“I can see that they provide a reasonable service but my disappointment is the application data gathering - why do you need my date of birth and employment status etc. Its put me off in this age of data harvesting.”

We are required to gather personal information when people register for our service. This is both to comply with HMRC and FCA regulations on anti money-laundering, where the identity (including date of birth) of all clients must be verified and held by us, and also because once registered, customers are able to order large amounts of currency from us at preferential rates, so we need to know who we are entering into these transactions with! “Money transfers. I just wanted to write this review for people like me who are by nature cautious… I first heard of A place in the Sun Currency Ltd through looking on A place in the Sun’s website and I ticked a “would like more info on currencies”. I then was contacted by Luke Dyson from A Place in the Sun Currency Ltd. Luke has been great throughout, extremely patient and knowledgeable on the subject, I have fired at him many questions and have been dithering about going ahead or not with my transactions (in my case I had euros to convert back into sterling, and to me it was a lot of money which I did not want to lose by entrusting the wrong company with it…) and Luke was always at the end of the phone for advice and was never pushy at all. The company is fully FCA regulated -firm reference number 790769, and I have checked this, it is correct. When you send them the currencies it is held with all their clients’ funds in segregated accounts. I followed the FCA advice and contacted A place in the sun Currency Ltd through the FCA registered details and asked further confirmation about the protection I would get and got a reply straight away from the Director, Robin Haynes (also mentioned on the FCA website). One point I would make is that if the firm becomes insolvent The Financial Services Compensation Scheme does not cover payment services or e-money payment services, hence why all funds are held in Safeguarded accounts and are legally ringfenced from the business assets and would be returned to the clients in the event of any trading difficulties. I made about 3 transfers in all and although the first one took 24h (I think on large amounts it is all checked – I had to send confirmation of where the funds were coming from for money laundering purposes) all the other transfers happened on the same day. As for costs they take a very small percentage from the interbank exchange rate and this is done to cover the costs of running this service, so you will know at time of making the decision how much converted funds you will get – they email you a currency order. Another plus is that you can “reserve” X amount at that day’s rate and only transfer the money to them a few days later, about 48hours. I was not charged anything else, but always check prior as this could be different for different currencies transactions but in my case Euro into Pounds I had no hidden charges. I hope this helps I would have no hesitation in recommending them and will definitely use A Place in the Sun Currency Ltd again.”

“I recently moved a large amount of Euros from the EU to the UK. APITS currency used an office in Germany for my bank to send my funds to, I then received my money in GBP. This kept my costs to a minimum. This was due to a number of EU countries post Brexit charging significant fees. I did contact other FX companies non of which offered this work around. The price I received was highly competitive, and the service as usual was exceptional. I have not, and would not use any other company.”

“We have just completed the sale of our house in Cyprus. It has been a very stressful 6 months but without the wonderful support of Matthew Boyle it would have been even more stressful. Throughout the whole process he has been there for us whenever we needed help or advice and we cannot thank him enough. “I was dealing with simon Eastman who was brilliant , very transparent and patient with me, helping me to change my Euros to GBP . Simon would always call me when the Euro dropped so I could get a better conversation rate . Definitely would use a place in the sun again .”

“absolutely fantastic service from the team, but i need to specifically mention Lauren who has been very patient, especially when i have mithered, as understandable we are dealing with large sums of money, always courteous, we have been fully informed at every stage where we are up to. One other point, whenever you are dealing with money or transfers you always feel vulnerable but at no point did we ever feel like that with A Place In The Sun Currency. Brilliant Service cannot fault, infact not just very good - EXCELLENT service Janet, Allan & Matthew Taylor”

Their rates are excellent and the service is fantastic - they are extremely quick to respond to queries and to fulfil our orders for currency transfer even at short notice. “We have worked with Matthew Boyle for the past couple of months to secure fund transfers to Portugal towards the purchase of property and banking requirements. Matt was outstanding in his explanation and support of the process. We were obviously very concerned to be dealing with a service we had never used before, as the amounts involved exceeded £500,000. Due to Matt's continued patience with our questions and aiding us in understanding how matters would unfold we have now completed all transfers very successfully and are now in Portugal about to complete on the property we are buying.
