We were fortunate to have a good team of installers led by Florin. They did a sterling job dealing with our requests. Best of all, we had our space ready to use in a week. Looking forward to another garden space with Garden Spaces.

When planning my music studio, I was particularly impressed by the degree of flexibility that Garden Spaces was able to accommodate in the final design. Most other suppliers were only prepared to provide designs based on a regular rectangular floor plan. My requirement was to maximise the available floor area in a garden that is far from a regular shape, with the added complication of having to build around a tree that had to stay in place. They were able to deliver a solution that achieved all these objectives, which has turned out to be everything that I could have hopped for in terms of build quality and workmanship.

We are very pleased with our garden room - it is exactly as we designed it and built quickly despite the high temperatures. Mario and Jonny were polite and kept me informed as the build progressed. My only gripe is why get someone to send me an e'mail telling me he is my contact during the build and then when I tried to get in touch, after several attempts, I finally find out he's on holiday! I think one point of contact from initiating the build to final invoice would have been a LOT easier. Too many cooks........

Thank you for your feedback. We will be discussing how to improve our internal communication levels when our staff are on holiday. We do leave alternative contact details on our out of office emails but we will also now make it a priority in being proactive and inform our clients of any absences and also add this information to voice mails, so clients will always know how and whom to contact within our organisation. After a rocky start, we were very impressed with the professionalism, the attention to detail and pride in the work carried out. We love our garden room which was completed Summer 2020 and the interior is great. However there have been a number of structural issues which suggest that build quality is inferior. Service from Garden Spaces after completion has been very poor, with little to no response to obvious issues with the building. The cladding on the building is badly faded already and will need treatment which is contrary to expectation. So disappointing.

Hello Louise, We are very sorry you are unhappy with your aftersales sevrvice. The timber cladding does need annual oiling to prevent UV degradation and silvering - this is true of any timber exposed to the elements. This was cleary detailed on your order form at time of purchase, and should have been clearly pointed out by our Designer. I see from our records that we have attended back in 2020 to deal with a dropped foundation pile. Unfortunately this can happen on occassionand we have addressed the issue. We now use longer piles to make this element even more robust. We would be happy to discuss any other issues you may have so we can try and address them appropriately. It hasn’t been smooth but the end result looks good. The overall impression left is there are too many separate parties involved making for confusion and inconsistency among them. This management heavy operating model appears to explain some of the cost premium, which isn’t the reason people pay a premium. Despite this everyone does care and wants a positive end result, which ultimately is what matters most. Maybe we were unlucky but the experience we have had would suggest a review of the model to simplify, cut management costs, maintain a single person responsible from end to end.

We we’re very pleased with the initial installation but follow up support has been a pain - issues raised since the build has always taken a long time to resolve and we’re fundamental problems such as trims falling off, doors not closing etc . The initial ones reported after the build in 2014 have been rectified in 2015 but I have now been waiting since Apr 2019 for a subsidence issue and dangerous roof trims falling off … understand that covid hasn’t helped but this was reported way before covid. I started recieving admin responses from Jan this year assuring me it is being scheduled but I am still waiting! Not great after care…

My garden room was built in late 2020 at a cost of approx £35k and initially I was over the moon. The building was stunning and the team that built it were excellent. I left a glowing review and even let potential purchases view my garden office. However since then I've had various issues (doors not square, step trim came away and roof started to come away) that needed aftercare and I have to say that Garden Spaces show very little effort when it comes to customer service for issues after the build. I've had 2 visits from members of their team and neither fixed the issues and now I'm being told there is no one to come and help due to a shortage of workers. Well I bet they are putting up new spaces still!! It smacks off they've had my money and now I can get on with it. It is so dissappointing. I email them most weeks and hear nothing ...so now I'm leaving this review as I've given them plenty of chances to make good.

I contacted Garden spaces to design and build a bespoke garden studio. Pre-sales and initial experience was fine, but upon completion of the build, I had to call them back to adjust the door as it didn't close correctly (why did they do thorough checks before leaving?) Unfortunately after several years we've now noticed the studio appears to be sinking in one corner and also the movement has now prevented the doors from closing correctly, meaning the £20k+ studio is barely usable! Despite numerous attempts to contact them, they refuse to investigate the matter and no longer respond to our calls/emails. The one email we did receive was simply to point out their terms of conditions. Pay close attention to the small print: - the uPVC doors/windows warranty is only 1 year! You need to upgrade to aluminium to get any sort of useful warranty. - they have a generic disclaimer that any movement/subsidence is not their problem, even if the the ground screws they've specified + fitted aren't adequate or correctly sized for the weight of the studio and they take no account of ground conditions (eg clay soil vs loam soil) Please be wary of this company - do your research! It seems other people have had similar issues to myself but on a much larger scale (eg. google "annexespaces dispute") I intend on taking legal action, as Consumer Law takes precedence over unfair contracts. Will try to update the review in the future with my progress...

My experience with Garden Spaces has not been good. They do not accept their mistakes or honour their guarantees. My latest issue is that they tell me a bifold door that will not open is just a maintenance issue and whilst they will Help me with it they can do no more than get to me when they are “ passing “. This is after 5 years of trying to get them to fix it. It has never worked correctly. How can it be right that the bifold door won’t open has never opened properly and Garden spaces refuse to fix it ?

We have returned to Mr. Macdonald some time ago, and totally stripped back the cladding, re-applied cement particle boards, and then re-rendered the entire building with our much improved 3 layer render system. We have also refitted the bifolding doors, so they are working seamlessly. Unfortunately it took us longer than anticipated to effect these repairs/maintenance works mainly due to Covid pressures, even though they did not exceed allowances as detailed in NSBC guidelines or where outside of published warranty terms. Mr Macdonald promised to remove the negative Review if we under took these significant works but post completion he has subsequently reneged on his promise. I guess you just can't please all the people, all of the time - despite best intentions. We hope Mr Macdonald and his wife get years of enjoyment from their Garden Space. Roger Hedges Director
Garden studio built in 2017 - but the floor is now failing and needs major repairs and upgrading. First notified them about the problem in August 2021 and despite agreeing a compromise solution and shared costs re the guarantee/upgraded specification - (although I maintain that not enough care was taken with my requirements when originally commissioned) - I am finding it extremely difficult to get them to arrange a firm date to fix this problem. I was promised a return telephone call today - and of course it never came. It is a shame because the studio itself is good - but beware of ever having to get them to take their after care responsibilities seriously.
