“Delivered promptly at stated time. 30-50mm gravel looks great in my front garden and surround to driveway. Just wish I wasn’t left with the wooden pallets to dispose of.”

Many thanks for your review Ralph. I'm pleased to hear you were happy with the cobbles received and the delivery was prompt. We don't have any facility to collect pallets so we normally recommend repurposing them or simply placing a free ad online and people will normally come along to collect these fairly quickly, as there is always demand for used pallets.

Many thanks for your review Maureen. I'm pleased to hear you were happy with the goods received but note you mentioned there was a lot of Dolomite in one of the bags. I'm not sure how this could happen as the quarry that we purchase the cobbles from purely deal in this product. I wonder if perhaps a bag containing another product spilled into this one during transit? Either way if you do have any issues, please feel free to contact us by phone and we will always be happy to assist.

“Cannot reuse pallets as been painted in bright blue paint which has come off everywhere, other bag delivered on two pallets as one really damaged, which made harder for driver to move. Pleased with the gravel. Driver was outstanding, his driving was perfection in a small road and having to turn with cars parked everywhere, he was polite, friendly, helpful, a credit to the company.”

“Two bulk orders of slate chippings were each delivered on time. Very happy with the look of the product. Very disappointed that ProTurf deliver each plastic jumbo bag on a wooden pallet, which creates a disposal problem for the customer. This is single-use packaging on a grand scale. Surely there is a battery-powered handling truck which can lift the bag (using the bag's sling hooks) off the pallet such that the pallets can be returned to ProTurf and reused.”

Many thanks for taking some time to leave us a review Trevor. I'm pleased to hear you are happy with the product received. All online aggregate companies deliver goods on pallets these days as it's the most cost-effective way to transport heavy goods around the country. It would be lovely if we could have all our pallets returned to be reused, but sadly this is not cost-effective to do. Hi-Ab/Crane deliveries would add several hundred pounds to our prices, and obviously, we aim to ensure our prices are as competitive as possible for our customers in these challenging times where fuel and haulage costs are increasing all the time.

“Order arrived promptly however delivery not ideal - 4 x one tonne bulk bags to kirbside. Ok, I knew that would be the case but not everyone has a farmer for a neighbour who has the machinery to move them so think before ordering. The Scottish boulders included some rocks. Overall very pleased.”

Thanks for your review Christopher. I'm glad to hear you were pleased with the items received. Regarding delivery, most companies now use a pallet service for delivering aggregates, as it helps to keep prices low. Palletways are a kerbside service but they will try to get the pallets as close to where the customer needs them where possible.

“the bags were delivered on pallets, and off the back of a lorry on a sack truck!! surely the weight alone would be over the limit of a person to manoeuvre. one pallet was broken which made things really difficult for the delivery guy. surely bags of this size and weight should be delivered on a lorry with a crane. the product i am very happy with”

Many thanks for your review Sarah. I'm pleased to hear you were happy with the product received. Delivering by pallet is the most cost effective way and that's one of the ways we keep our prices so competitive. It is possible for a driver with a manual pallet truck to move any of our 950kg bulk bags on pallets, on a reasonably smooth, level surface. The pallets we use are designed to take this kind of weight, but due to loading and offloading they can sometimes be damaged in transit. Apologies that one of the pallets was damaged in this instance. Hi-Ab deliveries are usually £150-200, which most customers would not wish to pay, as it would outweigh the cost of the product.

“I perchased 10 bags of Scottish pebbles. Kearin was very helpful on the phone. The access is not great on the job, so they done there best to get it delivered the best way we could. The only thing I would say is that the pebbles look a lot bigger than I expected. We ordered 30-50mm but they look more like 50-70mm. Overall a good job done.”

