Web site is very poor , can’t get to where you want to be with ease , try loads of time to make payment but could not do it so gave up

Just wanted to give my praise and thanks to Busi who dealt with my car renewal insurance on the afternoon of Tuesday 30th May. Was chatting to her about my renewal quote and she said she would search for the cheapest deal she could for me. My online renewal had increased significantly from last years. But the phone went dead during the call. I tried ringing back but as I did I saw a missed call had come through. She had tried to ring me back. Then my second mobile phone rang. She had rung me on that when she couldn’t get through. She said their systems had gone down but she would carry on looking for a quote for me and then would ring me back. I though, oh yes, that’s a likely story. But to my shock later on she did ring me back and got me a price cheaper than I had paid last year for the same level of cover. Excellent customer service. Not only got me a great renewal price but made every effort to contact me once we had been cut off. Then did as she promised and ring me back with a cheaper quote. Ten out of ten for her customer service skills. Wish a few more organisations had staff as conscientious as her.

When renewal time come they will send you a new quote that is several hundred pounds than the year before. So obviously you will go for a better deal from elsewhere. They you get an email saying that they will take your money and renew you automatically. The only way to stop this is to phone them up which is a massive waste of time. Took ages on hold. Fortunately, you can spend this time writing scathing reviews to make you feel a little better.

Hello, I'm very sorry for any time spent waiting to reach the call centre. Please note that all policies are due to auto-renew at the point of purchase. Hastings Direct does disclose how to remove the auto-renewal from the policy in the documents that are sent to you and this can be done in the first 11 months of the policy. This can then prevent this entire situation going forward. ~Theo

Terrible organisation. Did not want to re-new my policy, informed Hastings but alas, they still took payment. EVERYTHING can be done online, everything except the refund of money taken in error. Wait time on call was 30 minutes but after 37 minutes, still no reply. Unethical and immoral organiastion.

I was going to give a 5-star review for the past years' experience, but I am so disappointed that after I had renewed my car insurance with another provided saving over £60, Hastings auto-renewed my policy which I requested to cancel in less than 12 hours of renewal. The adviser I spoke to -Zandy tried her best to convince me to stay with Hansting offer a £40 discount and as I didn't want the hassle of cancelling the policy with the new provider I declined the offer and then came the master stroke.. £20 for the arrangement fee for the policy. I had NOT opted for auto-renew and my car insurance was already renewed with another provider 5 days before so how did Hastings renew the policy?

Hello Dipa, I can appreciate the frustration this can cause. In line with the Continuous Insurance Act our policies are due to auto-renew when they are purchased. Hastings Direct does disclose how to remove the auto-renewal from the policy in the documents that are sent to you and this can be done in the first 11 months of the policy. Doing so avoids the risk of the policy renewing at the end of the year. The fees that can be incurred are also disclosed in the documents and before the policy is originally purchased. I'm very sorry if this information wasn't seen and has come as a surprise as a result. ~Theo
