“I found the 5-day Strive Civil Service Employability course to be a solid and practical programme. It provided a clear overview of the Civil Service recruitment process, with useful focus on Success Profiles, the STAR method, CV tailoring, personal/supporting statements, behaviours, and online test preparation. The inclusion of Health & Safety was also valuable, especially for roles in defence and technical fields.The course was particularly helpful in building confidence and giving structured guidance on how to present skills and experience effectively. I especially appreciated the practical exercises and templates.That said, there were a few areas that could be improved. At times the distinction between a general “personal statement” and a pure “behaviours statement” felt unclear, and some advice (e.g. on presenting varied career histories or older qualifications) was a little vague. A bit more depth or consistency in these areas would have been beneficial.Overall, I would rate the course 7.5/10. It delivers good value, especially for people new to Civil Service applications, and I would recommend it to others looking for a focused introduction to government recruitment.”
“The course deliverables are very good but because it's an intense course can quickly fall behind if your unwell or miss training which gives a bit of anxiety among students otherwise the course is fantastic and you get to connect with some amazing people.
I think maybe for after the last day of the course we should have like a celebration online for students like watching a film relating to the topic we study or if it's in person things like having pizza with a film to make a nice ending to the course as well”

Before attending the course, I did not have a clear understanding of the full application process. I learned the importance of tailoring a CV to each role, carefully scanning job descriptions, and aligning my experience with the specific skills and requirements outlined. The concept of creating a targeted CV has made a significant difference in how I approach applications.
I am especially interested in applying for civil service roles, and previously I felt unsure about their specific recruitment process. The guidance provided during the course has helped clarify this and given me more confidence moving forward.
One area that could be improved is participant interaction. Although there were several people on the course, there was limited opportunity to learn about others’ experiences or backgrounds.
