Wonderful clothes - Woeful staff 29 July 2023 11:00 I’ve just had an experience in Rohan Cambridge which I never expected. I was looking for Bag Shorts in the sale and noticed that some shorts with a 25% off label were priced at £57, reduced from £65. This is a reduction of around 12%. I took these to one of the female assistants who shall remain nameless (more on this later) and pointed out the error. She became quite defensive saying ‘oh, that’s human error. We get a lot of that.’ She confirmed the price at £57. I asked for another size and if they had other colours and the gentleman assistant was quite helpful in searching the stockroom for my size etc. My partner arrived who, in her professional role, knows a thing or two about false advertising. We both advised the staff to remove the 25% off labels to which we got no effective reply. When we looked to see how the label might come off, the shorts were snatched from us and the unnamed assistant (more on this coming soon) said ‘well that has crossed the boundary’ followed by further words implying we were breaking the law or at least unworthy customers. We were both quite shocked at the personal insults, dismissive attitude and snatching of goods. We left the shop without purchasing anything. After discussion we decided that we would complain about the unnamed assistant, and I went back in to ask her name. She started ranting about feeling uncomfortable and us oppressing her and refused to give her name. When I explained why I wanted her name the other, much younger, female assistant joined in and they ganged up on me, making it very clear I had no right to ask for a name. I pointed out I could simply take a photograph of the (still unnamed) assistant and then all hell broke loose, and this time I was very definitely told I was breaking the law. We left - but I do have the photo. As we left, the unnamed assistant said ‘I had a feeling about you from the moment you walked in’. In these days of social media, such abysmal customer service should not exist, and Rohan needs to address it.

Ordered some Pioneer trousers, as they had a good reduced price in the summer sale. Very pleased with the product. Used the free, click and collect service to pick them up at the Rohan store in Manchester. They arrived ahead of the promised date. Clear notification received of their arrival and easy pick up process. Have been a fan and regular customer of Rohan since 1986, especially at sale times.

Excellent company to deal with. The staff on the customer services and sales lines are so helpful. They are so obliging and helpful on sizing and details and a credit to the company. We have been ordering from Rohan for many years and found that quality of the clothing to be first class. Also the prices are really competitive and clothes are stylish.

I've tried to post a one star review using ordinary language directly related to walking specific clothing which they refuse to publish and only admit this when asked but don't explain. Customers have a right to post disappointment, otherwise what is the point of having a review?

Hi I recently bought a Kendal jacket having previously owned 3 hilltop jackets. I found the prestuds up the front a bit of a fiddle and prepare the velcro fastening.

I find it difficult to write this review. I first visited a Rohan shop in the '70s whilst holidaying in the Dales with my wife and young family. This was the original and only at that time, in Long Preston, when Paul and Sarah Howcroft were there and physically in the shop and serving us. I bought a pair of Bags, a classic style that's remained almost unchanged over those fifty years. However, it's sad that my skin has become increasingly intolerant of synthetic fabrics over the intervening years and I can't wear most of your products: my wife still can however. But a gripe that we both have is that even the classic styles keep on getting frequently 'tweaked' - for example the fit of the legs of Bags sometimes narrower and then wider. Buy a pair that are just fine then a couple of years later when you need another pair that fit has been changed and what you bought no longer available. What has occasioned this outburst? It's the Bags cap bought recently. I previously had three Outrider caps, another potential classic, in dark grey, light grey and stone. The crown shape was more roomy, unlike the ubiquitous close-fitting baseball cap style, and the peak foldable. I lost the stone-coloured one not long ago and wanted to buy a replacement. No longer available, so I bought the Bags cap instead which I'm really not that keen on. Unisex - I don't have a pony tail, there is only a two-position headband fit adjustment, it seems a closer fit to the crown and the peak is not foldable. There is only one remedy for the ever-changing dictates of fashion - when you've just bought something you really like, go back the following week and buy another. Apologies for the rant. I feel I've done Rohan an injustice but for most customers, current and potential, Rohan "does the business", but please do think about retaining those handful of classic styles and try not to tweak them too often. (Concerning the question about delivery below, it was delivered to the local shop in Chelmsford and I collected it from there.)

The zip on my long time owned chinos broke when I was at Lords for a Test Match. Went to First Aid to get a couple of safety pins to make a temporary fix. Got home, found out that you have a repair service. Sent them off, you returned them just over a week later, washed and repaired, post free, £10 all in. What a brilliant service. Needless to say, I will continue to buy Rohan and tell friends!

Ordered the LBD Luna size 14, although normally a 12. Prompt delivery. Only just a little large. Rohan kindly agreed to send a 12 before I returned the other. No problems. Size 12 perfect fit (true to size). £90 well spent it’s simplicity reeks quality. Highly recommended.

All of the staff were very helpful, friendly and also very knowledgeable about the clothing. We bought a gents global long sleeved polo shirt which has sun protection and is still lightweight and easy care. The material feels nice and it is good quality, well made and true to size. Also we lost a cap whilst in the Keswick shop and the staff kindly took the trouble to make sure it was returned to us promptly. A big thank you to them for such excellent service throughout.

At home or away I rarely wear anything other than Rohan trousers. Very recently I ordered a pair online which were not quite what I expected but was able to return them at a Rohan shop without any fuss. So helpful. Pat Barker

I returned a faulty jacket to the Oxford store. Vlad and Kanoko were extremely warm and friendly, providing a 1st class service. Nothing was too much trouble. They arranged a replacement to be sent to my home address. Exceptionally good customer service is rare these days, so thank you for service

Travel globally with my work, to a variety of climates and spend a lot of time outdoors in the field/bush. I use Rohan clothing extensively, shirts (travel), trousers (field) and a lot of merino kit. Unfortunately, there is a huge discrepancy in the quality/sizing of the long sleeve merino tops, if you go true to size it is absolutely skin tight and, annoyingly, the sleeves are often very short. I always go for a size up to have some room and better-fitting, more comfortable sleeves. The long sleeve silver t-shirts are superb with their sizing, if only the merino tops were like these!

I find the quality of Rohan clothing to be a cut above a lot of other brands and the service in their shops and from their customer service team on the 'phone is exemplary. I made an online order that didn't complete because of a problem with the payment system and the customer service team sorted it out for me immediately and organised next day delivery free of charge. Excellent service.

Enjoyed visiting stores in Bristol, Hereford, Shrewsbury and Truro when living nearby. Prefer to shop that way. The catalogue does not do justice to your products. I like to see true colours, feel fabrics, try different sizes to get a good fit and get advice from a knowledgable assistant. I am sorry that you have closed the Truro shop. Other retail outlets never stock your full range.
