“Dropped into the Epsom branch for some timber yesterday at 4pm and was told by the manager that it was a bit late in the day to cut anything! Appalling customer service from manager and staff, foul language in constant use and general loutish behaviour. Forklift driver was also operating the lift and using his mobile phone. It will be a long, long time before I use your Epsom branch again.”

“Dreadful service in Ashford , 50% of staff standing around in branch doing nothing and no one answers the phone, can’t understand how they operate like this”

“I am very grateful to a small group of individuals at Hitchcock & King timber merchants in Fulham,and I must say they have left a lasting impression on me.From the general manager,Paul,to Rupert and Bot in the sales office,and Mr Ali on the shop floor,each of them have been incredibly helpful throughout my experience. However,there are two individuals who deserve special recognition for there exceptional service and knowledge offered to me in person.These seasoned professionals possess a wealth of knowledge about timber products and have consistently treated me with the upmost respect. It is important for the management at Hitchcock & King to recognise that the company’s success is built upon the hard work and dedication of its team members.People like Paul,Rupert,Bot,and Mr Ali,and of course Richie,and Stuart who are the backbone of the organisation,contributing to its growth and reputation.I would also like to acknowledge the hard working guys in the yard who have helped me on occasion with my deliveries. It is clear to me that all the team at Hitchcock & king specifically Richie and Stuart are instrumental in the company’s success,and I do hope that there efforts are acknowledged and appreciated by management. “I ordered C16 sawn treated 22x150mm boards from the Streatham branch to use for outdoor furniture. The boards looked weathered but I'd never purchased this type before so I thought I could clean them up. When I planed the surfaces, within 2 days, black, white and green mould was growing out of the board which means that mould spores are within the timber. When I contacted the branch, I was refused a refund or exchange because I hadn't treated the (brand new already treated C16) planks... The team wasn't rude but I think not fair as I was sold a bad quality product. I maybe should have expected this because when I visited the branch I wasn't given a chance to inspect the wood before the team had cut it and put it in my car... It was very a rushed and unpleasant experience. I've very disappointed and will not be using the company again and recommend other DIYers to shop for wood and products elsewhere. I have attached images of a planed and unplaned plank for reference.”

“Lately discovered Hitchcock in Twickenham and I’m really positively surprised about overall services received. I was a long time Selco and Builder Depot customer but since finding Hitchcock only shopping there. Either delivery or directly from the branch supplies always come in a high quality and best price in town. I’d like to prise the hard work, keen and positive approach of the whole staff at Twickenham. Just name a few: Artur, Craig, Cris, the Governor and the female cherry on the cake which the name I can’t remember unfortunately. I can recommend and I do to all builders in London!”

“I used to use the branch in Ravenscourt park but found the lads who worked in the yard were incredibly rude and unhelpful and would do anything to avoid serving you. On the last occasion I used the place i was shocked when one of the lads asked if I wanted to fight when all I wanted was to get materials, he was very busy showing his mate some video on his phone . I would like to say that two of the lads behind the counter were very helpful and when I got a volly of abuse from the lad in the yard they came out and got the materials. I'm pleased you are sending this survey out as a complaint at the time fell on deaf ears. The shops on the whole are very good and the deliveries are spot on ,but Hitchcock and King need to take a closer look at some of their staff and their attitude to customers.”
