Arrived at apartment after 5 hour drive the property was very dirty and smelled. The problem is as everyone else is reporting the dreadful ‘service’ from Sykes. Hard to get through to them. Hiding behind terms and conditions. Failing to provide proper customer support. They said they would contact owner as our contract is with them, but owners out of country so can’t help. We didn’t stay and will now start process to recover £700 cost from property owner. Sykes need to be referred to media and all correspondents on this site should write to newspapers and TV Rip Off Britain

Booked a holiday with Sykes a few weeks ago and now have a slight change in circumstances. Want to query with the owner this is ok but totally unable to contact Sykes by phone. I've tried messaging on WhatsApp, ringing a load of different telephone numbers and amending thru the website. All to no avail at all. I have used Sykes so many times but never, ever agin. Absolutely dreadful customer service.

Lost cost deposit and cancellation what a joke, I booked a holiday had to cancel a few days after booking more than 15 weeks until holiday doesn't explain anywhere that if you have to cancel you will be charged a substantial amount of money, what sort of company charges over & £200 on a holiday that's £500, also tried to call, email and via chat with no response what a joke.

This is the worst most dishonest company I have ever come across in that they pretend to have a way to contact them but they don't. The phone numbers simply refer you to their website which only allows for options which in one way or another means you have to pay up. They do not have a customer service at all. They are not Regulated by either the ABTA or ATOL. I will be reporting them to the Ombudsman as they are obliged to have a complaints system which they don't so you can't even make a complaint to them. The single star is because you have to give them a star to leave a review. Says it all.

the poor reviews posted here are a surprise. we have had wonderful on line support from Sykes. we read that one room was cold and we quickly heard new owners have done central heating.Hope the heated floors still work.

I have had issues before trying to contact by phone is nearly impossible, once you have made a booking they do not want to know,also beware of secure your holiday now for £20 I recently paid the £20 and unfortunately due to unforseen circumstances my friends were unable to contribute and I couldn't pay Sykes then took over £800 as a penalty for not being able to pay the full fee it would have been nice to be contacted to see if another arrangement could gave been made basically it's a legal scam.

Only given 1 star as 0 aren't allowed. Terrible company, the most useless customer service possible. They don't give a stuff about their paying customers! Would highly recommend you DO NOT use this company, if anything goes wrong you are basically stuffed!

Booked via booking.com drive 8 hours to the cottage location to then be told that the booking had been cancelled due to an error on booking.com side. So I drove the further 20 minutes to the cottage location to then be told by the owner that the cottage hasn’t been w and that they don’t accept emergency bookings yet it’s booked for Saturday to Friday as to book Friday to Friday it was £350 more than Saturday to Friday! I phoned skys holiday cottages about the situation bare in mind it is the bank holiday and I have just driven 8 hours to get here they said they will issue a refund that will be with me beteeen 3-5 working days. So now I’m stuck 8 hours from home and cannot get any accommodation being bank holiday weekend and still out of pocket for the full amount pre paid. Full refund should be with us in 3-5 working days but what about the fuel spent on the way down and back? I’m seeking further advice for compensation for that too! Great start to mine and my Darling wife’s honeymoon looks like we’re sleeping in the car tonight and driving back home tomorrow. Absolute shambles!

Firstly I never put a bad review on any sites before. We’ve stayed in Sykes cottages before & have always had nice holidays. We booked a cottage in the Lakes for our anniversary. On arrival the toilet wasn’t working, I emailed them & rang the emergency line & left a message. Nobody returned our call. I phoned the next day & they arranged for a plumber. He came & made a temporary repair, with a promise of returning & a full repair. The temporary repair worked about every 4 flushes, the rest of the time we had to use a bucket of water to clear toilet. I’ve contacted Sykes costumer services 3 times since our return, who’ve not even sent a cursory apology.

