“Disgusting - why not re-package proper Lapsang as a luxury product and increase the price?
This reminds me of the bits of graphite from a school pencil sharpener. The "flavour" should be enough to render its blenders redundant - it's a breach of the trade descriptions act to imply any link between this stuff and genuine Lapsang Souchong.”
“Totally agree with other reviewers-is unpleasant. As a lapsang souchong lover this is nothing like it. I am so shocked that they would make this, smoke flavoured tea? Surely is enough smoked tea in china to support demand. Feels like a con/should clearly say is not lapsang and uses flavouring- I only hope it's natural flavouring, can't find any data on that. Minor cost saving exercise by T which seems to undermine the brand as untrustworthy and penny pinching to unsuspecting consumers who don't know better. Save a few pennies to use flavouring, they won't notice. Doh. Forgot we love tea, unlike T!”
“Disappointed to say the least - this new blend is unnatural tasting & stains your taste buds with an aftertaste you'll struggle to get rid of. What I really want to know is what exactly was twinings issue importing the old lapsang? I emailed their CS team & specifically asked not to get the same stock reply as it's shown on all the reviews below - "issues importing this blend so it has been discontinued". They replied & told me they'd had trouble importing the blend & so it had been discontinued. No words.”
“Disgusting so-called replacement for the previously wonderful Lapsang. I am devastated that I can no longer buy my favourite tea. Big mistake to replace it with this utter travesty of a tea. 1 star given as I am unable to give it zero..”
“As most of the other reviewers have written- this tea is absolutely vile. It's nothing like Lapsang Souchon (which I used to drink almost daily). Instead it has a weird, almost petrol-like aftertaste and no other flavour. Do not recommend it at all”
“I agree with most of the other reviews. I bought this tea thinking it WAS Lapsang Souchong (which I have bought from Twinings for years) because the colours on the box were the same, and I assumed that ‘Distinctively Smoky’ was merely a description of that tea. But it isn’t Lapsang at all, and tastes revolting, like smokey dishwater. I took one mouthful and threw the rest away. Then I read the box more closely and discovered what Twinings have done. The real Lapsang tea no longer appears on their website. WHY HAVE THEY DONE THIS?!?! Please bring back Lapsang, this substitute doesn’t even deserve the name of tea.”
“Nothing like the Lapsang Souchong it has been brought in to replace. Having complained, I was told that the change was due to supply chain issues. While I understand that these may be challenging times internationally, this is no reason to purely stop the old LS tea. Please bring back the original!”
