“Always clean and well equipped with good amenities. Visiting instructions and payments are really clear with good reminders. The cottages are homely, comfortable and well decorated. We also find they are dog friendly with secure gardens as described. We have stayed for many years now and have enjoyed our stays.”

“A little gem of a cottage; remote enough to be peaceful but within walking distance of Robin Hood's Bay or a short drive to Whitby etc.
It is clean, cosy, warm and has everything needed for a self catering break. We thoroughly enjoyed our week and would definitely recommend. In fact, we've booked again in October.”
“We have just come back from a week in Sykes cottage. Lovely cottage with all facilities you need. Beds comfy and all very clean. Lovely location, 2 minutes walk from harbour and pubs, restaurants etc. we were also left a little hamper of milk, Cornish biscuits, crisps, drinks and more. Was a lovely touch. Heating was very efficient and water hot. Have booked again for next year.”
“We have been charged for damage to one of the bathrooms which was categorically not us. I queried this and asked for evidence of how we have created the damage. They will not provide evidence and I was basically told that it was tough because the owners want to charge us and they can.
The damage is in an area of the bathroom in the attic room; there were two 6ft adults using this bathroom, and as a previous review has mentioned, the bathroom is not practical due to the beams, and so the area of the damage is not in an easily reachable area.
The welcome book also states that due to the size of the property, they’re unable to do a full clean after each stay and so the damage could well have been missed from a previous occupant.
The lack of cleaning was very apparent. We spilled a drink on the floor as there was no mop in the property we used our own tea towels which then had to be destroyed due to how dirty the floor was.
We stayed at this property in 2024 and loved it, but after this experience with both Sykes and the owner, we’ll use neither again.
We are very disappointed with our experience and would definitely not recommend due to the fact that they can charge you up to £200 for anything they see fit and will just class it as “good housekeeping”.”

“We chose Archie’s to celebrate our Golden Wedding along with our children and grandchildren 6 Adults, 2 children, 1 infant and 2 dogs. The house provided us with every facility, spacious accommodation well equipped kitchen on 3 levels everyone had their own space, the accommodation did not disappoint everyone was catered for. the chef we hired prepared and cooked our celebratory meal in the excellently equipped kitchen and served in the lovely appointed dining room. All the grandchildren played with the numerous toys and activities provided by the owner who have thought of everything. Family walks direct from the house, playground, pubs and eateries all within easy walking distance. Local walks from the doorstep up to Stockghyll Force and beyond. The 3 family cars were redundant and remained on the spacious driveway. The inclement weather was usual for the time of year but the warmth and comfort of Archie’s enveloped us each time we returned back inside.