Terrible company, booked a holiday yesterday through booking . Com. Cottage discrption states ‘Pets’ allowed. Confirmation comes through from Sykes holiday cottages stating 1 pet only. We needed to cancel which they won’t honour. So we’ve lost £728. At time of booking we were unaware that it was through Sykes holiday cottages. Sykes state that we should have read their terms and conditions. How would we have known that being that we booked through booking . Com. Ive spoken to four different people thats when they actually answer the phone. Their whatap chat which is their preferred method of communication never respond, I they have no empathy and dont deserve business even their CEO didnt bother responding

A real rip off as booking fee is NOT as it sounds but a percentage of holiday cost! Other companies charge £20 - £40 per booking regardless of holiday accommodation cost . Sykes also charge £5 admin fee ! WHY ???

"Le Barnes and Sons" LAKE VIEW COTTAGE OWNERS ROXHILL MANOR: They take advantage of young people and make up derogatory lies to the Sykes so they can further extort another £107 on top of their already high costs of rent. With ZERO proof when asked for it, only to send over an invoice with very expensive items (did not exist prior) and claim we recover cost of damages. The cutlery was also filthy. Did not once send over any emails showing damages or call me to discuss but straight away sent invoice. The good housekeeping bond is not "incase of" it "is", just remember that £100 you sign into they will try any angle to take. Did not formally greet us but rather spoke to me through the door just as I was mid way through my shower (zero social cues proceeded to talk and talk) utter con jobs. Had no choice to dispute the bond either constantly threatened to take me to small claims court. We are 18 and left the place spotless, you should be disgusted with yourself left a horrible dampener on the holiday.

We had booked a week in North Yorkshire for the upcoming September (2024). However, my wife suffered a serious stroke a while back and has deteriorated steadily to the point that I am now her full time carer, helping her dress, toilet, feed, medicate etc. She can't walk more than 5 yards and has to use a stroller and mobility scooter. With all this taken into account, we both felt that the upcoming holiday would be a washout, so decided to cancel. Contacted Sykes who were totally hapless. Even though I'd paid in full at the time of booking AND taken out cancellation insurance, when I tried to cancel, I was shown the pop-up that I am not entitled to a penny! Why??? I contacted the insurance company direct who then sent me a 'claim form'! It was 8 pages long and full of bumff! Question after question unrelated to why I wanted to cancel! In the end I gave up trying and will now have to accept that I will probably lose £709 paid! I have used Sykes many times over the years but never again! Words of warning!..... don't fall for the 'Insurance scam'!!

Appalling customer service We have used Sykes many times in the past with no problems however our latest booking has been cancelled by Sykes with no explanation and contacting customer service has proved fruitless so far. I noticed that the funds for our holiday which were paid in full have not been reimbursed as yet. Very poor show will not be using this company again.

Torkeld Cottage, Garlieston, Dumfries & Galloway The cottage booked was not clean: the toilet was discoloured and could not be cleaned with bleach, the mattress was extremely stained. There was no way we would have used the bed. The whole place was tired and rather shabby. The garden was secure for our dogs, but the owners five dogs were on the other side of the fence! When we spoke to the owner, he suggested we go home and apply to Sykes for a refund. We contacted Sykes who asked us to take photos which we sent. We then left at 5.30pm - with nowhere to stay and 300 miles from home. Sykes have been no help, closing the complaint within 24 working hours, refusing to consider any form of refund. Needless to say we will not consider using Sykes again.

Awful company to deal with, I will never use again. I have had a massive change in personal circumstances and looked to cancel my holiday asking Sykes for a full or at least partial refund as it was 4 months away that I asked to cancel from attending the cottage, so plenty of time to re-advertise. I then asked if I could change the name on the booking so could at least offer to another couple and the answer was no. A money grabbing, unhelpful company. The phone cuts you off, they never reply to emails and their responses are quite frankly rude and unhelpful. They do not understand your individual circumstances or take these into account. I would really like it if Sykes could reply to my review, or else I will take this further! Awful company. Will never use again or recommend.

Paid the deposit and within the hour had to cancel as one member of our group couldn't make the date - which was by the way over 5 months away until we were due to go - Sykes took the next instalment for the holiday the next date direct from my credit card. You cannot speak to them. The automated phoned system takes you through all the phone options then cuts you off. If you text their message service they don't reply - absolute scammers - I would highly recommend you find a different company to book your holiday with - and use your hard earnt money more wisely. Disgusting service and Company.
