“Requirement: I had a straight stretch of (8) wooden panels and (9) posts supplied and fitted, replacing an existing 30+ year-old fence. The job included removal and disposal of the old fence. Quote: I called to arrange a quote in the last week of May. I had to wait a week for the initial measurement, and the quote then came in the post afterwards (some companies give quote at the site visit). The quote was done at the arranged time and very professionally, and it was a reasonable comparison to three others I'd received. After booking, I had to wait another 8-9 weeks for the fitting (fairly typical in the summer months). The fitting was at the end of August. Fitting: I'd arranged for the fitting to be starting from 8:45-9am, but by 9:30 nobody had arrived or called. After calling the office I was told they were on their way. I had to call again at 10am when still nobody had shown up. They finally arrived at 10:15. After the late arrival (and apology) the two guys were very friendly, listened to my requirements and took them into account with regards to the location being a little awkward to fit working around the trees and roots resulting in very minimal loss to our established garden. Throughout the rest of the day the guys were very professional and the fence was finished by 4pm - a good turnaround. Afterwards: Two weeks after fitting, the fence looks fine, and posts appear generally solid. However, a couple of points could be improved. 1) The panels were fitted about 1-2" lower down than the previous panels meaning the majority of the panels are touching or dipped below the soil level (soil was removed for fitting and filled back against the panels afterwards). This means the panels will be far more susceptible to rotting. To correct this I'm having to remove a lot of soil from the site. 2) The concrete for the posts is all below the soil level and was not angled away from the posts to prevent water from welling around them. Again, the wooden posts will be far more susceptible to rotting as a result of fitting them like this. To correct this I'll have to retrospectively apply extra concrete myself. “Ordered a custom size fence panel to be made. Barnard checked the measurements and described exactly what I needed to ensure the right panel was made. They called me the next day to say it was ready! On collection, they were fast, efficient and all were helpful even offering to carry and load it into the car. Panel is a perfect fit and very good quality (better than the one it replaced from elsewhere!) Would recommend without hesitation.”

“We have had a long front garden separated off with vinyl fencing. We wanted a product that we did not have to maintain in the future. Barnard Fencing provided and fitted the fencing exactly as we requested. It looks great and we are extremely pleased with the outcome. It was expensive, as vinyl is dearer than wood fencing, but well worth it. We are now having the area landscaped and unfortunately John Barnard does not do landscaping, otherwise we would have got them to do that as well. The polite and hard working guys who are on John's team are a credit to him. Thank you.”

“Just had my new garden fence and summerhouse erected in my garden. Looks fantastic. The quality of both the fencing materials and the summerhouse were first class. Chris and Ian the two fitters were polite and very obliging and turned up on time. They tidied up the garden afterwards and took the old fencing away for disposal. Not the cheapest but would definitely recommend to family and friends. Worth the wait. Jillian. Calverton Nottingham.”

“Your company has just completed the fence installation at the side of my house and I just wanted you to know how pleased I am with the job. It turned out to be a more difficult job than it first seemed, with patches of ancient hidden concrete below the surface in some parts, but the two workmen carried on regardless. Even a nest of bees next to the fence in the neighbouring garden did not stop them! I particularly like the way that each of the concrete posts has a pointed top and each one is level with the top of the panels. Many of the fences you see in other peoples gardens look cheap and crude in comparison. The wooden panels themselves are fully treated and look of good quality. All the old fencing and concrete posts were removed and taken away and the workmen even raked the soil and gravel around the base leaving the site neat and tidy. My neighbour is also happy with the appearance from her side. And the price I paid for the job was, in my opinion, very fair. I won’t hesitate recommending Barnard Fencing to anybody else who needs a fence replacing.”

“Overall a disastrous experience! Poor quality panels - split, holes from knots and warped, (to the extent you can see through which means they're not really fit for purpose!). First order delivered was wrong; incorrect panels. The delivery guy (who was actually a fitter) was really apologetic, and said I wasn't the first customer who had had that problem that day! He called the office and arranged for the correct panels to be delivered on the following Tuesday. The delay was really inconvenient but none in stock, so I just had to wait. Next delivery was on the wrong day - when i was at work (and clearly not when i had arranged!) Finally, panels arrived - I was on the way out so didn't have time to check them over. BIG MISTAKE. Second big mistake was paying cash - no recourse! Panels had split, warped, crumbled where knots were - called the office to ask them to exchange.. and then had the WORST CUSTOMER 'SERVICE' EVER EXPERIENCED!!! The answer was a flat 'no' - from Barnard (owner) himself. He said, you've been a 'PAIN IN THE A*SE' and a 'YOUNG UPSTART'! This took me by surprise (not exactly young!), so I asked exactly how old do you think I am?! He then apparently 'didn't care', and proceeded to RANT about me having 'DESIGNS ABOVE MY STATION'.. i mean what does that mean it's at home?! I'm a customer who has purchased a sub-standard product and had politely explained why i'd asked for it to be exchanged. He proceeded to lecture me about him being in business 70 years.. etc etc and was incredibly rude and PERSONALLY INSULTING TO ME. I listened in stunned silence. No apology over the repeated inconvenience Barnard Fencing had caused with incorrect deliveries, poor quality panels etc. I like to support local businesses where possible, but experiences like drive me to places like Wickes - at least they respect their customers and actually understand what good customer service is! WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND - particularly if you're a 'young' person and actually care about the quality of product that you purchase!”

“We had over 95 metres of Lincolnshire post and rail stock fencing done by Barnard fencing around the perimeter of our property... as you can see on their website portfolio page. The ground was very tough to work with and the weather was at times dreadful, however they simply continued to work on regardless. The end job is fantastic - everything is exactly as we would have wished and the price for the whole job was excellent. Would definitely recommend Barnard Fencing to anyone who needs a very good quality service at one of the most competitive prices available. Many thanks for your work. Paul”

“I had an eight wooden panel fence with concrete posts and gravel boards erected down the very awkward sloping garden.The two men who carried out the work were excellent, they coped with the problem wiithhout a hitch and I finished up with an immaculate fence. “The guys from Barnard Fencing did an excellent job - from the initial site visit to quote, to finishing the job. They were very pleasant, friendly and professional - even in awful weather. I am very pleased with the new fence and gate they erected. I would definitely recommend them to any of my family and friends, or anyone that needed a fencing contractor.”