The grading process at the quarry means that a lot of the cobbles can pass through sideways, so that some of them can be longer. “Pro turf order was ok, but the poor poor delivery this items should be dropped off by crane, not on pallets. it really was a joke being shouted at for the delivery guy because he did not want to move 4 jumbo bags on his own,”

Thanks for your review. I'm sorry you found the delivery side of things to be less than satisfactory. We do use a pallet delivery service and this is how we keep our prices competitive. If we used a Hi-Ab delivery service it would add at least £150.00 to the cost of each order. We do provide pictures and information about the method of delivery on the website at the time of order and again in the confirmation email. As you can appreciate most of our items weigh just under a tonne. Drivers will do their best to deliver pallets as close to where a customer would like them, but sometimes it's physically only possible to deliver kerbside, as per the advice on our website. I'm pleased to hear the items received met your expectations and wish you well with your garden project.

“Did as they said! Ordered 2 bulk bags of top soil, 1 bulk bag of 20-30mm Scottish pebble and some weed control fabric. Ordered late Thursday on the free 2 day service and arrived exactly on the 2nd working day as stated. My only thing that could improve for delivery is, due to the nature of the products, most companies would deliver on HIAB, but these are on pallet which isn't the end of the world but does make it slightly more awkward, regardless the driver from the delivery company was helpful and managed to get the pallets up our dropped curb and onto our driveway even though he only had a small pallet jack, but even the driver did mention that such items they do struggle and should be on HIAB truck. As well the pebbles was slightly larger than i expected, but as they state this is the grading size the pebbles go through and some can be larger. I didn't fully understand and was expecting that MOST would be this size stated but SOME larger, but seems the opposite, the 20-30mm is actually screened out. So in my experience the 20-30mm means that only about 5-10% is actually 20-30mm and the most are 30-50mm, i would make make this clearer to understand on site, but at least i know for next time, regardless the pebbles are still perfectly usable for my project and are of beautiful! Top soil also looks very good quality.”

Hi Gavin. Many thanks for your comprehensive review. Regarding delivery, we keep our costs low due to using a pallet delivery service. Hi-Ab deliveries are generally a lot more expensive to arrange (£150.00+) which most customers wouldn't want to pay. In general it's only builders merchants that use Hi-Ab equipped vehicles. At the time of order, and in the confirmation email, we do include some pictures and information, one of which states we don't use Hi-Abs. As the cobbles are a natural product they can vary in size and shape and when they pass through the grading machine at the quarry, some may pass through sideways, resulting in some larger than expected cobbles going into the bags. We're always happy to send out samples before purchasing large quantities. I'm glad to hear that you were still happy with the cobbles and were able to use them for your project and found the topsoil also met your expectations. We appreciate your feedback.

“ordered some pebbles on a Saturday. got a call on Tuesday (Monday was a BH) to confirm a Thursday delivery , turned up on time excellent value and only £5 p&p. would highly recommend them”

“Great products at competitive prices! Good selection of Scottish Cobbles in 950kgs bag which is more than others! Would have been a 5 star except the delivery instructions were overlooked but nevertheless all round value for money!”

Palletways are a curbside delivery service officially, but they do try to deliver as per customer requests where possible. “I purchased bowling green turf and top soil for my garden project and I am pleased with the purchase/quality. However, I have noticed that some of the turf is different than the bowling green grass, so a little disappointed.”

“I bought pebbles from Proturf several months ago. The product is good, it was delivered on time. But the delivery was made on pallets, it did say to be fair, that you must be on level ground. There is a slight slope at our house, but the load was delivered with a pump truck. The driver and I struggled to move the pallets (approximately 1 tonne in weight. The product should be delivered with an electric pallet truck.f”

The Bulk Bags we send out all meet the pallet network criteria and we have now been informed that your area is now covered with electric pallet pump trucks. “Very pleased with the quality of the turf. Unfortunately Profurf were let down by their delivery agent who failed to deliver on the booked day, despite their tracking info showing the item out for delivery. There was no communication from delivery firm advising of any problems but Proturf customer services were extremely helpful and proactive and ensured delivery was made the following day.”
