“The course environment on Zoom was positive and our tutor was friendly, patient and engaging. I appreciate how she made each of us feel comfortable to share and actively encouraged participation.
Unfortunately, I would not recommend this course if you already have a good or strong understanding of the Civil Service recruitment process.
This course should ideally be marketed toward those either completely new to the Civil Service or job applications in general because much of the material covered is relatively well known.
I was surprised and disappointed that vital elements to include in Civil Service applications - such as the behaviours - were very briefly mentioned in passing, considering that these are the one of main criteria in which you are being assessed!
Many elements of the activities were unnecessarily tedious and almost juvenile for an adult learning group. For example, one task was to identify modes of transport to get you to the interview which involved writing ‘bus, train, tube, walk’ into a box and the route you would take (step by step) from leaving your home to arriving at the office. Activities like these wasted time that could have been spent covering the behaviours, considering the course is 5 days long.
The requirement to find 2 Civil Service jobs also to apply for as part of the course, slowed things down and caused a lot of unnecessary stress. It would have been better to have included non-CS jobs from the outset too as the material covered on how to submit applications ended up (overall) being more applicable to non-CS roles, considering that the behaviours were never explained.
That said, there were many helpful links, feedback on written tasks, downloads and resources that were shared which have been amazing, so thank you!!
You also get permanent access to the EmployabilityPlus platform where you can re-design your CV & cover letters which is great. Strive also offer post course support where you can get further advice on applications you are submitting and there is a jobs board you can look through as well.
Ultimately, the course was nice, but I suggest skipping if you already have good CS application & interview knowledge and experience.”

“I feel I already knew all of the skills that were taught and the sections I wanted more feedback on, such as behaviours and interview responses, were not covered appropriately. I did appreciate the insight into psychometric tests and found reviewing answers as a group through an anonymous poll was very effective.
I wouldve liked feedback specific to my behaviours and competencies, which were barely covered, and all the interview questions I answered to know if what I had written was correct and to a high quality.
I am however, grateful they provide lifetime access to exclusive websites tailored to improve CV's and cover letters and know they provide 121 support after the course which I will try out as that may be more useful to gain feedback on my preferred areas.”
