“Horrid and NOT Lapsang Souchong
If I could give a negative mark I would.
Having run out of the proper Lapsang twinnings tea, I thought I had purchased some more being in deceptively similar packaging and even including lapsang souchong on the label.
Sadly I have not enjoyed this pretender and this stand in; Distinctly smoky is not reminiscent of lapsang souchong and is by no means a replacement.
The packet of distinctly smoky that I purchased will sit in the cupboard unused and I will gladly pay more for a genuine blend of lapsang.
Please bring back the original even if it requires an increase in price as this rubbish will not be purchased again.”
“I used to drink Lapsang Souchong every afternoon. This new "version" tastes Distinctively Artificial and nothing like the real thing. I am bereft. One teabag used, the rest going in the bin, I'm afraid.”
“How would you feel if you had booked a Porsche as a rental car and they gave you a Trabant with a rear spoiler and a Porsche badge? Knowing my tastes, my wife bought this tea as it comes cunningly disguised in the colour scheme of Lapsang Souchong. How many blenders/ tasters at Twinings resigned over this travesty of a marketing ploy? I threw the pack away and had a cup of honest builder’s tea instead. Absolutely vile.”
“This tea is absolutely awful, my husband bought four boxes expecting it to taste similar to Lapsang, It’s nothing like Lapsang and shouldn’t be marketed as such. After two cups the rest went into the compost bin. Would not recommend.”
“These new tea bags are a sad reflection on the way Twinings has gone I'm afraid. Firstly, you stopped using oil of bergamot in your Earl Grey (just flavouring instead) and now you are trying to get away with some sort of 'fake' lapsang souchong. Whilst it smells farily smokey the resulting tea actually tastes of practically nothing. Do the directors not actually taste a new product before launching it - I'm guessing not or they couldn't possibly have alunched this as a replacement for lapsang. This tasted of stewed, slightly bitter, cardboard. I hope to see the real thing back on the shelves before too long, but I seriously doubt that will happen.”
“I don’t like it. From the first sip there was a plasticy after taste. What have you done Twinings?…produced a faux Lapsang? Not nice. Shan’t be buying it again. Will look for Lapsang proper.”
“Some years ago, at a poetry workshop, I was asked to name my favourite drink: Lapsang Souchon. No question. By comparison, this new blend is a travesty. It’s barely drinkable. You say you had trouble importing the original blend. Why? Is this another Brexit benefit? Loyal Lapsang drinkers deserve a fuller explanation.”
