The new name does nothing to inspire confidence in a professional service

Following the merge of Currency Index and A Place in the Sun Currency, we are sorry if the new name doesn't meet everybody's approval. However as primarily we are helping overseas property buyers, for the vast majority of our customers, using a company in the same group as the television show and website of the same name, adds some confidence to what can be a difficult and stressful time. Our service levels and professional team have not changed. We would politely request that this score could be reconsidered, as it is not reflective of any changes in service, and as our staff strive to offer the best customer service in our industry regardless of the name of the company.

I can see that they provide a reasonable service but my disappointment is the application data gathering - why do you need my date of birth and employment status etc. Its put me off in this age of data harvesting.

We are required to gather personal information when people register for our service. This is both to comply with HMRC and FCA regulations on anti money-laundering, where the identity (including date of birth) of all clients must be verified and held by us, and also because once registered, customers are able to order large amounts of currency from us at preferential rates, so we need to know who we are entering into these transactions with! We were not informed we would loose £1,400 of a £2,000 deposit if the vendors pulled out of the sale. If we had been aware of this we would not have pre purchased the currency.

Dear Mrs Hughes, I have checked your transactions and the loss incurred was simply due to market fluctuations between the time of buying your currency, and selling it back when you no longer needed it. While we have every sympathy, unfortunately if you buy any commodity such as a currency, and sell it at a later date, the market value will be different and as such completely outside the control of Currency Index. Disappointed that I had to chase to request a response to my email sent the previous day, this is not the first time either and I received the same excuse that the server was being updated.

We did genuinely have a delay with emails this week due to moving our email services to a new provider, and always advise telephone for instant replies (for example, internet uptime is never 100% in any office), but we take the comment on board and will always try to minimise disruption to our usually very quick service.
