Lovely cottage in a pretty village. The down stairs bathroom was the only down side.

I did not get the cottage i had booked as it had been double booked , I was then given a property 15 miles inland and not next to beach as i wanted . Having tried on many occasions to speak to someone at Sykes I have found this to be virtually impossible and having complained through thier online and email system I have had verry little to no responce . The holiday cost me £500 which I guess I have lost my advice to anybody would be to be verry carefull booking with Sykes as they are not aproachable should anything go wrong . I do not expect this review will go public , or I will get any responce , but please be sure i will take any oportunity I can to make people aware of my dealings with Sykes and how helpfull they have not been.

This was our second visit to Cliffe Cottage and we had a lovely time again. The cottage is very comfortable, has all the amenities you might need and is perfectly situated to enjoy Lewes and the wonderful South Downs. The biscuits and prosecco welcome pack and the lovely fresh flowers were such a treat on our arrival. We hope to visit again soon.

We had a fantastic holiday here , the welcome food package was a lovely surprise. The castle and grounds are stunning and the small pool was a huge hit with my kids who basically had it to themselves most days, our dog had plenty of space to play ball outside on the sweeping lawn , the apartment is very spacious, would definitely recommend, also the pub 5 minutes walk away is worth a few meals too.

On arrival, the cottage was warm and a generous welcome basket left. The kitchen was well stocked with everything you'd need, although a spare cupboard for food would've been handy. The exposed fireplace is very attractive, although for someone with a very sensitive nose it does come at a cost, with a certain smell that accompanies it. Mixing that with the doggie smell you unfortunately get with properies that allow pets, it's not an ideal combination (maybe the furnishings/blankets could do with a wash to try to resolve that.) I don't think it was the best idea to try and fit in a second bedroom. Even as a solo traveller, the upstairs was small. I made it more tolerable by using the bunk bedroom as a clothes/baggage store and pushing the main bed to one side to be able to move around it without bashing legs on the radiator. Having to go downstairs to use the bathroom isn't an ideal feature if you are of the age where night time visits are required! The stairs are also steep, windy and no handrail at the top, so that needs to be considered by guests who have issues with mobility. I personally think it would have been much better to have a roomier bedroom and an en-suite upstairs with a sofa bed in the lounge to still sleep 3-4. The cottage is in a quiet area, although clearly not very affluent. Net curtains wouldn't go amiss in the lounge, as the pavement outside seems to be a frequently used thoroughfare. The location is good though, a short walk to the centre with lots close by. I can recommend the fish and chips from Paul's Plaice, which is only about 6 minutes walk. I was reliant on public transport and took a bus towards Shepton Mallet to Nunney, a pretty little village with a castle. There are also frequent buses to Bath. The D2x has less stops and was actually quicker to do than by train, and only £3 per trip. The first Sunday of the month is a market day, which was insanely busy. There are lots of nice pubs. The George Hotel and Granary did a nice Sunday roast. The Archangel has lots of 'nooks' and a open fire. If you're a beer fan, Palmer Street Bottle has a lovely selection. There are lots of walking options. The museum is free to visit, as is St John the Baptist Church, with just voluntary donations suggested. All in all, this was a cosy, well-equipped property that was suited to me as a solo traveller in a beautiful area of the country.

We have used them for several years and have always found that their properties have been carefully researched. Whilst being a bit on the expensive side they are always good quality.

I've used Sykes cottages for many years but I may well not be doing so in the future , the reason is because to get my £40 off my next holiday I have to have the 'Bloom' APP which I am unable to do .I am sick of everything being made more complecated because of technology .
