Stamp Howe, situated in the picturesque village of Troutbeck with sensational views across the valley towards Garburn Pass, is a detached four-bedroom property set within its own private grounds.

Formally a banked barn dating back to the early 17th century, this spacious Troutbeck self-catering cottage can accommodate up to 8 guests, which makes it perfect for families or groups of friends to get together plus the location makes it ideal for exploring the Lake District National Park.

There are plenty of fantastic walks right from the doorstep including Wansfell Pike with fabulous views over Windermere towards Coniston and the Langdales, some of which are bridleways, so bring the mountain bikes!

For lovers of real ales and good food, The Mortal Man Inn is located across the road and a mere five-minute walk away is The Queens Head gastro-pub - both are family-friendly and both allow dogs!

Great place to stay very clean location excellent to get around the Lakes we had a problem with the alarm in the night we rang the emergency number and they sorted out straight away and came round the next morning very good service. If I could change anything I would like more things in the games room like a dart board or pool table etc to make more use of the space

Beautiful Lake District cottage, we used this for family and friends. We had 2 families both with young children for 2 of the days and there was plenty of room. Great surrounding walks and of course, the pub over the road is always an added bonus. We would use this cottage and Herwick again.

Stamp Howe provided us with the ideal space for a family get together, and introduce our Australian grand daughter to the wonderful Lake District. The facilities were excellent and everything was available for us to have cosy family meals. Several little niggles arose which the Herdwick team promptly sorted; thank you Adam and Maria. Evenings around the log burner fire with games and laughter will not be forgotten. We would heartily recommend Stamp Howe.

We (6 friends) had a lovely 4 day stay in Stamp Howe., a beautiful old house with very thick walls; spacious, comfortable and well equipped, and with a gorgeous garden overlooking the valley.

We enjoyed 4 nights here and absolutely loved the house, the garden and the two very close pubs. The house is huge, the pictures do not do it justice. The garden has fruit trees and we went at a perfect time to enjoy some plums and apples. There are plenty of rainy day activities in the cottage with table football, plenty of large tvs, games and books. The view across the hills is amazing, especially at sunrise. The two different coffee machines and complimentary bag of local coffee and tea was a nice touch. We will definitely be back. Thanks

Stamp Howe is a lovely, large home in Troutbeck. Beautiful surroundings in a nice cosy home. Plenty of space for multiple couples and baby and dog friendly too. This was our second stay and we enjoyed it very much!

Stamp Howe was a perfect place for our family of four adults, two kids 7-10, one toddler and two dogs to stay. Given the long layout of the property, which featured a playroom at one end and a living room at the other, with a study, dining room and kitchen between them, there was more than enough space for all of us (and probably a few more actually) to be downstairs without feeling like we were living on top of each other. In fact, we didnt really hear the kids in the playroom much. The place is large! Plus, you also have a really big garden, which includes loungers, a bbq and an outdoor table area with a stunning view of the surrounding hills well (which the bright and spacious bedrooms also benefit from). The kitchen is well equipped and there are two bathrooms, one downstairs and the other upstairs. We'd never stayed in Troutbeck before but it's a good base from which to drive to Ullswater over Kirkstone Pass (30 mins) and its between both Windermere (5 mins) and Ambleside (10 mins depending on traffic) as well. We went to Conniston as well which was probably a 15 min drive once we got past Ambleside (which can take a bit longer to get through in the Summer; it's best to travel through Ambleside before 10am). Rydal, Grasmere and Bowness are also very accessible. Definitely a great place to stay, and it's literally a stone's throw away from the Mortal Man pub opposite (although I would also highly recommend the Queens Head for lunch/dinner as well)!
