In my opinion, this company are very very bad. HSBC UK bank would not allow us to transfer money they said there was a potential fraud as they had found evidence they were registered as bankrupt when I explained this to PINS they took the money they already had and I lost £400. Be very careful if you are using them for large amounts of money transfer. Don't give them any money you can't afford to lose. There are many other sites that offer better rates.

The representative was very helpful and polite. However, the quotation that was given regarding the pound to euro rate somewhat differed when the transfer actually took place. After speaking with another money transfer company they explained that I had been misled. The actual outcome is that I am several thousand pounds out of pocket. I would advise anyone thinking of using A Place in the Sun Currency, to ask for the rate to be fixed with them in WRITING or be prepared to be ripped off.

We are sorry to hear you were not happy with the rate for a recent exchange. To confirm, we do agree all rates verbally at the time of exchange, taking instruction before going ahead, and then confirm transactions in writing immediately. All our exchange rates are commercial rates, rather than 'tourist' rates, and offer a considerable saving compared to most banks, for most people. Please note that some competitors will also claim to offer 'too good to be true' rates after the event. While it's impossible for us to be aware of every rate offered by thousands of other providers around the world, our rates are generally very competitive, as confirmed by many other reviews; our apologies if you were left with any other impression from this transaction, which is never our intention.

Highly uncompetitive and better rates are available elsewhere. Poor advice by people with limited knowledge.

Firm still stating that my standard british high street bank cheque had not cleared some 10 days after they had presented it (my bank giving it the ok some 9 days ago). As a consequence they have cost me a 2k deposit. There are alternatives, I suggest you try them.

I have a new account. Sent email to request process as intended to transfer a large amount for house purchase, after three days no response. The received email saying account manager was away. So if using this service apparently expect service disruption in the event of your account manager having time off. No continuity in money transactions is not a good look.

I have to say I am not one for negative reviews, however I have been sorely disappointed in my experience with A Place In The Sun Currency. We purchased a property in Spain, (huge financial decision for us) we were called several times whilst we were waiting for the funds offering unbeatable rates (which I did find a little pushy) but once we had the funds we needed to send immediately for completion, we trusted the name as it’s always very nerve wracking handing over such large sums especially to a foreign country. He not only sent the money late and missed the deadline delaying completion for us and causing further issues, also The “Headlining rate that was promised” did not appear.... and the account manager had sent the wrong funds to our solicitor! Even though I had specified the amount on numerous occasions! It was blatantly obvious he was only after his commission, very arrogant and in my opinion inept. Left with a very bad taste in my mouth, after my experience would NEVER consider using again.

TransferWise is much more efficient and you have total control. I wish I had never contacted this company, the set up procedure was too long and cost me money, they told me to use an address I hadn't been at for 7 years, which caused another delay as they couldn't find a footprint, waiting for the rate to come back was also a failed exercise. I would never use this company again, back to TransferWise for me total control and great rates.

Dear Mr Blyth, Sorry that you didn't find our personal service as easy as your online provider. We have different compliance rules to online firms and as such if there was a delay verifying your identity I can only apologise, however we take our regulatory and anti-money laundering regulations very seriously, which is why we encourage clients to register and pass compliance in good time before using the service. We quote live from the market too so I'm not sure why there would have been any delay in quoting rates for you, but if you were dissatisfied I can assure you this is most unusual, as you can see from the virtually uninterrupted list of positive reviews on this site. What went wrong? Erm, you sent an email which was meant for a Ms A Rynne to me (Cormac O'Neill (cpponeill@gmail.com)). That DOES NOT make me believe that your systems/procedures/processes are 100% secure!

The advice I got was weak and unconvincing. I felt pressurised to make a fast decision that resulted in my converting my euros back to sterling way too early. As a consequence I missed out on several thousand pounds. I would never use this company again. I hope you make this comment visible for potential customers to see.

Dear Mr Haithwaite, Thank you for your comments and we are sorry if you feel our service was not of the standard we always strive for. We do not provide advice as such, and with rates extremely volatile due to the forthcoming referendum, it is very hard to predict what rates will do. At the time of this exchange the Pound was strengthening and could easily have continued to do so, given the referendum's influence on exchange rates, but in hindsight the market has instead dropped as the 'Leave' campaign has since gained in popularity. Unfortunately there is no way to pre-empt exchange rate movements at the best of times. Please be assured it makes no difference to us when a transaction is carried out and we do not pressurise clients, unlike many of our competitors who are well known to do so. We do however provide honest opinions and potential outcomes of exchange rate movements in various scenarios, and we apologise if these were misconstrued as anything more than that. The transaction was carried out at a competitive, commercial exchange rate at the time with prompt, efficient onward payment and to that end we trust we have provided some value compared to the rates offered by typical high street banks.
