“This is an abomination. I have drunk Lapsang Souchong for years and reluctantly felt I must try its successor. It tastes absolutely revolting, addressing a market that simply does not exist. I hate the idea of waste but could not bring myself to swallow more than a few cups before throwing out the rest of the box.”
“Same box design, but now just "inspired by" Lapsang Souchong?
Obviously Twinings are having supply issues again, and I applaud them for finding an alternative.
But, same box design, tricked me into thinking it was Lapsang Souchong. Only after tasting it did I realise something had changed and I noticed the new name.
Sneaky! Very Sneaky!
It does not same the same or as good as the original.
My question though is, what exactly is "smoke flavouring", which makes up 4% of the product?
Is it a natural flavouring or some sort of carcinogenic chemical?”
“I want to give this product No Stars.
I have used Twinnings Lapsang Souchong tea bags for 30 years plus. I couldn't find the regular pack so I bought a pack of these and brewed up. I spat my first taste out and recycled the rest of the pack. The flavour just doesn't work for me at all, it is different and no substitute. Twinings, be inspired and bring back the real thing please.”
“Undrinkable - what a waste of money. Don't buy if you are looking for lapsang souchong - this is a completely joke. I wouldn't even give it one star if zero stars was an option. I'd very much like my money back.”
“Having read many negative reviews of this tea, I really did not expect to like this tea as much as I do but I have to say I love it. I am an Earl Grey tea fan and only recently tried Lapsang Souchong after I had this tea by way of a comparison. I accept that Lapsang Souchong has a more delicate and sophisticated taste but I prefer the rough flavour of this tea. It feels like we have just finished a cigar and are about to have a whiskey at the end of the evening. Reasonably priced and nicely packaged,it may not suit Lapsang fans but for other merd mortals, I sense they will love it just like me!”
“Wow , this is really unpleasant. Have used the original Lapsang for years & this new version is horrible - smells and tastes of chemicals. I’m sure they're using some form of chemical smoke compound to create the flavour rather than actually smoking it. This was the only Twinings blend i could stand so i guess now i wont be spending any money with Twinings. As another commenter mentioned Waitrose still do a half-way decent Lapsang & if you can push the boat out Fortnum & Mason do a really nice Lapsang too for only slightly more cash. I think the sheer number of 1 star reviews show that most people hate this new version. Avoid this rubbish like the plague !”
“Absolute trash. They got rid of the Lapsang & replaced it with this rubbish. Tastes absolutely horrible. Lapsang was the only Twinings tea i could remotely stand as their other blends are pretty poor (with an especially weak & awful Earl Grey) so now i just don't buy any Twinings at all.”
“If I could give this no stars I would. What on earth were you thinking? How you can say this is inspired by Lapsang I don't know, nothing like it at all, trading standards should be having a word. Will not be buying again.”
