“I check your website on a semi regular basis as I intend to purchase the Freehold(943 year left) of my house, when it is the most beneficial time to do it. However, your information(below) confuses me: Re: who can inherit my property taxfree @ £375K plus extra £175K IHT Allowance. a) Child & spouse/Civil Partner b) Grandchild & spouse.C.P. c)Greatgrandchild & spouse/C.P Have rules changed from years ago, when tracing the actual bloodline would be used to ascertain direct descendants?. Surely a spouse or C.P. is not a direct decendant and as such your answer should just be Child, Grandchild,Greatgranchild.”

“Yes. It confirmed what has been known since the 1960's: the principal function of the cavity is to prevent the ingress of rainwater. The book "Principles of Modern Building" published by the Building Research Station, warned of the hazards but the warning was then almost completely ignored by governments. Unfortunately, cavity walls were looked at in isolation rather than as part of the integrity of a house's structure. The problems of cavity and externally applied insulation are the result.”
