“This is not reminiscent of lapsang souchong tea. It is a different flavour/scent and doesn’t have the lovely distinctive smoky smell of lapsang. Interesting that the box says it is ‘flavoured’ rather than actually smoked. As others have said the smell is more reminiscent of the smell of pubs in the days when people smoked indoors. Overall the flavour isn’t entirely unpleasant but I will be shopping elsewhere for my lapsang tea.”
“I ordered Lapsang Souchong and got something completely different - packets of Distinctivly Smoky - it was not a patch on Lapsang and should not be sold as a comparison.”
“It's alright, just about drinkable but it's not Lapsang. More bark smoke than wood smoke. It has lost all the subtlety, not quite sledge hammer, but definitely lump hammer to the taste buds. Just why?”
“Why have you changed this tea again. Last time you tried to make a change your customers all told you that it was rubbish and you have done it again! Please bring back the proper smoky Lapsang Souchong. You do not deserve any rating for this change but just to get this posted ill give you one star”
“Why is Twinings ruining its teas? I was devastated when they changed this, from a lovely tea to rubbish. They did the same with the Darjeeling, that went from a high quality tea to the sweepings on the floor. You know something's wrong when they change the packaging. And I used to love their blackcurrant tea, sadly long gone.
Please bring your old tea recipes back! In the meantime, I'll be going to Whittards instead. You might be making more money in the short-term, but ruining yourselves in the long-term; not a good idea for a company that has been around for so long.”
“I have been a loyal Twinnings customer for years, especially of the lapsang souchong variety, but suddenly without warning it has been discontinued. The new replacement (apparently 'inspired' by lapsang souchong) is nothing like the original and tastes stale even when freshly brewed. Thanks for not consulting with your customers first; now what are we meant to expect? The same cheapening up of the other varieties too?”
“Oh no what’s happened! This is not good. Awful taste reminds me of the horrid tea we used to drink at scout camp! I can’t drink this at all. Bring back the real thing again please!”
“Extremely disappointed with this tea. A very unpleasant aftertaste and nothing like lapsang souchong. I will certainly never buy this again. Why oh why have have Twinings done away with something that was so good?”
