“had to cancel brand new policy which had not started, hastings charged me £20 and said it would refund my policy money but not for 10 days, not very fair.”

Thanks for your review, we're sorry to hear that you're unhappy with the refund.
When you cancel an insurance, we issue the refund on the date that the cancellation comes into effect. If you set the cancellation to come into effect in the future, then the refund would be sent from the day that the policy is cancelled.

“I had an existing policy with Hastings Direct - I part exchanged to a newer vehicle but stayed with Hastings Direct. When I phoned up to cancel the old policy they charged me a £45 cancellation fee even though I was a loyal and returning customer? Apparently I had not followed an exact and mostly hidden protocol on their app! Two phone operators and a complaints manager refused to see reason or be flexible – they did not care that I or my family would never use their Company again – I have been driving for 50 years, I know what appalling customer service looks like especially when it bites you in the wallet!.”

Thanks for your review, we’re sorry to hear you’re unhappy about our fees.
We appreciate no one wants to be charged fees but, like most other insurers, these cover some of our business costs - like the costs of staffing our contact centres, managing your policy, creating and sending documents and maintaining and developing our systems.
We try to keep these in line with everyone else and make it as clear as possible how much these fees are and that they’re non-refundable.
