language translation. The fundamental question was about paid holidays, which were one of the benefits mentioned in their advert. After several emails trying to get a straight answer (and many red flags flying in my face), I did manage to get an answer, but only through sheer persistence. The holidays are only paid if you actually work them - all of them. Which means being in the school doing other tasks while the kids are on holiday. So no holidays for the whole year unless you want your pay cut, but for me it was the deciet. I wouldn't go near this outfit again myself and I would recommend the same for anyone else.”

For context: this is a placement on Uzbekistan's national English reform programme, run by the Ministry of Public Education. Our role is to provide free application and placement support. The employment contract, including the return deadline, the salary and the holiday arrangements, is issued and set by the Ministry and the host school. These are not terms we write or are able to change, and we are always upfront about that. We send every candidate the full contract before they commit, for one simple reason: so you can read each clause and decide for yourself whether the role suits you. That is exactly what happened here. You asked questions, we answered them, and you chose to decline. An offer you were free to read in full and turn down is, respectfully, the opposite of deceit. We do handle a high volume of applications for this cohort, and we aim to answer every query as fully and honestly as we can. To anyone considering it: this is a genuine once-in-a-lifetime chance to be part of a national Ministry of Education initiative, teaching English and helping to transform education across Uzbekistan. Every term is set out in writing so you can make an informed choice, and we would wholeheartedly encourage you to take it. We would love to hear from you!

“The material is very basic. It's not necessary to take this course to understand the subject material. As far as teaching goes, practical expeeience is still most important.”

“I looked forward to engaging other cultures through TEFL and gaining more skills particularly social, presenting with confidence and interpersonal skills other than sharing English. My experience thus far is, if an applicant does not have a passport from Canada, USA, United Kingdom, Ireland, South Africa, Australia or New Zealand you are automatically rejected as an applicant for any and many English teaching jobs. I am from Saint Lucia (the Caribbean), resident in Saint Lucia. Even while in England, I was automatically rejected from many opportunities to broaden my horizons while simultaneously sharing. Taking up this course has been nothing but a waste of time, energy, effort and money.”
