“I had a good experience booking a holiday home in Wales with Sykes Cottages. It was a bit frustrating that the booking on the website did not work - I went through several pages filling out information on;ly to get to the last page where I was not able to fill in my credit card information. Once I had reached an individual at Sykes by phone everything went smoothly but the website booking process was a big waste of time.”
“Seaworthy was a very comfortable and well equipped place to stay. Very nice bedding, towels etc. Good seating in the garden to enjoy the lovely views. The room for the dogs was very good with direct access to outside. Although it is advertised as dog friendly there is no provision for the dog Pooh at the property.
On the surface the house was clean but a bit of extra cleaning is needed, cobwebs and dusting of window sills and ornaments. The cutlery draw needs to be sorted and cleaned as some items were dirty. Some of the glasses and plates were chipped and need to be removed. The orange blanket in the lower TV room needs a wash as it had pet hair on it! Some of the fixtures and fittings are a bit tired especially in the bedrooms and some of the paintwork needs a refresh.
Ideally an earlier check in of three pm and a slightly later check out of 10.00 am would be better.
We hope the these comments will be helpful as in general we had a lovely holiday.”
“Very pleased with Sykes Cottages with an excellent response with our exact location of where we wanted to go but the website is not the easiest one to negotiate but got there in the end.”
“This is an amazing location, and also had very thoughtfully laidout facilities which made our stay nice and easy. Great mix of a forest-by-the-sea, the children had a great we plan to return soon.”
“I booked the coach house in nenagh and paid in full.
Now the coach house is temporarily closed and not taking calls .
Sykes will not take emails and I am at a loss of money .
Very poor service....”
“The majority of Sykes cottages I have stayed at (About 15), have been very good, occasionally average, and a couple have been absolutely excellent. Sometimes the process of finding the right place on the website can be confusing and haphazard, but once found, the booking procedure is fine.”
“Book House is excellently located for visiting anywhere on Whitby’s east side, and just a minute’s walk from the swing-bridge to reach the rest of the town’s many attractions, although the property is inevitably noisy due to late-night revellers and early-morning deliveries/refuse collection in Church Street. The room layout is wonderfully quirky, spread over three floors and the provision of two wash-rooms was really appreciated, as were the really good shower and comfortable beds. The initial provision of only one external door key restricted how we three individuals came and went, but this was rectified by the supply of additional keys on the second day of our stay.
On the downside, a degree of dampness was noticeable, particularly in the internal cloakroom due to its non-functioning extract fan. Earlier rain ingress from roof level had caused ceiling stains in the rear bedroom, which will hopefully by now have been rectified. A repayment of a percentage of the booking cost by way of compensation was swiftly made and appreciated.
We were genuinely worried by the paucity of emergency escape provision, with no fire-doors onto escape routes – and no door at all to the kitchen/diner – and dead-locked doors both back and front without quick-release thumb-turns. We were also disappointed by the lack of food-wate or glass, plastic and card recycling at the property, but overall our eight-night stay at Book House was comfortable and enjoyable.”
“We have been using Sykes cottages for over 10 to 15 years and never had any trouble with booking the cottages, the agent we speak to are all ways very knowledge about the cottages and very polite, and easy to book a cottage.”
“We had such a lovely stay. Ann the host was very welcoming and friendly. The cottage has everything you need and more. An amazing generous welcome basket was delicious. The beds and bedding were super comfortable. The location was stunning with the mountains and the peaceful location to the back of the cottage. You don't really notice the road much to the front. We couldn't ask for a better stay. We didn't want to leave. Perfect base to explore the Scottish Highlands. Thank you so much 😊”
“Booked a cottage but unfortunately ( a senior moment) booked the wrong dates.
To change dates was a major operation. Dates changed on the same day as booked was done by the old fashioned method, by phone. It took two hours.
Have used sykes for many years, this just a computer blip.
It would be nice to have a phone number for making changes.”
“Lovely & very comfortable house. Very clean and it has lovely views to enjoy from the garden. For a bunch of middle aged people with dodgy backs, we appreciated the firm(ish) matresses! The welcome gift was very kind as well. Thanks for having us!”
“Lovely cottage, well equipped and nicely secluded. Had a great week. Dissapointed there was no welcome pack eg fresh milk for a brew. Would book again,”
“We’ve had really good experiences with your cottage’s so far, I’m afraid the last one wasn’t as good. Given the feedback in grave I thought I might have at least had word back from you”
