“I tried tastesmiths with optimism as I love the idea of how it works but I honestly thought it was a bit meh. Firstly I followed the recipie to a tee and on both occasions the curry ended up tasting very watery, the second of which to the point where I couldnt eat it. The second issue I have is the fact the recipie is written so that you cant make it your self. "Add bag 1 to mix" doesnt tell me anything past that If I want to make them again I have to buy them again. Good for a novelty present but unless it changed, not much else.”

“A good selection of herbs/spices etc. Unfortunately, as someone who cooks a lot, I found it just as long to prepare the dishes as if I had bought the ingredients locally. I bought the Indian street food selection and each dish had different timings which was a bit of a juggle. Other brands come ready prepped for about the same price. They are just as fresh tasting but quicker to use.”

“I quite enjoyed the six different packs I bought but despite following the recipes to the letter, I found some of them very similar tasting. I'm not sure if it's because I went for the hottest chili option but only the Makhani stood out. I will order another half dozen and vary the recipes.”

“Great idea but a bit pricey considering you need to supply so many of the more costly recipe ingredients yourself. But the recipes are tasty. Would be cheaper to just buy the spices in a shop.”

Our kits are designed as an introduction to scratch cooking curries, the extra little extra expense on top of the cost of the spices covers recipe development and the convenience of not having to source the harder to find herbs and spices. “Overall I was disappointed with Tastesmiths as I didn't feel that the product lived up to expectations of creating more authentically flavoured meals. The ingredients supplied were readily available in most small supermarkets and even when following the instructions meticulously, the end result was not really any different to cheap packet alternatives. Also, I had a missing ingredient in one of my pouches which was frustrating as I could not make the meal I'd planned that evening - although it was replaced promptly with no quibbles.”

“The curry's were ok at best. Several of them tasted exactly the same. Didn't think it was anything you couldn't make fairly easily from online recipes. Many of the ingredients don't freeze well. Won't be buying again.”

We suggest when freezing the kits, you do not defrost them before use - this avoids some of the items going 'soggy' and may have resolved the issue you had.

We find our 'Heat Guide' which comes with each kit is usually very accurate when tailoring the curries for mild/medium/hot. When tasting the dish before serving, if too hot, adding items like cream, or natural yoghurt can temper the spice of the dish for future reference.

“Fast delivery, looks great but not as expected. I’ve tried the jerk chicken and Makhai curry, a lot of work which is fine but not as great flavours as I was hoping. The jerk doesn’t taste like real Jamaican jerk chicken and the curry was good but no where as good as a take away. A supermarket sauce is equally as flavoursome- shame I had high hopes”
